  • Two things,

    (^_^)

  • that was really help for me

    cheers m8

  • Is this Bella Fleck BTW?

    Sure sounds like it

  • I think a lot of people would just like a list of everything you have installed. (for people who want to emulate this look) most importantly, theme settings and desktop picture, and all the little goodies like avant program bar, etc.

  • How do i get the the settings to take effect?

Im checking the boxes but none of the plugins seem to work. Im running ubuntu 8.04

    Cheers

  • does this work on Windows XP?

  • no, there are many programs that are "only for *nix"

  • Wow.

  • What kind of a question is that?

  • No, it only works on linux.

  • does this compiz fusion work on windows vista?

  • nope

  • it only works on linux.

  • Why are all of my replies winding up here? shouldn't they be *under the comment I was replying to*??

  • Hey, guys, I need help. I'm double-booting with both XP and Ubuntu 8.04 desktop version and i can't hear a sound when I watch videos online and I need to hear this tutorial in Ubuntu. When I'm writing this comment I'm running XP to hear what he is saying. Thanks, in advance.

  • Sounds like PulseAudio might be messing you up. I would suggest installing pavucontrol from the Synaptic Package Manager and then launching it with alt-f2 (and then typing its name). It will give you options when you right click to chose where the audio should come out. If you have two places to output the audio it might mess up with flash and other stuff like Wine. That stuff has happened to me before.

  • Hey how do you get your settings manager window to be so small? Mine is huge and i can't work with it and it won't let me size it down...

It is really annoying when the window is bigger than the desktop because everytime i click it changes the area of the window i am on.

  • Hey thanks a ton for this. Excellent tutorial and it helped me out a great deal.

  • thank you so much, this was really helpful.

  • how do i reset all compiz fusion effect please

  • how do i get that icon bar you have in bottom

  • can you only get this on ubuntu or linux?? is there a version of this for vista??

  • Short answer: No

Long answer: You would have to do a lot of work, it is physically possible, but it would take a bit. Just try it out with a live CD, then if you'd like, install it. They make it very easy :)

  • THIS IS WHAT the Linux community needs to go mainstream I really appreciate the time that you spent creating this tutorial. I'd love to see more of these; soon I hope to be able to contribute some of my own.

What applications did you use to create this?

    Thanks again!

  • i`ll say that twice. great job man, if i were gay or you were a woman i`ll kiss you.

  • thank a lot

  • Hi man, is it possible to know where to find your wallpaper? Amazing tutorial btw...

  • Fianally, a Linux user with good taste who hates clutter as much as I do! Nice desktop. Can you give a tutorial on how to intall this? I am rather new to Linux.

  • It must be horrible for linux users, having to use the windows key. Is there anywhere you can buy a keyboard with the linux penguin there instead?

  • yes there is, by a company called Cherry.

  • Simple, use stickers.

  • It's Bill Clinton.

  • To the maker of this video: This is one of the most comprehensive and useful tutorials for us ubuntu noobs out there. Thanks a lot!

  • Are you familiar w/ Mandriva 2008?? im about to get a mac book pro and would like to install a second OS. Someone suggested on installing Mandriva 2008?? Do you think this is a pretty good suggestion?? I want to run Microsoft office as wel. does linux let me do that, or does it use something different??

  • Stick with ubuntu. That's my advice.

  • in my opinion get fedora 8

  • totally fedora 8

  • use OpenOffice instead of microsoft office, its the same darn thing except OpenOffice is free.

  • Hey, how do you customize your 'dropdownmenus' , they are black and nice O_O. I didnt figure it out

  • is compiz fusion, same as beryl?

  • compiz + beryl = compiz fusion

  • so, compiz fusion is better, newer than beryl?

     windows sucks

  • To Gavin part II: In order to get the fully fledged Compiz Fusion, you'll have to go the Synaptic, search for Compiz and Compiz settings manager. Install all this stuff, and after you installed this, you will see an extra "custom" setting option under "appearence" click this one, then you will see the additional settings. You can also access these setting by clicking the "compiz setting manager" icon.

  • Your voice made me uncomfortable.

    Nice tutorial, anyways. :)

  • I love this video!! i have so many days traying! nadie me decia como poner el bendito icono!!! q bien!

  • I can bet Winblows Vista can't do things that Linux can do, no matter how Microsucks disguise it or call it.

Interesting tutorial, very useful when you are new on this "unknown world" of Linux. Nice video.

  • thnx man, very helpful

btw do u know wt puta means in Spanish?

  • Spanish "puta" means "whore" or "bitch".

  • this is a question open to everyone:

I just downloaded the Gusty Gibbons (Ubuntu 7.10 BETA) version, and when I use these commands, nothing happens.

I also have no menu for changing anything.

    Can anyone explain this?

    GavinRoskamp

  • Go to applications->add/remove, select "all available applications" from the dropdown on the right, search for compiz fusion.

Then just install the "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm)" package.

Then, when you go to the System->Preferences menu you should have a new entry called advanced desktop effect settings.

Just figured all this out about 3 minutes ago,but it seems to work fine so far.

  • Oh, and you need to go to system->preferences->appearance, go to the effects tab and select custom as well, or your custom settings won't take effect, it seems..

  • Thanks millions... I figured this out last night, and I just now read your reply =-P

    Thanks anyway!!!

    Gavin

  • To Gavin: The reason that you can't use the commands etc is because Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon comes preinstalled with Compiz Fusion. However the preinstalled version (which is not the same as in this video) is very very basic.

  • pkwonder ur gay, this was a great tutorial an helped me ALOT, thx putta, keep makin these kind of tut.

  • What song did you use on the video?

  • Wow!! Thank you so much for the tutorial.

As much as it's fun to discover features myself, it's quite a bit easier if someone is showing it to me. That's my biggest gripe with Linux. The documentation is all over the place and requires me to hunt for it. It's much easier to just watch videos for a quick start.

Can't wait for KDE 4.0 to come out. I told myself that's my cutoff date to switch back to Linux. That will leave all the other operating systems in the dust in regards to eye candy.

  • Please post more videos like this.. :)

  • man...thank you many online how to's have so many of us running in circles about these features.

  • me aswell i went on ur site and couldn't find our theme..??? great video btw !!!

  • I went on to the blog and I couldn't find your themes. Could you be more specific?

    Thanks for the great videocasts!

  • how can i get the compiz setting manager

    dean@dean:~$ sudo apt-get -y install compiz compiz-gnome .....Couldn't find package compizconfig-settings-manager

    ?????

  • nice video, helped me alot. But i have a question ive just installed compiz fusion and ive enabled the things for you to go get the cube etc, but it still only has 2 desktops. Please reply ASAP!

    Thanks

  • What video editing software was used?

  • For all the info on my theme go to fusioncast dot blogspot dot com and look at the sidebar. Thanks!

  • I also would like to know what window Theme you are using?

    Thanks!

  • You have good videos!

By the way, what is this window theme you're using?

    Thanks!

  • Yeah I know I've had my eyes on the 7600gt for awhile anyways. But that will be a temporary fix before I build that new rig with 8800 gts. By the way have you heard anything about the fixes with those cards on beryl and compiz?

  • Nice snazzy presentation. I think you kind of inspired to go get a 7600gt for 100 dollars. The sole reason I ever installed linux

were these effects and after finding out that my ati integrated P.O.S. x200 wouldn't crap in 3d well anything I lost my mind. Now after using things like repositories I'm going to install ubuntu before blowing 300 on xp which is still over priced no matter what on my new rig. And I wish programs like wine are way better.

  • 7600 GT is exactly my card, by the way :)

  • I dont know, wine is getting pretty good after each update

  • Ok, so for fusion icon, you don't need to run the make command. Just sudo make install (all of the instructions are for Ubuntu Feisty Fawn).
