i'm actually a little bit familiar with the first sound bite. it's from an aston martin amr-1 group C car. Callaway built 5.3 liter v8, i actually have the piston from one sitting on my desk.
hard to believe that men drove these, with THOSE tires, and THAT suspension.... and survived. Listen to the carb cut out, what an experience in the headset.....!!!!
sorry for not knowing, but it is supercharged, I didn't know that. so the carb comment, well.... but it does sound like the fuel is cutting in and out... but still, sex for the ears...........................
@hpiracer416 the cut out is not fuel related, in those days they used magneto firing, and at 12.000 rpm it couldn't keep up at all times with the revs.
@TzeffNL because is the difference in the rpm, modern day formula 1 goes up to 18.500 or even more, the brm went to 12.500 but said that could climb to 14.000, for 1947 when the engine was built that is more than many rpm.
1:48 will bring tears to your eyes........and blood in your ears.

Nice stereo sound! But the sound doesn't pitch as high as the Formula One cars!

I wish modern engines were as insane as they were back then, 20+ liter 4 bangers, 30-something V engines. Madness.
