@CrystalzVideos I've used it for recording rappers, it works just fine. As he mentioned you'll definitely want a pop filter (same goes for any mic when recording vocals)
quick question. how do you hook it up as a usb? i accidently bought this mic instead of the usb but i bought it from amazon and i dont have time to send it back. would i need a mixer? please answer, many thanks!
i know with this one you can't connect it straight to your computer or something like that... but i forget what you have to buy... to go through it. into the computer program is it midi controller?
thanks for the video but i have a question i am wondering of what to choose audio technica at2020 or akg perception 220 for recording vocals (pop music)
@DTinVienna LOL but those are 2 different mics: One its a $99 mic not meant for professional purposes and the other one is a $200 Mic meant for professional purposes. It's like watching a PC with a PIV and aying "Hey for a faster PC, have a look at the review of my i7 processor on my gaming rig" - HM7
does anyone no how to do this please, if your using the mic for recording and at the same time video taping it how do u switch the audio from the mic which u recording with the audio from ur video camera?
@brynzech I have no experience with the B-1, but it looks comparable. Head down to a local music shop and give both of them a go. Whichever sounds best to your ears is the one you should take. :)
@tJ0N3S I record the audio in .wav files set at a 48khz, the same frequency the video camera would record the sound at. What you didn't see in the video is the "clap track" that I made just before the image comes up. What the "clap track" does is provides a visual cue that I then match with the sound wave from the microphone recording, and the audio from the camera. I then remove the camera audio and replace it with the mic audio.
Hey just seen your vid on a couple mic reviews and i have a question about mics.. I'm a rapper and it's really hard to find me a consistent studio so now im going to buy a microphone.. I'm on a low budget so 100 bucks for a mic would be more my style. and i was thinking what is the best mic around my price that'll i'll be happy with? I was looking at some with the usb but i don't have a hi tech laptop so i feel like a usb mic wouldn't be best! Any suggestions???
@SrCirlot With the XLR version that I used in this review, I experienced zero latency. I use a PreSonus Inspire 1394 Firewire soundcard with a 4->8 pin firewire cable. I can not speak to the USB version as Audio Technica hasn't sent me one to review. <-That's a shameless cry for test gear, I'm in no way affiliated with Audio Technica. But AT, if you're reading this...I'm wide open to free gear! =)
Sounds beautiful!!! This really sounds like I'm listening to a professional radio station or something! (Might I also say you do have a great voice for radio as well!) Am I to assume this is not the USB version? I'm looking at getting this mic for home studio work, but I don't want the USB one.
@xRapiiiD IMHO, Blue falls really short with the snowball. I absolutely <3 Blue mics, but both the snowball and yeti had me wishing for more. Tbh, the mic you're using with your vids sounds nice and tight. Is it a headset mic? A studio quality mic for less than a $100 - now that's a challenge. Let's see what I can't come up with. Details to follow...
That is what a mic review should be like. Not showing the mic around and talking about its design. Using it, using it! Awesome review. Thank you, and nice tip with the pop filter ;D
@DTinVienna i rap and im just wondering whats the best USB microphone between 100$ -300$, or should i just get a audio technica AT2020? PLEASE RESPOND
@DTinVienna Excuse me I thought on buying an audio interface -for the phantom power- but actually i was thinking seriously about not, since I wanna use it for high pitches in classical singing technique. I read specificatiosn and what I get, this will not work at all i think.
What would be your recommendation? I have not even found an audio interface with usb port, just XRL (XLR?).
@Johnfrooshlover Actually...none at all. I believe what you're hearing is the internal mechanism that limits the volume when a loud(er) sound source is suddenly injected.
you can get this mic at amazon for about 92$ also the speakers in the background that he has are very nice, i have a pair of BX5a and they are awesome. "Santa" dropped them down my chimney so i have no idea how much they cost. the sound is great and i love to listen to pink floyd on them. again back to the mic. i don't own it yet but i hope that santa will drop this too. a good pop filter at amazon is about 16$. hope this helped
everything is so quiet, all we can hear is your voice, no white noise. did you have to do anything to the audio or is it naturally that quiet? im asking because i was going to purchase this mic to record vocals in a home studio, would you recommend this for that? if not then what would you reccomend?
@DjPeaceDestroyer You need a standard XLR to XLR if your using a mixer. If not and you still want the XLR version for use elsewhere you can get a plug in A/D Converter that allows for USB connectivity. Shure make a great one complete with phantom power which is needed to run a condersor
@DTinVienna That's awesome. Do you think the Yeti would fit inside the Samson SP01 spider mount? I'm also looking at the On Stage Stands 7701B Tripod Boom which doesn't come with a threaded adapter (IDK) but sells for a good price.
@driftapex Not certain about the Samson mount, but have a check at Sweetwater for shockmounts. You should be able to get something there that will work.
Looking at the boom stand, it does have a thread at the end of the boom, so you should be all set. :)
@DTinVienna I've been looking at the AT2020's which is now around $100 or the Blue Yeti's which are $102. The Blue Yeti is humongous has many audio patterns while the AT2020's have only the cardioid pattern. I was wondering which one you think would sound better for podcasting, live broadcasts, and so on or if there's a better microphone in around $100? Do you need a tall desktop stand for these types of microphones?
@driftapex Since I've never heard/evaluated a Yeti, I can't really make an informed call. If podcasts and live broadcasts are your thing, you'd only really ever been looking for a cardioid pattern. The Yeti seems/looks extremely versatile, has a great name behind it, and will probably last you for a good long while.
Re: the stand, I actually now use an arm clamp stand (check the Rode NT-1A video).
@DTinVienna I guess I can't go wrong with the Yeti. I wasn't able to make out what kind of stand you were using in the Rode NT-1A video - which sounded mind-blowing and it was cool that it came with the pop filter and the shock mount. I'm not sure if most microphone stands like yours would fit the Yeti's and I wasn't able to find a shock mount for it.
@driftapex I use a Sinn7 1v.2 (can't insert link) stand. And yes, the Rode is the best sounding mic in my collection.
re: a shock mount for the yeti - you might not find one specifically made for it, however, the Yeti has a standard threaded mic mount, meaning a generic spider mount should work. Also, don't forget about a pop filter - I recommend an Avantone Pro Shield.
@iw2mln Funny you mention the NT-1A, as I didn't get a chance to test that one out, but a buddy of mine just picked one up. Perhaps I can wrestle it out of his hands for a test video here. Personally, I went with the P220, as it includes the bass roll-off and -20 db preattenuation pad, features not normally found on a mic in this price range. I also found the AKG to have a bit more 'sparkle' in the top end.
@DTinVienna Thank you DT, please keep me aware when the video will be posted ... and what will be your opinion comparing the two mics ...
That's true about the attenuator and the high pass filter of the P220 ..; but I'm really interested to a "fflat comparison" between the two sounds, without any alterations and in "speaking" or instrumental conditions, in which the second one is not at 140dB SPL of course, but acoustical as Guitar or VIolin/Flutes recordings' purposes ...
What's your pop filter attached to? I couldn't get mine to attach to the AT2020 mini tripod.

BaysikzDubstep 2 months ago
@BaysikzDubstep Bro you'd need a mixer that features phantom power (48v) an XLR cable from mic to mixer and a usb from mixer to pc.
Or you can use a tube amp for a warmer sound.
There's the Blue Icicle and other products for conversion.
