I had the first dose of radiation for diagnoses on 1/20, then 1st Scan on the 23rd. The scan was scary at first but I closed my eyes and that helped. I was in there for 1 hour and 10 min total. 2nd dose of radiation 40 percent more to treat tissue left behind from surgery. Radiation left a bad taste in my mouth I drank allot of water in the first 24 hours. Stomach cramps and body cramps from being Hypothyroid. For the most part not as bad as expected I was off for 9 day total my mom helped me c
I go in for radiation pill on Friday for my thyroid cancer I am really scared when I see the tube because I am claustrophobic any suggestions thanks for sharing
My Thyroid Cancer Journey started in March 2008. I did a few video diaries when I was in isolation as well. Thanks for sharing your experience I am sure it will be helpful. Being prepared and knowing what is going to happen is a key element, so seeing your clips from the hopsital will help others so much.
mylady908, i am sorry that you have to go hypo! i got sugar free lifesavors candies and they taste great! yes, you are suppose to wait 24hours before you start with the candies. i used sugar free because i ate them alot and even in the middle of the night i would wake up and eat one and drink. i also sucked on lemons and drank lemon water. drink lots of water! i was just fine. you will be very very tired going hypo, so get lots of funny movies and relax! let me know how it goes.

Talk to your doctor about including T3(Cytomel) with your T4 (Synthroid). It has made a world of difference for me with having energy and feeling a bit closer to normal. I am about to have the rest of my thyroid taken out. God Bless You!
Hi, I'm about to get the RAI, but I'm SO worried. I'ved always struggled with my weight, and I'm scared to go hypo. Have you been able to maintain your weight? How are you feeling these days?
My doctor was able to get Thyrogen shots for me so I didn't have to go off my meds. I would definitely push my doctor to get it. my insurance covered the expensive shots. I did have to push my doctor, but the second time around he was prepared. I am very sorry for people who go off their meds. I have gained some weight from all this. but i believe i will be able to manage it now that the tests are done and i can keep my T levels normal. feel free to ask as much as you need

I noticed a knot in my neck a few months ago, & I was told it was prob swollen glands. I dismissed it. Yesterday I had a thyroid screening done, & they saw a 3 to 4 cm mass on my thyroid, & told me that it should be biopsied. I really don't know much other than that. I was wondering how big was the nodule you had, & what were your symptoms? Was it a solid mass that you could feel on the outside of your neck?

i didn't throw away my clothes. they say you can wash them but i didn't want to deal with contaminating the washing machine. So i did what the hospital does with it radioactive stuff, and that is to put it away for 2 months. we had a building that was far away from the house so i just bagged it up and put it out there. watch my video Before my radioactive iodine treatment and i talk about all those things that i learned.
I started meds on 1/28 and I am feeling pretty good starting to get energy back :)
