Love this! Not so sure about the Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciations, but I was simply taught differently. From a musical standpoint, her interpretation of this is amazing! Love the clarity of her voice, not overdone at all, and the prayerful tone is spot on. Good balance with the choir, too. Probaby one of the best-- if not THE best-- interpretations of this work that I have heard. Brava!
@kf9as It's the German pronunciation of the Latin, which is why it sounds a little different from the Church Latin. Notably, the "qu" combination is pronounced with a "v" sound so that quoniam, for instance, sounds like "kvoniam".
Absolutely right. I adore Barbara Bonney. I first discovered her gorgeous voice with a recording of Mozart lieder. Her recording of the Norwegian lieder of Grieg et. al. is spectacular. One of the finest Mozart and lieder interpreters of her generation, she is a brilliant musician. There is no pretension or hint of vulgarity in her voice. Sumptuous.
Hi Bridgette...I agree with you. You will never be disappointed by the stellar interpretations of Ms. Bonney. I invite you to view other video with Ms. Bonney on my channel. Thank you.
Wonderful, thank you for sharing with us! My father sent it to me since he heard it being sung at a local church at Vespers, and listening to it now just gave me a few moments of pure bliss during a workday halfway round the world in Beijing.
These are some of the most spectacular pictures, combined with the heavenly voice of Barbara Bonney -- I'm truly praising God for His goodness and the infinite beauty of His creation. Thank you for sharing this!
Oh! Oh! Thank you so very much for this. This came, for me, at the exact perfect moment. As a joyous opera buffoon for only a decade or so, I cannot believe I have not encountered this magnificent soprano til right now! How happy I am that you have shared this heavenly voice and music with us. I feel so very peaceful and happy...and a tear or two in the eye is always a nice thing, too. Again, thank you!
@acatalano2641 I completely agree. So nice to meet you. I think I subscribed to your channel. I look forward to more of your sublime good taste! :) :) :)
Mozart, as suggested in the now legendary film Amadeus, seems to have had a line to the Supreme Being (God or whatever you want to call it). At least this music is divine as is the very empathetic performance of Barbara Bonney. Such a find - absolute beautty.
@tomfroekjaer Oh, My Thomas! As with so many blessings, this one came at exactly the right moment, in the right mood and...best of all...from you. Thank you, Mio Caro Amico....per sempre e sempre......
Mozart, always one of my passions, and no work of his exceeds the Laudete. Bonney I discovered a mere 2 years ago and quickly fell in love with, what a singer &/or angel is supposed to sing like--and be like. Whether or not there is a God, and whatever He may be, He exists for me while I hear this. I cannot congratulate you sufficiently on this brilliant accompanying slide show, and thank you so much for putting this together! Apparently there are still kindred souls out there.....
My friend. There is a God. He created Mozart, you and me, this beautiful universe and all that is good in the world. Praise the Lord, all nations; Praise Him, all people. For He has bestowed His mercy upon us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and forever, and for generations of generations. Amen.
Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Quando morì mia madre volli questo brano per il suo funerale. Ora ogni volta che lo ascolto mi ricordo di lei. Quam suscipiat Dominus in gremium suum
Very lovely performance, and nice sentiment in the images, some very pretty natural scenes that amplify the reverence in Mozart's music. However you wouldn't want to be in that beam shown in the next to last image showing it coming from the jet of M87 in the Virgo Cluster. That is a high energy beam coming from its super massive black hole. It that was pointed at us, we would be fried in a minute! The Latin with translation was nice, thanks.
I have the CD in which Barbara Bonney is singing this sublime piece of music and always derive the greatest pleasure from hearing it. What a great and glorious gift is a truly beautiful voice. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
Barbara Bonney is the soprano I enjoy most of all. Combined with another favourite " Laudate Dominum " what a combination. An excellent recording which really is an exultation of music and the Almighty. Thank you to all concerned.
