  • my name is Rebecca. I just found this song, and i'm dating someone, 17 years old. just EXTREMELY ironic that i found this song!

  • I love the lyrics and Michael W. Smith definately can sing! However the music isn't what I thought it was going to sound like. Overall still a good song.

  • I always was disappointed in this song because the most important part of the song (oh Rebecca, don't confuse what love is with what some say love should be) is distorted sounding and difficult to understand. Without that part, you almost can't tell that the song advocates waiting. It makes you wonder if the distortion was on purpose.

  • Stuff I should have known before U2 in the 90's LOL never heard this song or the other Michael songs. whatever. some of them I heard, periodically....

  • love this ...old ...but awesome...needed something to let me know i still should BELIEVE:)

  • i loved this years ago...i'm 37, and totally lost , so glad i stubbled on good things :)

  • @shuanmorganseether Hey Jesus Loves You , isn't Mad at You , Hasn't Left You and Wants You to come back and hang out with him Again . Remember There is NOTHING that can seperate us from The love of God !!!! He will always remain Faithful even when we haven't been. I know because Im 49 and was right where your at when 37 !!!! Run To Him because He is Waiting !!!!

  • I love this song, in part, because musically it manages to capture a really infectious pop vibe, but infuses it with a piercing, melancholy tone. The melody, of course, comports perfectly with the song's rather bleak/cautionary lyrics.

  • @soluna17 my name is Rebecca...I think this is a gorgeous song, and I love that it has my name :}

  • 90s?

This was released for radio airplay in 1986.

  • I was in 7th grade when this song came out, and it helped remind me there are more important thing in life than the whole daating scene

    .

Another song I enjoyed during this period was "I Know"

    .

  • gotta love the real rebecca.

  • this song is so nice..i dont know about you guys, but oldies music is so so much better then music these days...LOVE THIS SONG!!!...my all time faver from micheal w. smith.

  • Great song thanks for posting! Do you think you could post an instrumental only version of this song? I've been looking everywhere for it.

  • I don't have an instrumental version sorry

  • Don't think there is an Instrumental Version of this song, but that would be great if they did.

  • years ago the christian music store here had instrumental versions of a lot of songs in cassette form so it's probably out there somewhere :)

  • Actually the one I want is the Kareoke version of this, so I can practice singing this, did I Speak Kareoke right?

  • yes- sorry that's what I meant- the store where I live had kareoke tapes :)

  • Hey dude if You want this song as a ringtone on Your Cellphone go to phone zoo, I made some ringtones of this song I think You can put them on Your phone as well.

  • @Nightshift10000

    Hahah actually it's spelled "Karaoke"

  • few seconds of pleasure can ruin your life!

  • i remember this song n_n

takes me to 1994, when i can barely understand the lyrics

  • Everytime I'm amazed first by the percussion in this song, specially at the very beginning. The percussion with the instrument that sounds like footsteps are awesome! But the song is excellent at all. In fact, it made me buy this album at 1996, when I was a teenager. I'm 32 now!

  • This album did have a lot of great music on it; this song was one of my favorites. This was MWS's third outing, I believe. He was going for musically edgier stuff, clearly. If you look at the photos on the album, etc. seems like the powers-that-be were trying to market Michael as some kind of a late-80's "Christian" teenybopper hearttrhob. Thankfully, that didn't happen and he has gone on to produce some of the most awesome Christian music ever made. Praise Jesus.

  • I remember back in the 80's he was on Pat Sajaks talk show. He was asked how it felt to be a "christain sex symbol". he kind of blushed and deflected the question.

  • how the heck was he supposed to answer? Pat was probably trying to put Smitty on the spot

  • @sjplwc Didn't happen? Apparently you've forgotten that MWS charted three songs on the Hot 100, and was widely played on Top40 radio (1991 to 94). He didn't see as much success as Amy Grant but he was still there

    .

  • @harleykman True, he enjoyed modest success as a mid-90's pop performer. (I don't consider three top 100 "hits" as superstar territory). But I'd hardly say he became a 'teenybopper hearththrob" - which was my point. BTW, I think it's a good thing his career didn't go that way. He continued to produce years of fine music and didn't lose his soul along the way, thank God. Sadly rare when it comes to many a Christian celebrity.

  • @sjplwc Landing three songs in the top 100 most-popular songs of 1991 and 1992 respectively is not a bad deal. To date only one other CCM artist has managed the same feat - Amy Grant. That's it

  • @modspell Sorry for being dense. I'm not getting your point.

  • Wow! That was so HOT! I not only Love that song and the beautiful sound and message it has, but the lyric follow through that was displayed as the song progressed. It was almost as if GOD itself was communicating the message!! Great Job!

  • I aim to please :)

  • That's so true, with both the absolutely Awesome Music and The none - condemning but thought provoking words and lyrics it is almost like God and a chorus of Angels are singing this to who ever this Rebecca is. Awesome Point.

  • haha....my name is Rebecca. =)

  • Maybe He's singing it for You.

  • Never in My life has there ever been a Song that I ever heard that I couldn't stop listening to, until I first heard Old Enough To Know.

  • I haven't heard this song for years, but I've always humed this in my head, now I finally found this song! It is a catchy song!

  • Question Though why do You it's from the 90's, Old Enough To Know was put out in 1986 on the Big Picture CD.

  • because that album was way ahead of it's time ;)

  • Good Point.

  • Good point
