  • Needs to be longer, much longer.

  • I've always thought it was real. Her mother got better when she put the root in the milk and from where would she have gotten the chalk?

  • ...her mother's health change when she puts the mandragora under the bed, and of course the end when she returns to her kingdom. We can get all philosophical here and argue about, but if the guy that came up with the story said it was true, I think I'm gonna go with that x) Either way it's a beautiful film and soundtrack.

  • I'd love to think that it was actually all in her head because it gives the whole story a deeper, sadder and more tragic meaning- But the fact is Guillermo Del Toro did say himself in the director's commentary that it was his intention that the fantasy parts were real, he went on to point out the specific scenes that proved it; when she sets down the chalk on the table and the captain picks it up (she wouldn't have had any other way of getting chalk but from the faun)...

  • one of the most beautiful music pieces of modern times; and the movie is amazing as well... a fantasy of its on caliber

  • @BadLuck765 Its not about right or wrong...Its a matter of understanding that this is what another believes.

  • it is a really sad song, but good:)

  • some very analyitical comments here.... i just like the guy with eyes in his hands :D

  • best movie ever, and best soundtrack!!!! great BENICIO DEL TORO!!!!!

  • Take your fighting to messages, my gawd. Your bickering dilutes the respect of the song.

  • @BadLuck765 That which is objective cannot by itself comprehend things that are subjective. If the subjective realm is not real, then why should the objective realm be more real? Our sight does not prove reality in itself. It may act as a tool by which we can measure certain aspects of reality, but it is not absolute reality. Unicorns may not be objectively real, but that does not mean unicorns do not have reality.

  • @SimulacraMan he doesn't see it that way he sees it as black or white. without question

  • @uneedrandination It is a swell thing that seeing is not all-being.

  • @SimulacraMan Indeed, I agree, if anything your senses can fool you more than anything. Weird how the sixth sense is knowing, which is something that is absolute. although the bridge to the 6th sense, the five senses is highly fragile, so impressionable. Sight for example. We are not seeing even a slither of the color spectrum, Our brain is literally pushing that aside due to the fact that we can't handle that. In dreams we see without actual sight, hear without actual sound. some don't get it

  • lindo uma musica q expreça as dores q o destino adora fazer agente passar, uma musica q ajuda vc a chorar para botar pra fora tudo q tá te dexando mau, prq e bem melhor botar pra fora do q guarda dentro de si mesmo.

  • Pan was the greek god of the forest and animals, and the labyrinth is where one loses themselves and never gets out, stuck with the minotaur.

One can be lost in life, with humans that kill, worse and less forgiving than nature. Pan was believed to be lost....so was this Pan.

    I'm making myself sad:(

  • Thumbs Up if you still watch this on 2011! And still be watching it over and over again! Just like LOTR..hha

  • try listening this soundtrack with this background:

    rainymood . com

  • hehe, so simple yet nicely

  • This is what I call a "cursed" or "haunting" song. And don't get me wrong. It's not a bad thing. I call it that because it's a song that keeps being on your mind and makes you think. It's beautiful.

  • 1:16 WAAAAAW

  • @AnonymeAnimal

you're wrong :) the last scene was the flower and the signs the princess left behind in this world, and which can be seen only for those who know, where to look.

    anyway, the music is amazing

  • it can be so relieving to run away from the reality and hide in a phantasy world. I don't know if that world was real in pan's labyrinth, I kinda didn't think so because the last scene you see is Ofelia dead and not her as a princess.

  • Beautiful...Ofelia was a really lost girl, I feel sorry for her :'(

  • No...even Guillermo del Toro stated that the fantasy world she sees is real..everything is real

  • This song always makes me cry...

  • I didnt understand this movie at all.... Is she like ... crazy? Because it couldnt have been all real .

  • i live in my dream listening to ur music....thank you

  • this song is beautiful and scary at the same time

  • @alexneo202 thanks

  • Almost five years since I saw it in the cinema... time flyes away.

  • @noralexa1 - I agree, well said...

  • Those who seem mad are often the sanest of us all not boar down by the shallow nature or greed of human kind.

  • @CarlaFox1997 ''There's no such thing as sanity and that's the sanest fact''-Dire Straits.

My opinion is that everyone of us have their own state of mind,we create our reality but it's like we have agreed in a ''common sense''. There are some people however that prefer to live in their own world because they can't stand this ''common sense'' thing which most of the times makes people act like robots. That doesn't make them insane, they're special and braver than most of us.

  • The whole thing was all in her head. There's no magic, no supernatural, just a girl who lost herself in a sad, sad life. It drove her to madness, and then to her own death. She believed in the lies in her own head until the very end.

A very sad, but very true analogy for the way we all live our lives, no?

  • @BadLuck765 can be seen that way ...ill give you that

  • @BadLuck765

That isn't true at all, all of the magic and supernatural was real remember the scene with the mandrake root?

That was Guillermo Del Toro's way of proving to the audience that the fantasy was real and not just imaginary and in Ofelia's head.

  • @benevolentimmortal Of course, the woman could have recovered on her own. I'm actually pretty certain the whole point of the movie is that the audience isn't supposed to know whether or not it was real.

  • @BadLuck765 Actually, the director has said in interviews that the fantasy world was real.

  • @bluewolf98 If that's true, fair enough. Do you have a link? I'd like to see how he worded that. I'm skeptical that that was his intent all along, and even if it was, I feel like the, "wait, was that real or not...?" was a far superior ending. If what you claim is true, it makes me wonder if that was his initial intention and then changed it because most people preferred that "the fantasy is real."

  • @BadLuck765 I don't; sorry. I actually think I read it off a website that was analyzing the ending, but it was quite a while ago and I don't remember where.

  • @bluewolf98 Aw, no problem. I was just curious.

  • @BadLuck765 Dude Thats Not How The Storyline Is Or How It Goes.

  • @Davidsaysstfu1 it's left open to interpretation, so you can't really say he's wrong. but yeah, I prefer to think it was all true and that she lives on. it's just less depressing that way.

  • @Davidsaysstfu1 Yes It Is But You Prefer To Live In a World With Bunnies And Rainbows Where Everything Is Okay. Also, Why Are You Typing Like This?

  • @BadLuck765 It's Neater And You Guys Maybe Right I Think I Got The Short Version Ima Watch Again For Arguments Sake And No I Don't Live In A World Full Of Bunnies Your World Is Way Different Than Mine Trust Me.

  • @Davidsaysstfu1 Well, I was mostly just being an ass. The fact that you say our worlds are different does lead me to believe yours has a lot more magical rainbow bunnies in it, though.

Regardless, if you do watch the film again, don't expect to be convinced of my interpretation of it. What mad Pan's Labyrinth so great was because it leaves you with this aching question. Was it real or was it all in her head? The viewer isn't supposed to be able to tell.

  • @BadLuck765 Exactly So Stop Being A Dick I Was Trying To Make A Point

  • @Davidsaysstfu1 I'll Stop Being A Dick When You Stop Typing Like This

  • @BadLuck765 Well, the beauty of it is that you don't know if it's real or not. The fantasy can go both ways....and that is very true in real life.

  • @BadLuck765 Actually it was more of a reflection of experience in the Spanish civil war; what sorts of things in reality were crossed over and translated into a child's imagination and her mental treatment of that experience.

  • @BadLuck765 Totally wrong. She lived in both worlds, and they were (are) equally real. The tragedy - and the madness - of the general is that he could live in only the material. Save your pity for those who think that there is nothing beyond what they can see.

  • @BadLuck765 Yeah but what about the part when she escapes from the room using her own door, or the part where magically she goes through the labyrinth, or the part when they burn that thing and her mother dies. I really want to believe she was a fairy princess. :D

  • @BadLuck765

I understand your point of view. But how can you tell for sure that it was all in her head? If it is true that she's a princess of a kingdom outside this world, it would be common sense that no one else can see what she sees.

  • @EFullMoon Well, I don't know for sure, that was just my perspective on it. But I'm pretty certain the movie was designed so that nobody could tell for sure.

  • @BadLuck765 That's true, and that's the beauty of it..

  • @BadLuck765 I don't think of it that way. I think this is a beautiful analogy of how fantasy can help a person through bad experiences. She was the sanest and most loving person in the film, because she had created a world in which everything seemed right and good. I think most people have an image of a world they would like to live in which inspires their everyday actions.

  • @Image4ever People have an unfailing capacity to believe what they prefer to be true over what is likely to be true.

  • @BadLuck765 When your dreams make more sense then the life around you...whats the difference.. Whats true and false depends solely on ones mind state.. Just as what is 'write' and what is 'wrong'

  • @uneedrandination If you think reality, and therefore morality, is entirely subjective, I suppose you must be okay with racism and wars and murder as long the person committing those acts believes it's okay. Since it's all in his mind and true to him.

What you're saying is that there is no objective truth or reality. I disagree.

  • @BadLuck765 or it´s just like Pan says in the movie, we grow up and forget everything since children belive more that grow ups do.

  • @BadLuck765 Maybe, maybe not. Who can say what reality is real? Were we her madness, and there her truth?

  • @BadLuck765

Well, no. Del Toro, the writer and director, has not said that.

The fantasy continues beyond her death, which likely indicates that it was not imagined by her.

  • @Hackneyedd I'm satisfied in saying this "fantasy continuing beyond her death" was just a delirium induced by the near-death just prior to her actual death.

While you're right, that isn't necessarily the case, your argument against it isn't very strong.

  • I adore this movie♥ I know that Ofelia did not die :)

  • yah know when i first watched this i thought there was gonna be something happy about it.....no i was wrong. its sad as h.ll ...

  • i am, trying....

  • keep quiet. just....believe it exists, Anna

  • I stayed crying in my sofa even after the movie was done, watching the credits... Loved it

  • this is the most magnificent melody i have ever heard

  • Ofelia greatly reminded me of my childhood... I really could connect with her. This movie was seriously touching and is the best I have ever watched. :')

  • I found myself humming the Lullaby subconsciously.

  • I really feel ofelia ... When i saw the movie, It was like i had seen something that I had in my mind for a long time. It left me different feelings when I saw this stroy and pictures and melodies, all, in a real movie.

  • One of the best movies I´ve ever seen! Love it! Del Toro is a genius! And the music? Amazing!

  • Lovely song. The music form the movie is absolutely amazing and I love it. I love classicaly type music in movies instead of contemporary. Contemporary music just can't make you feel the things that this music can.

  • There is nothing that isn't perfect about this song. Apart from the length. It definitely needs to be longer!

  • i watched this when i was nine...my dad bought the movie thinking it was going to be a cheerful little kid movie...but i guess he didnt know what it was truly about. however this movie is and always will be my favortie movie of all time. thank you for posting. there are no words to truly describe how this song makes me feel...like im not sure how to respond. brilliant. truly brilliant. :)

  • I use this on my son's website. It's hauntingly beautiful, like my son. (He died at 17)

Either google Taylor Burgstahler and go to the first site, or go to

    TaylorBurgstahlerDOTmemory-ofDOTcom

  • @azsummer2003 I'm sorry for your son...I think he was very happy to listen to this beautiful song.

  • @azsummer2003 awww!!! D';

  • @azsummer2003 oh i'm so sorry...i guess he died on 2003....may he be happy wherever he is...

  • good song good movie but sooooooo bloody sad!

  • For me, this movie was both a happy and a sad movie.

It was very sad when Ofelia was all alone, with no family but her brother. And only Mercedes and Pan cared for her.

It was sad when her soul left her body after she was shot.

Though in the end, it was kind of happy, when she returned to her world, her world of magic as promised.

  • if u don't buy this song on itunes the pale man is gonna get you and eat all your children...and if you're a child he's gonna eat YOU!!!!

  • @cartergirl3of3 But he already ate me. Would dat count? =P

  • @YoMalvado 3 words: reconsumption of regergitation...I'm sure he'd do it too :)

  • @cartergirl3of3 But then let's say my cat eats me first. He's already tried, cha know?

  • @YoMalvado ya ever seen the first Men In Black movie?? if not, watch it and pay special attention to the end and what tommy lee Jones does to that cockroach at the who ate him. That should answer your question...XD

  • @cartergirl3of3 ... Nah, but I like mah cat. Plus mah mom would kill meh. Dat's why I always have some of her green vieggies dat look like spinachs bur are not spinachs with meh 8P

  • This song...I think I've heard it before. Only I believe it was not in this life time but in another, so very long ago. It's haunting, like it's from a lost memory. Epically the piano part. I wonder why this song has such an affect on my soul.

  • I've never seen another movie like this, not one that could make me feel this way. Extraordinary!

  • @ladyYeniel Try with "El espinazo del diablo", it's in the same age, the franquist Spain, by the same director.

  • at the end of the movie I cried, not because of what happened to her. But because everything Pan had promised her had been true. I was sad, and yet I was so happy for her.

  • this song is hauntingly beautiful!

  • just amazing...

  • Comment removed

  • who wrote this beautiful sonng :)

  • @viv88 Javier Navarrete

  • the music is fabulous, but the movie is way too cruel for me....can't watch that sort of thing...

  • So strange....yet so familiar...like from a lost dream.

  • So sad, so sad .. I love the pathos. This mysterious pain I love. Everybody here loves that I know.

  • very sad

  • I am a huge movie-fan and I often get touched and moved by great films. But I believe I've never cryed as much before I saw Pan's Labyrinth. I litterly CRYED, not just tears. One of the best films ever made. This is why I love finding non-Hollywood-films, they're often the best.

Bravo Del Toro (and Javier Navarrete ofc). <3

  • @noralexa1 i cried during titanic, man on fire, and this movie :D

  • *_*

  • ALERTA ANTIFASCISTA!

  • the only bad thing about this movie was that it was to graphic, the whole bottle to face scene was way too much and made this movie less classy

  • I thought that this movie had a great story behind it. I loved the visuals and the music. I did however get a little frustrated with the characters in the movie LOL. I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen so I won't go into details. Overall I enjoyed watching this movie!

  • @forevermitch03 whoops! I left out, "it". :P

  • love it ♥

  • this movie was great

  • wow .. dreaming.

  • beautiful, the song makes me feel empty inside. sad but hopeful. a work of art. this is what separates normal movie soundtracks from great ones.
