  • Incredible and beautiful!

  • The 5th graders I work with at the charter school sang this for their christmas concert. That's so funny, not saying its easy, saying they were that good!!!

  • Who is anybody to say that one cannot change music? Music is how we express ourselves, if we never change it, then we can never change either. Let them express them through this, and let us all follow their example! Beautiful voices, with beautiful soul behind it, should never be confined or scolded.

    Sing on, loves.

  • I'll stick with the Monkees version of 1967, better voices.

  • The voices are beautiful, the intonation really good. So please don´t romanticize the harmony in bar 4 of the refrain. It is not O.K. to put our romantic understanding of harmony like a parfume over a music which had a different attitude to harmony.

The scale is from d to d without alterated notes. The c sharp in bar 4 - alto part - is wrong.

We never would change a Reger or Brahms harmony. Why do we feel free to do this with early music without analizing the context?

  • @PapagenoHannover We wouldn't change a Brahms harmony? I totally would...

Seriously though, I've heard many recordings of this song where the harmony is altered. And I've heard some where the harmony is unaltered. I like it altered personally. I don't think there's anything wrong with altering it if people are made to understand that it's been altered and that it's not quite "authentic".

  • Hi, I do not understand, why you are changig the harmony in bar 4 of the Tutti to A Mayor. I think the score is right. The music is written in the doric tonality, in which the fifth grade usualli is harmonized as a minor accord.

I also would suggets a faster tempo. Otherwise the wolfe will have the possibility to bite and eat every one of the singers.

  • WHO IS THE ONE PERSON TO DISLIKE THIS!!! CURSE YOU!!!

  • The original text is "Dios guardó el lobo de nuestra cordera" and that's how people understood it in the 16th century. Check the original Cancionero de Uppsala facsimile. "Guardar" may also mean "invigilate", "put away by hiding". "God put away the wolf from our lamb"

  • Don't make the mistake of thinking everything done for Christmas was done inside the Church. Dances and singing in the public areas were always popular during the festival seasons.

  • @misteslaus which makes sense as the origin of Christmas is not Christian at all!

  • @baribassviolin That’s a rather silly statement. While it HAS become associated with various pagan festivals and celebrations, over the years, the origin of Christmas (Christ mass) is exactly as we have all understood it to be.

  • Franco preserved that music for mankind. Thanks to Franco! He was a clerical-fascist like we all are. Thanks to Franco.

  • la mejor version en youtube

  • The Lyrics of the third verse are wrong. The original lyrics are: "Dios guardó DEL lobo A nuestra cordera". Which means: The Lord protected OUR (she)lamb FROM the wolf" or "As God kept our lamb from the wolf" The lamb is a Virgin Mary's reference, while the wolf means the original sin. So the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. Maybe someone recorded the song changing the prepositions "DEL" and "LA" giving the song a totally opposed meaning.
  • we're singing this song tomorrow

  • excellent ! merci

  • i was kidding about that. but wonderful song

  • LoL my mens choir sang this for choir it was legit! this is a cool song an sung by an amazing group of guys!

  • Mate, this is a song about Christmas and all that, I wouldn't recommend it for baby-making! Ha ha!

  • This is not for Christmas at all... People confused the real meaning of "villancico". The word comes from "Villa" which means town. This music was used to "party"

  • If these are the lyrics... I don't know about partying! Riu, riu, chiu1 The river bank protects it, As God kept the wolf from our lamb 1. The rabid wolf tried to bite her But God Almighty knew how to defend her He wished to create her impervious to sin Nor was this maid to embody original sin 3. The newborn child is the mightiest monarch, Christ patriarchal invested with flesh. He made himself small and so redeemed us: He who was infinite became finite.
  • Maybe it's for partying at Christmas? :-p

  • @DrunkCanadian3 the lyrics are a metaphor for the Immaculate conception. The lamb here is Mary, the wolf the Devil. it is Joyful to know the lord has protected Mary so he could be born to die for us, you should rejoice and party!

  • @hcjuancamilo With all do respect, the term 'villancico' has been reduced down to the meaning of "Christmas Carole" since the 20th century began. This simply happened due to the decline of its popularity.

  • are you like....dumb?

  • excessive?

  • hcjuancamilo is right - this is not christmas song. villancico is type of civic or folk music - something like carol, but performed on every fests, fairs etc... just for joy and dancing

  • ¡Preciosa!

  • BELLISSIMO !!

  • Bellissimo questo pezzo, mi ricorda Europa Universalis II!!!

Beautifull this song, i remember Europa Universalis II !!!
