  • That's not Dan Pai. That's Sensei Dan Pauley.

  • Lots of great details in this video. Thanks for posting!

  • Master Decker taught an effective art and was a great fighter. He had respect for all traditional arts and serious practitioners. It's easy (and safe) to cast aspersions on someone who is no longer with us. He did not do that. Many of Master Decker's senior students are still around perhaps some of you will chance to meet them and get a chance to experience first hand. Also, let me say as someone with thirty years practicing martial arts I am tired of secret pass words and decoder rings.

  • Decker's art was and is based on generalizable tactics and strategies. The core forms teach ways to efficiently use whole body power. These ideas also apply to weapons.. This system has been tested in combat and in the ring it works. What Master Pai taught the public was not what he used in private. Master Decker's real system is not a part of Pai Lum they are different systems.

  • I trained with Master Decker for over 12 years, many many years ago. We all miss him.

  • Okay. This writing is not for those, who know nothing, and never will. Unless, they sign up, line up, and shut up, for you really know nothing. There were only 3 indoor live in students, with Grandmaster Pai LoLung, Pai TianLong, Dr Daniel Kane Pai, Danny Kalimaahaae Pa'i (his birth name). These are all his names. There are few, if any at all, that could match or even come close to Teacher Pai. We, a few of the Pai Lum elders that are still left, are writing the book of "Lung's" life. Only thos

  • What the nay sayers have to understand is that Master Decker is breaking things down to a basic level to display how things work. Verbal communication is used for those who can't grasp the physical yet. What will or won't work is relative to the individuals involved. There is random chaos in any self-defense situation that doesn't happen in a pattern. However, these application drills function as a seat belt in that they may dramatically increase one's chance of survival. No guarantees!

  • GM Decker was awesome. have this video on vhs from back in the day. i guess that u r chi lin pai. i have been doing tiger crane for over 10 yrs and master felson still tells me its wrong. you got to love it. always striving for perfection.

  • wow this guy is pretty cool

  • (part 2) I don't know if this guy can really do it or anything, but in the end, the video is just demonstrating the technique in a very basic way. one thing that's pretty cool about kung fu is that there can be a lot of little techniques that you can use if you get them down. and they don't take up a lot of energy to do, but can be effective when dealing with someone--and they're not shrouded in hocus pocus. it might be simple physics or just a smart technique.

  • I think ppl need to realize that just because it's not MMA, doesn't mean that it's ineffective. some of this stuff really can work--it really just depends on HOW you train. MMA guys train differently because it's a sport. A guy like this might do just fine on the street against most guys if he trains for it. Timing, technique, sparring against different kinds of opponents, conditioning, and experience--that's what makes you a more effective fighter. ppl shouldn't dismiss it so quickly.

  • My husband trained with Dennis Decker's student and this art is wonderful. For the trolls posting, you probably haven't seen it actually applied, this is a BREAK DOWN! in a real situation its much faster.

  • some good apps.

  • What the viewers need to understand, is this is a TRAINING DEMONSTRATION. In actual time, the openent would e on the ground or worse. I am familar with Dennis Decker, and you have no idea of the kind of power he could generate nor his speed.

  • interesting - hadn't seen him for years -- thank you for posting this .... roomed with him back in 1970, in Hartford - right after military..... this is good to see ... this is just training - but was not a guy to mess with' we're not talking how to choke some one out ... more like there were no ref's where he applied his art ... thx

  • he doesnt keep his guard up - if he didnt attack like that - he would have been hit

  • This form is not the Hung Family / Hung-ga form. The only thing in common with the Hung-ga form is the name. The Chilin chuan form is a combination of a Tiger form connected to a Crane form. There used to be a Shaolin group in Canada that taught a version of this Tiger form with a different connected Crane form. Therefore, I have long believed that this Chilin Tiger form is Shaolin based.

  • WOW

    a true master

doesnt seem to do anything and the opponent is flying around! (no sarcasm intended, im serious)

  • what a load of shit. I've never seen such rubbish in my life.... is this supposed to help you defend yourself or just some sort of bad way to get laughed at?

  • @PONTIACGRANDPRIX I'm sorry you don't understand what you are seeing in this video. I had the privilege of studying under Master Decker before enlisting in the army. Master Decker could do everything you see in that video, at full speed, against any opponent. I hope in time you increase your understanding; and learn not to criticize and dismiss the things that confuse you.

  • @alastair415

nope. not confused at all. This shit is a joke and would not work in a situation outside of this community center gym this "master" calls a do jo . Master Decker and you are both a couple of idiots, use your "third eye" and figure it out.

  • @PONTIACGRANDPRIX

you're gallant attitude combined with you're lack of knowledge is the only joke. i mean, clearly the building where someone trains has everything to do with their ability (obviously... i mean c'mon guys common knowledge). there is little one can even say except for i am sorry that you don't see the art in these motions. dark clouds of doubt obscure you're vision. perhaps you would see more art in this world if you replace you're fear with love. for fear is the only weakness.

  • @loon101013 Stop trying to sound like mister miaggi off karate kid. "perhaps you would see more art in this world if you replace you're fear with love. for fear is the only weakness." You got beat up alot in highschool didn't you? The fact of the matter is that in a real fight or situation these techniques don't work..... Art wont help you when your getting punched in the face.

  • @PONTIACGRANDPRIX You don't know what won't work, because there are too many variables that affect the outcome of these techniques of which you have no first hand experience. The man in the video was known for using his skill to knock around experienced fighters who were twice his size. Anyone who ever met him would verify his skill. This is 8 minutes of basic applications from 30 seconds of a form. The application of a technique is limited only by the mind and skill of the practitioner.

  • my brother trained with dennis decker.he's currently putting together a web site with a few hours of dennis deckers chi lin. let you all know when it is done.

  • Glad to see there are some advanced martial artist out there who appreciate a true martial genius! If there is more footage of the seminars held at westmont academy please get them out there. be a shame to let his knowledge of the arts fade!

  • I trained with him for years and was ranked by him, as well as the other instructor in this video, and 2 other high ranking masters. His principles and movement were amazing. His triangulation theories were amazing and applicable to any art form. He was a task master... his motto was "stung often, hurt occasionally". I once asked him about negative energy strikes and how applicable they were; he promptly knocked me out with one. Lots of good memories and stories

  • negative energy strikes...never heard of them?

  • I helped film this sequence at Westmont Academy with Roland Roemer Sensei (Dan Pauley was the practice dummy in this sequence) in the eighties. No matter what...this man could hit like a mule. His fighting skills were very high level.

  • Too funny!

  • Master Decker was a one of a kind and I do miss him. Thank you for posting this.

  • Dennis Decker could fight doubters (and some believers too) went to the hospital. Anyone that stayed with him for any period of time could fight. You had to be tough to survive the training.

  • Thank you for posting this I am a long time student of M.D.'s system. The triangulation and "seven star" theory Master Decker is explaining was considered "in the door" info. when I was coming up. Glad you posted it, if people don't share, it will die. Master Decker could apply these techniques in real time against trained fighters throwing unplanned attacks. He was a great fighter. Thank you again.

  • yes, it is obvious he does understand the triangulation/seven star theory. Blindape79 how long did you train with Master Decker?

  • he understand the style very well,,even better than many chinese master

  • Very interesting breakdown of this form, his analysis especially the triangles interest me. This is the first time i have heard of this person but his breakdown of what the movement can be is alot better then what i have seen others do.

Anyone that has actually trained with him have anymore more information?

  • I was lucky enough to train under Master Decker for a short time in the early 1990's, in NJ. Thank you for posting this video.

  • I do not really know how to put video on here. Does anyone else have video of master decker.

  • billguy1234, did you ever get more videos of GM Decker posted? I am a student of the Chi Lin family of kung fu through Daniel Honaker, who trained under Charlie Brown and Ron WIlkerson, who in turn trained under GM Decker.

    thanks

  • my brother trained with dennis decker, he's putting together a few hours of master deckers chilin onto a web site.ill let you know when it is done.classic footage!!

  • @66chilin That Decker footage finished yet?

  • i TRAINED WITH THE MAN NEAR THE END OF HIS LIFE. A WONDERFUL TEACHER AND ONE OF THE BEST MARTIAL ARTISTS I EVER MET. BELIEVE ME, THE MAN COULD FIGHT

  • thanks for sharing. i train in this art and still train with his students. i favorited this as well

  • Sure would like to see in real time. This guy is no fighter. But he sure can count.
