I used to want to sing this song to Adam in Butterflies, in the episode about him getting dumped by Annie. Now, I want to sing it to Jay in the Inbetweeners, in the episode End of Term, when Chloe breaks his heart.
i was holiday in devon when this song was out, i was 10 years old and this song was played a lot on the radio, brings back great memories, thanks for this :)
If I could get that same MEDICATION????? They sing DEDICATION...And it's "I'll wait until my chances will come" not occure...Found lyrics on my LP from '77 :-)
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
This song will be fearured on our first show beginning November 8.
You made few mistakes when you write the lyrics, in stead of "dedication" from - "If I could get that same dedication" you put "medication" and each time you confused "know" from "Don't you know I'll be your substitute" with "no", and instead of "sigh" from "Each day by your window you sit and sigh hoping to see her face" you put "inside". Sorry if this upset you, but my intention was to help the ones that listen to the song for the first time and for a better understanding of lyrics.
Does anyone know where Clout is from. I think they are from South Africa. Maybe not. I saw their movie in Salisbury,Rhodesia when it came out in1977. Greatband. It hit #1 in S.A in1976
What associations does the song have for other people? It always makes me think of the Wendy Craig sitcom Butterflies; I yearned to sing it to Adam, in the episode where he got dumped by his girlfriend Annie.
@kiz66 The Who released a single called "Substitute" in 1966. The song "Substitute" by Clout isn't a cover a version of the Who song. They are two totally different songs.
Hi, I thought you meant that The Who had recorded the same song before Clout. That's what version usually means, the same thing done differently, not something completely different.

`Don't you no I'll be.'..should read `Don't you KNOW I'll be....' and you've been waiting much to long....should read `.....Much TOO long.....'
Mind you, it makes your effort look cute ...

@battywattywoo The early summer of 1978 was a vintage period of my early teens, and this song takes me right back there!
