This is one of your best songs Ed. I really value you as a songwriter, musician and inspiration to do what I do. Thank you for everything you do from such a great distance.
He reminds me of Joey from "Friends". Except, with more intelligence, talent, and... okay so it's probably just the teeth and the hair. ....shut up. :P
Could you add a "how to" to this song, like you did with crazy, it's a great song and i really cant find a good version anywhere, and i really want to learn this... its a great song
One of my favorite songs from BLAM. I really do identify with the words to this song -- about what it's like to live in our new world. I also really like Kevin's twinkly piano at the beginning, which Ed has managed to replicate on guitar excellently.
Your explanation helps me understand this better, thanks. I was watching TV when the events of that day unfolded and I still remember things very vividly. My view of the events from the other side of a TV can not compare to those who were right there, but impacted me none the less.
Hey Marie, I standing across the Hudson River, directly across from the towers when they fell. Living and working in NYC, the buildings were a constant presence. Its still hard to look at the skyline. Neighbors disappeared. Familiar faces I knew from walking my dog just went away. Very strange experience. Just the fact that you recognize that your experience of the day was different helps a lot. So many people just don't get it. Ed's song helps, too. Thanks for commenting. Pete
Pete, I thought similar to this: "Is this a news report or a trailer for a motion picture?" And I used to think this part was a nonsense thing they stuck in there, but now I realize he is referring to the changes made to make travel safe: "Think of all the lives saved by plastic knives...We will never lose if we remove our shoes" I still get chills when I see the towers in a movie - can't imagine what you feel having been so close yourself. Take Care, Marie
Thanks Ed, this one hits quite a personal note for me as it describes perfectly how I feel about the shooting that happened at my school (Dawson College) on Sept 13 2006. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels that way...
Wow this sounds so different from the album version.

I know a lot of people dislike BLAM for it being 'dreary' however, I have to respectfully disagree with these people.
From Wind it Up, to Angry People, To this.
This is deffinatly on a par with When I Fall.
Keep up the showing people that you can turn your hand to any kind of music :D
Maybe you should put a hardcore death metal track on the next album for the lulz.
XD

I like the philosphy of this song--one of the phrases I use a lot in my job is "Tell me what you want me to do, and I'll do it."
or if "I'm sorry, tell me what I can do to make it better." if it were only that easy, eh?

Cool Beans!
Barenaked Ladies are Clothed Men (and thank you for that first part) Is that Ironic, or is it a dichotomy.
Who cares.
