I literally remember everything about this match. I was a senior in high school and got back during the third set and was like "WTF Roger? This is your one f-ing chance to win the French Open and you are blowing it?!" Then I spent the next two hours laying on the floor barely breathing, and desperately praying for an all-time Roger comeback. When del Potro broke back in the 5th set I vividly remember pounding my hand in to the floor. So happy he made it past Haas in 4th round and delPo in semis.
i remember where i was this day. friday evening, i was meant to be going to do the kids weekdly coaching session but prayed for rain and i got it, thunder and lightening and everything, boy was i glad. thanks del po for giving us at least one epic before your injury, gives me something to watch in the mean time!
@Rafathaman94 i'm not sure why you left a comment on my channel but i'm unable to leave one back on yours? Ever heard of freedom of speech? so lame lol...
You don't make a lot of sense saying delpo would've won montreal if not for the heat. The heat is part of the game, if he can't handle that then he didn't deserve to win it. I respect how he's got back to the top 40 so fast but that's obvious at his level.
btw madrid result was awesome. won nearly 100 with a small bet on nole. Knew he'd win
@vernjackie why are you even a fan of murray... he's a joke. He's been in 3 finals... L L and L. no surprise. he cannot handle pressure and at some point you cant blame him because all of the U.K. relies on him... but Juan Martin Del Potro is just a better tennis player. He will become a higher rank than Murray. He has proven he can win a Grand Slam, and he has that elite respect. Murray isn't there yet.. sorry.
@BrownCurry37 better tennis player because he won 1 slam? that is not a valid argument. Murray made 3 finals yes, which is in a way much more consistent than delpo. This year he lost to djokovic, and who hasn't?? Let's see if delpo can do any better against him. Add that to the fact delpo can't even win a masters 1000 tournament plus the 5-1 head to head in favour of murray?? you need to get your head checked if you think delpo is a better player...
@vernjackie it is not a valid argument to say that someone is better because they have won a grand slam? more consistant? del potro has been injured.. he hasnt played real since that slam. and based on skill. there is no need to bring up all of these so-called "accomplishments" of murray because no one has respect for him as opposed to del potro. Even the other players have said that del potro is going to be one of the best on tour.. no one says this about murray. We'll see in 2011 who is better
@you murray haters are quite pathetic tbh. How about you try being top 4 in the world at something? and if people called you a joke for it, would you care? think about that
@vernjackie im not a hater of murray. im clearly just stating that del Potro is a better player than Murray. And no I dont want to get to be number four in the world, and if I was that high just because i play a lot of tournaments and never one anything, i would understand how people would say i am a joke.
@BrownCurry37 well, thank you for confirming your ignorance. murray has actually played less tournaments than del potro, nadal, federer and soderling. Where do you find your stats? And another thing,,,, Learn to spell too. I'm obviously dealing with a kid here.
@vernjackie first of all, murray has played more tournaments than Del Potro where are your stats coming from? And yeah you are dealing with a kid.. a kid who is completely proving you wrong in this argument. Let me ask you this question.. Why hasn't Andy Murray won a Grand Slam yet? In your theory, if he is better than Del Potro, why has he lost to Federer twice in the Finals and Del Potro won on his only try.
@BrownCurry37 no if you just look over to the official atp rankings you'll see that murray has played 20 tourneys this year. thats 5 less than soderling, and 2 less than del potro. its a fact... lol.... aside from that misinformation you have, i agree that del potro is back in form. he played great today against nadal and i'm happy to see him back. However you need to stop bashing murray and accept his talent before I can show you any further respect.
@Rafathaman94 you should back off with your plain silly murray bashing comments too. You slander murray all over youtube and its really quite pathetic. Delpo won a slam yes, but he has never won a single masters 1000 title, so you can't say he didn't fluke that us open. On the other hand Murray has 6 masters and 3 slam finals. show some respect little boy
@Rafathaman94 Not really the case. He got a slam but it could very well be declared a fluke. He's off again with yet another injury hence why his wheelchair career could be fast approaching. how many injuries can one guy get? its pretty insane
@Rafathaman94 Na, Murray has a winning head to head on him, besides the computer doesn't lie man. delpo will most likely be in the wheelchair events soon. He might even make no 1 there....
jaishankar u sayin fed has gud sportmanship but nadal not.......do u know anything abt tennis or sportsmanship................federer sucks in terms of sportsmanship......when he loses in grand slams he won mind the opponent...best example is tis year's wimbledon 2010 in which he not even wishes berdych after losing to him......
because Berdych was nearly lying in the floor laughing showing no respect for a champion. I'd fucking smack him in the face for that if I was Federer. The Swiss at least showed him where his place is in Canada a month later.
this match... when the commentator said "a match that encapsulates everything you'll ever, ever need to know about roger federer," what with his comeback to win and all that, i almost felt like crying! i'm such a baby :3
I think this was an even greater victory than the Haas match, because in the Haas match, once Federer managed to pinch the third set, there was only going to be one winner, but del Potro would never go away.
@athull08 by him being so lanky i think sleeves would probably restrict him or just look crazy lol... he could prob get them specially made by nike tho.... the real answer is prob thats just his style
he would probably have to get his shirts made slim fit with tight sleeves otherwise they'd all be baggy; this would annoy him I'd think so he just goes sleeveless. gets to show off his massive muscles.
owned him? Delpo was that close to win it in 3 sets. I wanted Federer to win this macth and I'm happy he did, but if Delpo would't have made those 4 unforced errors on the 2nd set tiebreak he woudl have won the match for sure, Fed was the one owned 4/5 of the match.
@MrMasterMan1000 It's all about those important points isn't it :P You haven't won until you've won, and I'm sure you give credit as I do to Federer for sticking in there and keeping calm at those important moments. The Wimbledon 2009 final is another example, and only about 3 weeks after this! It's nice seeing Federer blast people of the court, but seeing him dig deep to pull through is ultimately more rewarding :)
The best part of the match -- Del Potro's sportsmanship!! Someone like Nadal wont even look at his opponent after losing the match!! Del Potro and federer are both wonderful people and have great
@Jaishankar100 what is it with all the indians? u guys virtually live in federers ass and insult nadal while u do that. how classy. Nadal has never been faulted for his lack of sportsmanship so go ahead n make it up why dont u? sure he takes his time on court sure u may not like the way he plays tennis but hes a class act as a sportsman and as a human and u know it. unless of course the shitty conditions u live in has rendered u incapable of acknowledging facts. either way... ur pathetic.
@a11ure dude i am as big a fan of nadal as that of Federer.. Both Fed and Nadal hate losing and ive seen it...even after losing such a thriller Del Potro had a great heart of talking in a nice manner to Fed..! Would Fed or nadal have done the same??
So just STFU and mind ur own fucking business before u make such stupid comments!!!
@Jaishankar100 OH SNAP youre a sharp one! And fyi i HAVE witnessed grace from fed and rafa even in defeat. Maybe u dont watch enough tennis? or u choose to see what u will? ive already come to the conclusion that youre a mega douche, hence the defensive "STFU!!' Maybe its cause of ppl like u that indians get abused and made fun of here in Australia and everywhere else really. I used to defend u guys but if the indians getting attacked were as retarded as u then im not all that fussed
One of the all-time great matches, in my opinion.

@JayMareo You might be right about sleeves resticting his arms. Then again, Karlovic wears sleeves, and he's five inches taller than del Potro.
Maybe he just wants to show muscles.
