@svenXDsven It's a 20mm anti-mortar/missile rotary barrel chaingun called the Centurion C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery, and mortar). It was adapted from the naval version called the Phalanx CIWS (Close-in Weapon System). An A10 uses a 30mm GAU-8 and usually a different kind of ammunition, but essentially the same concept on a smaller scale. Although this gun is used on other aircraft throughout the world.

For anyone still unclear of what this is.. its a C-Ram counter rocket mortar and missile defense system. when the alarm sounds it means incoming and the defense system locates tracks and then attempts to destroy which is what u can see and hear the "BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV" and the trail of bullets in the sky.

@Fallout3dude27 He was the mortar commander and was shouting 'get some HE in now', as in, get some mortar rounds ready to be fired. He was shouting because the cameraman was filming instead of doing his job.

yes they do shoot explosive rounds, and they are 20mm "miniguns". the reason they explode is so that the rounds which miss (which is more than 90% as you can see) dont come down and kill random people. the system would otherwise work fine with normal ammo as it does on ships.

Its a Phalanx gun. The British use them to shoot down incoming mortars and rockets. They are designed to be mounted on ships to shoot down incoming missles. Hope that helps.

Sounds like he's calling to get the H E meaning High Explosive but that could refer to any one of several different weapons. Could they be a mortar or tank platoon?

Oh and the tracer rounds are off a phalanx or other similar chaingun. Phalanx are usually employed as anti-missile defense...which can include incoming mortar but I doubt any tracking system exists to track something as small as a mortar. I could be wrong. Also, you will only see something as sophisticated as a phalanx on a high value target. This place seems to have three or more.

@nazosnowboarder u guys are funny mortars arent scary i was on the mortar platoon at camp anaconda iraq in 04 and we had to stay out there and shoot back with ours while everyone else hid in the bunkers we had mortars land all around us all the time some as close as 100m .
