  • Seems to work but the game will be a lot slower and choppier, at least on my computer.

  • My game crashes on startup with the error "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

Any Idea what's causing that? I run the game on windows vista 32 bit and when I used to run it before, I made sure to make it use only one core, the problem (seems) to be one day it just decided to stop fucking working for no reason... no APPARENT reason, anyway. And of course windows is too fucking stupid to find the reason.

  • Sometimes my game really crashes. I tried to lower my settings and it still crashes. I don't know if this tutorial will help me fix this crash problem.

  • LOL at the music!!!

  • in the settings, change from "hardware" to "software" fixed this for me!.

  • Yo can do this automatically: right click on the shortcut, and type, in target, this:

    "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1

You just need to add the -CPUCount:1 after the .exe route (with no " ").

  • they say the operation could not be completed access is denied

  • Vista is a VERY POOR PLATFORM. I strongly recomend that you upgrade to Windows 7 (if you can afford it).

  • Mine doesn't install right, it gets to about 6% and it says: A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'E:/Radio/Stations/Mayor/Music/SC4m09.mp3' from the media. Can someone help me? It won't let me install the game until I fix that.

  • Dude, Thanks! It doesn''t crash anymore :)

  • hi guys, copy this codes to the target field of the shortcut.

    C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "SimCity 4" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe"

  • When i click on affinity it says "The operation could not be completed." "Access is denied." help please ??

  • Gracias me sirvio de mucho =P

  • thanks

  • Every time i go to play it it says to insert the disk even though it is inserted... anyone know what i should do?

  • my simcity 4 always crashes next time i've downloaded mods and try to use them

but after a while it runs fine

    btw i'm using windows 7

  • @Tuppoo94 ..I found out that some mods may be the cause of crashes, sometimes. Some may cause the whole computer to crash/reset, some may only reset the game, after which you are suddenly looking at your desk top..... Therefor, install one mod at a time. Play the game. If you have problems, remove that mod. If not, then install the next mod. As far as I know, no mod has ever damaged a computer, so don't fear that. A bad mod only causes some annoyance, nothing more. Simply remove such mods.

  • @telescopereplicator I thought so, but I don't really care about the game crashing.

After some crashes, it starts going normally.

This happened with every mod that I've downloaded, including the very popular NAM, NWM and RHW.

  • mine just wont run, it says to put in the game disks, wtf does it mean

  • @RGCShyTiminator It's a form of protection. The game won't run unless you insert an official CD. Both the original game as well as Rush Hour need a disk in the player for the game to work. If you have an illegal version you will have great difficulty to start up the game. If it'll work at all....??!!

  • @RGCShyTiminator Download the service pack 2 update, do what this guy says, and after playing 3 times without incident I'm right back where I started, so I dont know WTF TO TELL YOU!!!!!!!! (anger)

  • Comment removed

  • @RGCShyTiminator well im not trying to be rude...but its kinda obviouse what put in game disk means...it means put in the simcity4 game disk.....-_-

  • I have a duel core proccer and 4Gb of RAM but when doing UDI I find Sim City 4 is still rather jump like my old computer. I have Windows 7 however, does this affect me? i'm wondering if this affect me to because it is prevent me from posting decent quality Sim City videos like I said I wanted to in my commonet on your other video.

  • Cheers mate, I'll give it a go.

  • ea should've done something about the problem instead of sittin on there fat arse count their cash

  • @SlipperyPedo ....that would have been impossible since Vista did not exist yet. And dual core processors were rare or maybe still in development when SimCity 4 was created.

So, there is no-one to blame.

  • @telescopereplicator

ea still exist today and could easily release a patch for this.

  • @Mastermind12358 ea didnt make simcity maxis did and ea bought out maxis..ea dosent make any games they just kinda "own" them in a sens therefore theres nothing ea will do about it beacuse it would cost more than its worth beacuse the game is so old and the fact that not many people like or even no about the game...

  • @telescopereplicator - I played this on Windows 7 Ultimate and it still crashes. I don't know if this is also the tactic. Actually it crashes when I played for an hour.

  • @Nevermore2790 ....Yes, I am aware of the problem. Sim City 4 simply has issues with operating systems younger than Windows XP.

As long as a decent solution is not offered by a software expert, Windows XP SE is still the best platform for this game.

If a PC has two or more processors, use only one and switch off all others. And make sure the motherboard and video card has plenty of memory.

  • how bout ..CPU0, CPU1, CPU2, CPU3?

    i got that

  • @dahalodon

Disable all but one. You have a quad core. Nice. =D

  • @DragonMaster1230 oh ok thx

  • worked on Phenom! thanks!

  • Seriously? It's just defaulting to dual processor affinity?

    Fucking hell that's simple.

  • Sorry but this crash happens on XP too on dual core my processor is Pentium Dual Core T2370

  • Thanks =) Works in Windows 7 as well ^^

  • Just a quick correction. Disabling one of the processor cores will not affect the other processes running on the system. It will not disable one core until you quit, it will prevent *only* SimCity from using the core you disabled.

All other processes can continue to use both cores.

  • Thanks a ton for posting this!! I've competed your instructions every time I've played and it helped a LOT! It didn't eliminate the problems 100%, but I think 95% would be a fair guess.

  • Will This work on an amd tri core vista 6gb 32Bit

  • i have XP pro single core.

my processor is an AMD athlon 64 3000+

  • Does that happens if you're running the game on a XP Pro installation partition? I hope I do not regret getting my newest Notebook with Vista (Home) Installed.

  • I think not. XP-pro is very stable. If you have a dual core processor and if you run the game on XP-pro with one processor switched off, there should be no problems. However, SC4 and Microsoft are not best friends, so I have heard.............

  • Hey... thanks for your answer. I am getting a 18" with Dual proc and Up to 2GB video Notebook... but the shit comes with Windows Vista Home Ed. I am seriously thinking upgrade it to Ultimate, but I'll certainly install XP Professional, as I hear Windows Vista sucks to bone. heheh

    Thanks again

  • mine is crashes to desk top when bulding becomes more highly and when its turns to high bulding , can u tell what should i do plz cuz this is confusing me i cant make a full city tell now ..

  • ok, i'll try putting sim city 4 on my laptop and if it crashes i'll use this method.

  • Super super easy to get it to do this automatically:

First, create a shortcut on your desktop to Simcity 4. Then, right click on it, go to priorities.

In the shortcut tab, type this in for target:

    "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "Simcity 4" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe"

    Simple as that!

  • mine wont even start duel core on vista 2ghz x 2 i get a picture of a bridge and i wont load

  • An easier solution.

Left Ctrl + Left Shift + Esc in Vista.

Open Simcity, then Alt + Tab to task manager and set the affinity.

  • Alright Ive Ordered This For Vista. It Will Work Properly Ive Done 1 Week Research

On Simcity 4 Vista Looking Through

    Wikipedia,Yahoo All Sorts Of Things

On The First Simcity Deluxe Box...Its Just A Box On The New One It A Bigger Box

And At The Bottom Its Got Water And The Dock And Has To Be 32Bit This Arravies Tommorow Wendensday. I'll Try And Tell You Guys The Solution When It Works

  • a BIG THANK YOU for you dude!

  • thank you thank you it work

  • This works with XP too, just enter task manager, click the Processes tab and right click on the Sim City 4 process. Go to Affinity and disable the redundant CPU(s) as normal.

  • woooooooooooooooooo thanks you solved my problem!!! it works so fine!!! the only problem is that I'm too lazy to do that.

I'll try to find some soft or some line you add at the executable properties.

  • i know someone prob already posted this but i couldnt find it so here it is

when i go to turn off cpu i have #0,#1,#2 and #3 so sholud i turn off just one or 3 or what.please help?

  • I looks like you have a quad processor PC. So first switch off number 3. If the game keeps freezing or if you still return to your desktop after 2 minutes of playtime, switch off 1 or 2 more processors. Always leave 1 on, or the game won't have a processor to play with... As soon as you quit the game, all 4 processors will be functional again, immediately.

  • are you sure the processer will be re-activated when you have finished playing simcity ?

  • Yes, I'm sure. Don't worry. These settings will ONLY affect the game. As soon as you stop the game you will have to reset it again if you want to start playing the game again. The rest of the computer will still use both processors while the game is running. Actually, the method shown in the video tells the game to use just 1 processor. It's not the PC that makes only 1 processor available for the game. It's a very safe way to play the game. It will freeze the game a lot less often.

  • i have the same problem on a amd athlon x2, 2 gb ram but i just uninstall the game

can be it a problem of memory ram to???????

  • 2 Gb of RAM minimum is recommended when using Vista. A separate video card with a lot of onboard memory is recommended too. This solution shown here is for tackling problems with dual core processors. In my case, I would need a motherboard with extra memory, separate video card with extra memory and a single, very fast processor.

SC4 was made to run on 16 and 32 bit processors. With a dual core it sometimes runs on 64 bit which "confuses" the game and makes it hang up. Solution: shut one down.

  • I don't remember haveing any problem with the game on vista amd64x2

  • I made a typo....

It should read: This trick ONLY works on Vista and a dual core processor.

Forgot to change it. Sorry ! ;-)
