Looking forward to hosting another successful haunted house fundraiser. This year (2010), it will be on Sat (30th) and Sun (31st) @ 120 Boul Pompidou in La Prairie on the South Shore, just 10 min from the Champlain bridge. We have added a maze inside the 75 foot haunted tunnel, and have added many new animatronics and pneumatic props.
To those in Montreal, see you this weekend, it's going to be a great one !!! Once again generously sponsored by Old Dutch Humpty Dumpty and Allen Candy Cadbury.
That is a tough one. You see, for about $10-$15, i can put a frightening siren sound on up to 14 props. If I went the digital route, I would have to purchase and mod an expensive digital recorder, record sound for the prop, and then purchase a $150 powered monitor to be able to hear each prop, since it will compete with a 3000 watt PA audio system outdoors. So easier said than done, we can hear the sirens louder than the PA system.
more technology less scary haunted houses are scary becasue of scares if u dress someoen up and make them look like statues thats scary but this is crap
@mrstalkingcat147 - It's a home haunt. And professional haunted attractions don't dress up their actors and have them stand around like statues. Nothing you said made any sense whatsoever. Go play with your dolls.

Couldn't you find something more creative and definitely less annoying than using car alarms for 100% of your sound effects?

I find it funny that they use car alarms for some of the props. Now that scares a lot of people. xD
I mean a prank with a Microsoft Office 2010 case and a car alarm scared a lot of people. xDDDD

Keep in mind a couple of things:
Nothing like this in Montreal, but costumed people are more scary than props
This is a house not a pro company out to make money
This is a fundraiser for Children's Wish
Audience are kids and parents
Most people who pass thru are scared and even cry, but that is not the intention
This is a 5 figure investment out of my personal pocket with some sponsorship for the rest.
In the US, there are lots of pro stuff, in Canada, not much. Only maybe 3 houses like this.
