I just finished building a desktop computer for myself and I'm looking to do some cool projects like this. I wish there were more recent videos and more detailed guides for car pcs
@vanders1200 wow the voice recognition works amazing for such a low power pc
what VR software are you using?and have you considered using a frontend like road/ride runner?and could the VR software your using work with it or would you need to use a RR specific VR plugin?there was a RR VR plugin made by a user on mp3car.com if u want to check it out, both RR&the plugins are free, also can you enter text with your VR sortware?like in the google search box?by word or letter by letter?
If this kinda stuff intrests you check out Centrafuse on the web. Not only do they provide a FrontEnd (the program) but the forum they have have a great amount info on hardware and software for the carputer. And no I don't work for them but I have put my carputer togeather and I am using their software. And yea it has voice control!

looks like a lot of your CarPC esto thinking and doing one on my car because you have not much knowledge in informatics pederia you pass me the design of your CarPC
VERY VERY NICE, how long did it take to get it to recognise your voice, its took me tooo long get Dragon Natural Speaking to configure so I gave up. can you get it to control your volume. How long does it take to load
Have seen many many carputers and how to's on youtube. Yours is the first I have seen that is not only fantastic. But many details that is very helpful. Thank you for popping the trunk and showing us how you did it. Very well done. Hope to see more of your projects in the future. Stuckshutter somewhere in the middle of Tennessee
Nice setup dude! Could you please tell me what in-Dash Monitor are you using? What resolution does it have? Most of the In-Dash multimedia players for cars that I looked up have 1440x234 resolution. Would that work with a pc?
love the video man! but i have one question.....what software are you using? PLEASE ANSWER! you probobly already menchoned it in the vid an i didnt catch it. could you please tell me.
thanx man, i cant believe the over 8 thousand people have seen this on youtube! i find the whole idea really amusing!ive had guys recognising me in maplins its well funny !!! i have a few plans for something that i will be producing in the next year or so that will make this project look like a tin can telephone! so keep your eyes peeled, thanx everyone... carl v
for a couple of years of been planning to do this to my first car...i found a 1980 firebird and its a peice of crap. well the interior anyway. but what i want to know is what software are u using on your computer to regognize your voice and talk back?
hi, saw your video and i loved it. just wanted to advice on a few bits and pieces as i am about to do the same to my car.
these are just minor suggestions.
1. you can repalce your keyboard with an ipod touch or iphone, using WiFI and VNC software. that way, you can use your ipod touch or iphone as a mouse and keyboard together. this can also be done with a windows mobile handset or google G1 handset.
2. you can replace the computer with an ASUS EEE BOX. it will cost you around 230pouds 2.
i say "we have a small child and we are constantly putting the pram in and out of the car" (thats why the metal box is there, to protect the computer).
@vanders1200 good work man.....you don't need to reply to trolls like above......I am in the process of building a same app using my lenovo netbook. I am planning to use python winspeech module for voice commands....what software did you use? .is there any forum or any website to look for more info for a project like this?
this is nice, i am one step closer, e-speaking is the software! (i know that!) but where the hell did you get one of those things where it stops the battery runnin flat, can u help me? i also wonder if anyone knows that when the battery does run flat is there a way of telling the computer, turn off (or hibernate). Thanks again carl but do you know how to make relays, for instance, when the car is on so is the pc instead of using the atx switch extension?! Great job anyway thanks alot for this!
I want to do something similar but not with my car, just in my room. Is it possible to modify the computer's responses to customize each response with a particular audio file?
Nice carputer, Carl. Is there any more info about the mic? I think you said it was a sony condenser mic. I googled for one but can't find one that small. Could you please clue me in on it?
I dig it. I have a carpc as well. Check it out. I had a question about your voice command. What software are you using. I have tried the window version and haven't been able to get it to work right. Let me know...
i have been gathering infomation about car pcs for a while now and this has got to be one of the best iv seen thanks for the help and all the knowlege has given me a few more ideas cheers :P
hi there, thanks for the great comments, the whole idea of this was a project, im sure with a little fine tuning it could match or beat most systems out there, well ALOT of fine tuning would be needed on the size of the machine. but you get the idea. let me know how you get on! it would be great to see if you upload it to youtube!
i have two question.where can i get the voice command software and how did i convert VGA signal into video composite signal also did we lose the video quality when turn into video composite singnal
which converts the signal from vga to composite. they are about 30 uk pounds from ebay.
i did lose quality so if you can do it direct through vga i would do it that way. the only reason i used composite is that the screen in the car did not have a vga input.
yeh sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you! the program is called "e-speaking", type it in google and you will find it! The full version is about $14ish i think :-p , any probs or you get stuck let me know and i'll help. geeks of the world unite!
hey thanx, ive found the program, and started sorting out the commands, but im having a bit of trouble, how did you set it up to play certain songs you wanted? what commands did you set it up with? i can get it to access websites, harddrives, my music etc, but not play songs as i cant figure out how to set it up to do it. Thanks.
Its clearly fucked. No computer would let jamariqui through a decent firewall

So in E-speaking, you can also put your own MP3's for the carputers voice? Because I'm planning to create a KITT carputer.
And can it just react to your voice instead of performing an action?
