  • well you know Michael Jackson was a incredibly smart human being. He made alot of decisions on what to say and have portrayed based on how the media will accept it. For example, he even said himself that alot of the crazy stories about him from the media(and I dont mean child molestation stories) was his own ideas. He knew that after awhile of something being said about him he could use to his advantage. So you never really know when it comes to Michael Jackson speaking in public, just saying.

  • Michael told a whole ton of lies about Joseph. Even in this very speach he lied. Joseph DID play with his boys. He took them to play agames. He took them fishing and he and went camping with them. Jackie wrote in Katherine's book that he doesn't believe his father was too strict. Jackie said people don't know about the nice things his father did because they only want to talk about dicioline.

  • i love mj alot but i think he wanted to be a little white, i mean, im sure he understands the position of a black father especially back then

  • Michael grew up and had kids of his own... he never said he didn't love his dad,, he didn't understand him... and the decisions he had to make..like I didn't understand stand my mother ti I had kids of my own.... Micheal didn't leave his father out of his will he wasn't mentioned , he would have never done that..knowing what the scriptures had to say about taking care of your elderly parents... he loved JOE. Michael and JOE LOVE EACH OTHER..

  • Michael Jackson will have to serve some time in pergatory before making it into heaven because he did not leave his father a dime in his will.Michael always complained way to much about his father. Millions of black men today would not be in prison if more black fathers provided the same kind of love and discipline that Joe Jackson provided to his family.

  • @newbeginxyz Whatever you think of him as a father, Joseph is not good at managing money.

  • @newbeginxyz The kind of LOVE Joe provided? Are you serious? I agree for discipline, but love? Teaching discipline doesn't mean you shouldn't be friendly, smile at your children, joke with them, being pals. Again, I wasn't there so I can't say much. But I saw the biopic.

  • @newbeginxyz exactly, sometimes i get a little annoyed at mj, because i think he forgot where he came from, if he hadn't become as big as a star as he was and just became as famous as the rest of his brothers then he wouldn't be saying all this stuff about his father and he wouldn't supposedly feel that way, cause the only reason he was that insightful was cause of his experience, mj needed to search his feelings a little more before feeding his ignorant ass fans that crap about his own father

  • I wish JOSEPH JACKSON would have been my FATHER. I was a good musician and entertainer. So good that a young boy imitated the way I played, the clothes I wore. The vehicles I rode and drove and became a star. I didn't have a father nor the discipline Joseph gave Michael. I road a motor cycle. wore ruffle front shirts and the color purple. My mother baby sat the kid. He was Prince. Black children need guidance and discipline. Joe Jackson I LOVE YOU AND WHAT YOU REPRESENT TO ALL BLACK CHILDREN.

  • Lol at the "Doughnuts." Thank you for this video. I've been saying this same exact thing about MJ not having any quarrel with his father after MJ understood what parenting was all about. Though, I must say if I was at that University i'd be snoring because I hate long speeches. However, Papa Joe loves all his kids and people need to know that is the way Blacks raised their kids in that generation. Joe had too many kids to play nice, he had to be firm and i'm happy that he was.

  • The physical discipline that Joe Jackson applied to his sons and daughters and made them succeed in music and life, could have come from gang member, prison guards and corrupt bigoted police, or racists with no fear of repercussions from authorities. I WISH THE MR. JOSEPH JACKSON HAD BEEN MY FATHER AND THE FATHER OF EACH EVERY CHILD WHO HAVE BEEN VICTIMS OF THE ECONOMIC, POLITICAL, SOCIAL RACIST AND EVEN SPIRITUAL DEPRIVATION THAT GOES ON DAILY IN THESE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  • This confirms everything I've always said about Joe Jackson. None of us ever met that man, nor was we there to witness what happened back then, but what we do know is a poor black couple raised 9 kids in a house no bigger than a garage to become one of the largest, successful groups of all time! Michael is the best! Because of his father

  • if it wasn't for Joseph and Kathrine we wouldn't have Mikey ^_^

  • Perhaps with the trial and all the horrid upheaval in Michael's life, his mind simply didn't think to update a will.

  • [cont'd] Of course the media will make it look awful, but there are two things to look at, 1)Michael turned out perfectly fine, as did the rest of his siblings, and 2)if Joe wasn't tough on his kids the family dynasty we know of today would probably never exist. If Michael could forgive his father, why can't we?

  • I knew that on some level Joe really loved his children. I can understand reasons why he wasn't really a father in terms of openly showing his love & affection, especially since he was raised the same way. In today's society it would not be allowed, but back then that was the way to raise your kids.

  • Ofcourse Joseph loved Michael.. he was his son... Joseph is a frustrated singer thats why he passed his dream to his children, he forced them to be a super star and he had to hurt them physically and emotionally to do their best which was definitely wrong and thats why he find it hard to expressed his love for his children especially to Michael because they already see him as a tough dad.. but they definitely loved each other.

  • I am glad that you posted MJ's speech. I am glad that MJ was able to reconcile with his father at the end. Although, Joe Jackson has his shortcomings. That does not mean that he did not love his children. MJ explained it all in his speech and that accounts for what we thought was his lack of sensitivity when MJ passed. I wonder just what would have happened if he was able to get the leeches away from MJ? I will always love MJ, but his speech gives a different perspective.

  • @daddysgirl45ntw Agreed and we should also give Joe the benefit of the doubt as Michael did

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. ANYONE COULD SEE JOE JACKSON LOVED HIS FAMILY VERY MUCH, ESPECIALLY MICHAEL, IT SEEMS THAT HE WAS HIS FAVORITE THAT'S WHY HE PUSHED HIM SO HARD. I LOVE JOE JACKSON, HE DID A GOOD JOB RAISING ALL HIS CHILDERN, HE MAY HAVE BEEN HARD BUT, HE NEVER LEFT HIS FAMILY WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG.

    MAY GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

  • I was also beat with extension cords, water hose pipes, and belts that often left bruises and were sore to touch when I went to school. So I know personally what Michael and his siblings went through. I personally believe that it is a trait left over from slavery from where they use to beat blacks with lashes. I believe blacks carried it over into their own families unable to realize how wrong it was. I think it is going to take mental psychology to help blacks get over this and away from it.

  • @globalwaronpoverty I did too get beatings with those things andwhatever else my could find. I am so sure that Michael and his siblings did not get beat no where near as bad as I did and not as much as I did. My mother beat the crap out of us, so much that the kids on the block would tease us. But to this day all of her children are grown with a good education and good jobs. The sayin' spare the rod spoil the child I think holds true.

  • This is beautiful, and very touching. If MJ could forgive, then we surely can.

  • I've always said that Mike was wrong to do that to his father. And that danm that movie.Joe loved his son.

  • Michael wasn't the first son to rebel and then reconsider it later.

  • Michael was a divine soul. To error is human, to forgive is divine. Rip Michael I love you.

  • That speech makes me cry every time. It helped me a lot in my own life, to forgive my own parents and to inspire me not to repeat their mistakes.

Of all the things Michael Jackson contributed to the world, for me, this speech was the most important.

  • Michael said it was a ritual. Joe stripped him naked, oiled him down, beat him with an extention cord, then slammed him into a wall. why didn't somebody call child protection? :(

  • He never said that Joseph whipped him, then immediately threw him into a wall afterward.

If Joseph made a ritual of whipping Michael, that means he didn't do it casually.

  • @jxhensley good point, you have to remember that it was a different time and Michael was one of the youngest and most sensitive. to be honest my father is the same way and i have nothing against him. he, just like jospeh, was a very troubled man..

  • @jxhensley that's the way people raised their kids then, as u can see, no one is in prison now!

  • @jxhensley I think he said that to boteach, nut I'm not sure. Anyway now it seems that michael was starting to understand his father. And we should remember that .'-)

  • thats a lovely speech, you can hear his emotion,

  • oooh great, thanks a lot! :)

anyway i like this speech of Michael, many people should learn to think in this way, to see and understand the other persons situation and point of view... even if there are making mistakes.
