  • mambo not mozambique

  • it is not mozambique..

  • This is mambo. Not mozambique.

  • is half of that ride cymbal missing??

  • Good lesson, but tune those freakin' toms. I tuned my groove percussion drumset and it sounds better than that.

  • your thinking about it too much, it should just be muscle memory if your gonna put it on youtube ... anyway very decent

  • your floor tom is higher pitched than your rack tom lol!

  • Wow! I'm amazed by the ignorance of some of are drumming bro's. That is a traditional Mozambique, the one Gadd plays is a more modern interpretation. Very good job beniben2

  • Man, Tune your Drum!!

    and your miking sux..

  • This is definitely not a cascara bell pattern. A cascara goes like this:

    R R RR RR RR R RR.

    Or: 1 2 3 and and 1 2 and and and 1

Then the mozambique pattern is this:

    R R RR R RR RR RR

    Or: 1 2 3 and and and 2 3 and and 1

Also, if you're playing a mambo you can play a cascara bell pattern but there's also a "mambo" bell pattern that goes like this:

    R R RRRR RRRR RRR

    Or: 1 2 3and4and and2and3 4and1

Hope this helps, happy drumming :D

  • wrong pattern dude

    flam, R L RRL R L RR L RR L R

    this is it

  • ok on one level I like the instructional aspect of the video. Playing a rythm slowly repeatedly. Thank you for that.

But MAN ...thats the nastiest tuning job I've ever heard.

  • I don't mind the sound of the toms at all. In fact I think your whole kit sounds really sweet. Maybe I should dump the Zildjians and go Paiste...

  • awesome... but about those toms

  • they are jazz toms, they are suposed to sound like that

  • I really can't tell if you're trying to be funny or not...so forgive me if you feel I'm being a smart ass here...

But there's no such thing as a Jazz Tom...the small tom is too muffled and the floor tom is too open...Even in the early jazz days when they had one calf skin head on each drum...the drums were tuned as low and open as possible...

These are probably just not tuned well cause they're new / very old heads!

  • i just dont know the proper terms and names of stuff in english, but i get what you mean. and hey, im not a music nerd, i just rly like to enjoy it.

  • @tbwannab

LOL!!!!! (you took the words right out of my mouth)... but what do you mean, the tuning or the positioning .... or maybe both ?

  • @snaedwiev haha both... also... check out his bass drum beater, it's hitting the head on a HUGE angle haha

  • @tbwannab Jazz toms, they supposed to sound like that.

  • Woah, you have have a ride cymbal...

  • KalashnikoV247, you mean cascara ride pattern???

  • suena como un dolor de huevos1

  • this is The Same speed i practice at and i am gradually getting better!! Awesome job!

  • it's kinda fancy for a tutorial, but it's nice!

  • ese tipo no sab nada.

  • this is the kinda area where drums just by themselves really become music

  • I learned the ride cymbal rhythm before, I can't remember when but it definitely isn't mozambique, though I know it's very close to it, even my teacher told me so.

The toms sound awesome by the way, better than mine. =)

  • It's sounds like a cascada ride pattern to me, which would be used in a mambo drum pattern.

  • That's such a nice sound!

It kinda feels like a beat that you could just slip into and be mesmerized by :P

    The tuning is fantastic

  • doesn't matter how drums are tuned. tuning is easy shit. this guy can make his limbs hit when they are suppose to hit. that's what is important, and he can do that, so all ya'll fuck off.

  • well this IS mozambique, thats jazz tuning, it doesnt sound mozambique like on other videos because it is not being played on a cowbell with the correct open and closed sections. for gods sake people this is a fucking tutorial, be gratefull for it

  • Yeah, for real, if any of you idiots who were critizing his tom sounds knew how to play the drums, you would know they're tuned for jazz.

  • thats jazz tuning

  • what kind of floor tom is that? came with the kit? Nice vids

  • what ride cymbal is that? sounds like a nice jazz one

  • Your toms soud a really choked dude... and... hmmm... I don't think that's a mozambique groove... check out Tommy Igoe's lesson on Mozambique, Clearly different from what you're doing...

  • IT ISN´T MOZAMBIQUE IT IS LATIN

  • Really proficient!

Are those Vic Firth - Steve Gadd Signature sticks?

    I use 'em too ^^

  • It's standard carbon stick from CARBOSTICK.

I preferred to use them for the video because the sticks' movements are more readable!

  • i generally play it the same way but with the upbeat high hat as opposed to the downbeat, obviously haha

  • nice somone atctualy done some realy well put together beat nice use of toms
