  • the sync went outside

  • Vinnie is so high.

  • @FormerlyMrBean667 Except Zappa forbade his band members from doing drugs on tour to avoid the impact it may have on their performance and to avoid legal entanglements. Frank didn't like drugs much.

  • @FormerlyMrBean667 false. Frank wouldn't let the musicians he toured with do drugs

  • There's a YTuber named aussiedrumnerd who does an excellent job on this. Check it out!

  • @hotdrumchick Yes the aussie got it down pretty good!

  • fuck yea greasy

  • This is for all the woman out their who keep it greasy for her man!

  • Zappa's quote on the introduction of Vinnie , Scott , and Steve into the band , was that he was amazed to have 21 year-olds playing this stuff and that their commitment was stronger than any previous band members. I'm not a Chad fan during his stint but he too was very young. My favorite Bassist was Arthur Barrow. Chester was Zappa's best drummer with Bozzio a close second.

This particular song is about feel once you lock into the timing over the solo (which ,on the vinyl version is staggering)

  • Vinnie was high as fuck, that's how he kept that weird time.

  • @hotdrumchick no, he kept it because he's a pro.

  • @BurnDownTheCapital I know, sweet. Don't be so literal.

  • @hotdrumchick no, he kept it because he's a pro.

  • Colaiuta is an asshole. Every Zappa enthusiast knows that.

  • @mmowoa lol wtf was that!

  • @antibulletdodger101 Read the (real) Zappa book and you'll find the answer!

  • @mmowoa Im not a big fan of Zappa, I just like the song "keep it greasy". Can you please enlighten me? Im very interested in what has been said. If you dont want to post it here please feel free to send me a PM. I would very much like to hear, in a nutshell, what was said.

    Cheers! :)

  • @mmowoa ? what do you mean

  • @mmowoa

Yes, him and Jeff Berlin were back then at least.

During rehearsal for the 81 tour they decided to ask for a sallary raise others in the band needn't know about. Naturally they got quickly replaced with Chad Wackerman and Scott Thunes.

  • f ackin brilliant!!!!

  • Would be good for a KFC ad lol

  • @DyingSID666 omg frank zappa would kill if he heard you say that, you fucking stupid cunt!

  • @sweetchildonline Frank was never one to take things seriously, jerk.

  • @DyingSID666 he took his music seriously!

  • @sweetchildonline I think the only music he ever wrote that he took seriously was the Yellow Shark, just because something isn't serious doesn't mean it cant be brilliant. Frank is probably the greatest joker in the history of rock music, jerk.

  • @DyingSID666 Its no surprise that "Dr Stranglove", director Stanley Kubrick least serious film is quite possibly his best, jerk.

  • @DyingSID666

    ... or cancer awareness

  • fucking genius XD

  • nnero0, I believe this version is all in 4/4...

  • he's right...listen to joe's garage...

  • Cheers for this,,,this song always brings a smile to my face,,,lol

  • 19/16 ... DAMN!

  • yeh man...but studio version only (verse 1 and outro)...i think it's 21/16 on verse 2 in the studio version.

  • @CH3MIS7RY I think you're right. 21/16 was a popular audition time signature.

  • never heard this 1 b4.

  • vinnies a machine on this

  • @boogster123321 true..then again, when ISNT he?

  • My IDOL.......

  • Why is the Sound not Syncron with the movie False Pull Down????????????

  • Oh no... here comes that screamin sow-end...

  • anal sex

  • does this song talk about masturbation?? because ... i wouldn't be surprised ... its Zappa lol

  • i think that it's about sex in general "any kind of lube will due" lol

  • no wonder Vinnie Colaiuta has a very wild musical imagination. its because of Zappa! yeah!!!

  • Impeccable audio/video synch!

  • LOL

  • Frank greased this song down and jammed it ALL THE WAY up the FCC's ass...

  • i love the end where the guy says "ahhhhh grease it doooownnn"

  • This is from German TV, can't believe this.

  • This song is counted in 19/16? thats crazy zappa's a musical genious thank god for zappa

  • On the CD, the drum part on the first verse is 19/16 whilst the rest of the band's playing in 4. Plus the jam at the end is flat out 19 all the way. Unbelievable playing.

  • Incorrect! All players including the vocals are in 19 over 16 on the album in the section you're pointing out. Listen carefully.

  • Rajhoul-the time code appears off-still Great!

  • Vinnie on yellow gretsch kit!! Fantastic - he is kliing !

  • ahahah vinnie da giovane giovane nn l'avevo mai visto, auhauahu grande

  • Possibly they didn't do it live because Frank always realized that sometimes he asked things of his musicians that they physically could not play.

  • è Vinnie quel batterista????!?!?!?

  • yep

  • YCDOSA vol 3 has a live version with the mental time sigs, I haven't found any footage yet so it's just audio.

  • Is that Ed Mann singing at the end? When Frank has the camera man turn that way?

  • Nice, thanx!

  • great video.... thanx dude!

  • guess they didn't feel like doing the section in 19/16 on this one...

  • so that's the time signature?!!!! I never could work it out.

  • but at the end of the tune on the album it goes to 21/16

  • it switches between 19 and 21

  • The end goes, 7, 5, and 7 to make 19. Check the bass line.

  • yea i know its 19/16 and switches to 21/16 as well

  • Yeah I was gonna say...I really wanted to hear them pull out those monster time sigs live.

I'm sure he has at other gigs. I can't imagine such complexity coming easily for ANYONE though...

  • To andrewtheman19: I would think that Ivo Papasov (a truly fearsome single-reed player) and his bunch could handle this one with aplomb. Quite capable of rendering jazz-rock, his band was heard to zip through 53/16 in a section of "Kopanitsa", before settling into 5/8, and then fast 11, off of Orpheus Ascending.

  • @tanner9862

Ivo's so fliud and his group, just tight, tight, tight. You are so right.

  • I always wondered why I haven't seen any live versions of this w/ the crazy time signature. It grooves well, but isn't quite as unique a song. Vinnie Coliuta (sp?) is an animal on Joe's Garage, some of the best drumming ever.

  • Buenísimo video...gracias por subirlo
