I bought these books for really cheap a while back and I read them so fast because they were really great and the mythology was awesome, however I was extremely disappointed with the movie, Uma Thurman was probably the best part, but I really hope they try the second one maybe with an all new cast, and being more true to the series, I mean the guy who played Percy was good, and the guy who played Grover was good for some comic relief. Hopefully the second will be better - if the make it.
The book series was sensational, the movie, fell horribly short. Harsh alteration lost the thread that kept the entire series together. E.g. a Helmet (from Hades) and Lightning Bolt (from Zeus) was stolen. Luke did play a part, but it was Ares; God of war, who carried out the deed and battled Percy.
Each quest is interlinked and holds a significant detailed meaning, they should have tried to keep the essence of the story, and remembered it’s just as much an emotional ride as a visual one.

From a reader's point of view the movie was terrible, but from a movie viewer's point of view (someone who hasn't read the book) its a great movie. Like Monkey2700 said, they changed it a bunch and if they decide to make a number 2 the story is gonna get further and further from the book.

I actually really really loved it! Hahah at first I was like "Oh god this sucks I want to leave." But then as the movie kept going are started to really like it. Plus Logan Lerman is really hot.. hahaha
Honestly, there are good things and bad things about it - but I really liked how much ACTUAL mythology they used. And they were fairly dead-on if you accout for modernization. The whole casino thing was a bit wierd, and it certainly isn't what I think of when someone mentions Lotus Eaters... but I liked that they knew a bit of what they were dealing with.
The fact that you take a lift from the empire state building to go to Olympus is just disgusting. If you're going to make a "greek mythology" theme movie, at least take the basic facts straight, like 300.

2) acting is pathetic, and actors do not match the original characters

They totally rushed this movie and they didnt even pay attention to the little things like annabeth calling him seaweed brain or the pen was supposed to be a caped pen but they let important stuff out like WHERE THE HELL was CLARE she was one of the main points that pointed out he was he son of poseidon and the symbol that signified it didnt pop up over his head. The sword fight with luke was very important and hades didnt appear in the camp fire there were bloodhounds that attacked. AND MORE

its suck why because it barely matches the movie they dont even have characteris in the movie like clariese or ares and they dont even go to the parthanon in the book the go to a waterpark HOW CAN THEY GET THAT MESSED UP?!?! if u saw the movie without reading the book you may like it,but if you read the book and saw the movie you will hate it. i give this movie a BIG thumbs down.

I read the series and i loved it.
I watched the movie and i loved it too.
Disappointing a bit of course because it was really different from the book.
But hey, i still liked it. (especially because Logan Lerman is so cute haha)
But in my opinion, to those who watched the movie but haven't read the series (or at least the first book- The Lightning Thief) READ THE SERIES :) it's a lot better.
But if you're not interested, oh well =)

Honestly, there are good things and bad things about it - but I really liked how much ACTUAL mythology they used. And they were fairly dead-on if you accout for modernization. The whole casino thing was a bit wierd, and it certainly isn't what I think of when someone mentions Lotus Eaters... but I liked that they knew a bit of what they were dealing with.
