  • This music never gets old... it's adored both by old ladies, as you can see in the audience, and Latvian teenagers, like me :)

  • I swear he sounds just like his father!

  • how could anyone dislike this?

  • I was there (Cobh) recently. Where exactly is the "holy ground"?

  • 7 english pigs, lol

  • Fine girl ya are! haha LOVE!

  • Was this the last song of this performance?

  • @ClaireJdeS No, the last song was The Wild Rover.

  • Hey, I resemble that horny perv remark. I was a sailor in the American navy. We weren't " horny pervs that couldn't have a normal relationship." We were just horny normally.

  • I wish these guys would come to Canada..just love em!

  • @retepstrebor I wish theyd stay there

  • Irish music is the best

  • "We will go into a public house, and we'll sit and drink like men!"

    "We'll make the rafters roar!"

  • My father sang this in his interview to become a primary school teacher. He's tone deaf, so failed miserably! Great to see a good version of it

  • I want one of those sweaters

  • @living2swim i have one, i absolutely LOVE it!

  • Brilliant.

  • i'm pleased to report that history has been preserved and Cobh is still open for business in the holy ground department,,,,

  • what is it they are calling between the lines?

  • @Penobscot5 "Fire girl you are!"

  • @sandinmyears1 'fiNe girl you are...'

  • @mypassionisswords Oops sorry. Typo.

  • to NS Responder yes it is..

  • I like a lot of The High Kings' versions better than I like a lot of the Dubliner's versions. They get an A+.

  • @InvincibleIrishman yup yup...i agree completely with you...they are awesome and do a great job making songs better...lol...so A++ lolz

  • I like the part at 2:06 when drummer Robbie Harris smiles at the audience participation.

  • I am absolutely LOVING this song! All honor to the High Kings!

  • I grew up to this music. I learned of my Irish heritage from Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers (And others; The Chieftens, Irish Rovers, Etc). It warms my heart to hear a new generation keeping it going. Erin go Braugh!

  • karmapeach cannot spell. It's "you're a dick without respect"... not, "your a dick without respect.' Nice public school education, idjit.

  • One of many reasons I love The High Kings is their obvious, infectious love of performing and the songs they sing.

Just by the expressions they wear, they can make me smile and enjoy their music even more!

  • love it

  • as long as there'll be "beer-drinking-people" irish music is safe ;)

    i really like it!

  • This is a very good Band. I am form Austria and i like this Irish folk music. This is better then techno or something.

  • make sure your earphones are in

  • wow ... the clancy's legacy looks like it is in good hands .. outstanding !!!

  • Fare Thee Well!!!

  • grandi grandi grandi... finalmente vera musica irlandese!

  • thanks for the folk who + my last comment, see i do check up. god bless yee xxx

  • Fine girl you are, god bless em for carrying on such a great group as THE CLANCY BROTHS....

  • I do love this song and the High Kings do a great version. But just FYI and histories sake " The Holy Ground " was a notorious red light district in the town of Queentown, County Cork in Southern Ireland. It was a major seaport in the 19th century. Queenstown has since been remained and is the current town of Cobh, County Cork. I may get some thumbs down for posting this but that's okay. I like to know the history of these songs. Thought some of you might also.

  • "history's sake" and " since been renamed". A pox on UTube for not having an edit feature........and on me for not proofreading before posting.

  • That is very interesting, and thumbs up, but after some research, I read that this story is about a man who goes away on a ship, promising to return. A storm hits, and when he survives, he goes to the pub, forgetting about the girl. He then goes back out to sea. I found your information about the holy ground very interesting though.

  • Thank you, eaturspinach. I'm not wholly sure that the Holy Ground in Queenstown was the vessel which caused this song to be written. It could have been the version you mentioned. I like to know the history so I'll do some further digging. I'll let you know if I come up with anything definitive. Salute.

  • No, actually you'll get some thumbs up :))

  • @Rikki0 Well it is from sailors' what do you think they would be singing about church lol. In any case it is a great old song

  • @Rikki0 hey the red light district is a holy ground if you are a horny perv that cant have a normal relationship

  • @sergent17

That's quite a low cut to sailors and servicemen.

  • Not thumbs down. Thumbs up! Thx for your post!

  • Listen to his fathers version of this, you may change your mind, i think they are great and am so pleased that the clancy brothers music lives on and on and on and on and on

  • @bondie45 Yes, the High Kings are the 21st Century reincarnation of the Clancys & Tommy Makem: updated, polished and upbeat, but still old, traditional Irish. God bless 'em lads!!

  • Best version of this song ever

  • wow they r really good and they have reely jolly faces

  • these guys are soooo good at singing

  • A great tribute to his father and uncles, Bobby, Tom, Paddy and Liam. It's wonderful to see this love and respect for what came before them - also never letting us forget the Legend of Tommy Makem and The Clancy Brothers!

  • Who would give a negative point to this comment?

  • LOVE THEM!!! Nothing about me is Irish but i love all Irish music... and I am TOTALLY in love with the HK ;D

  • One of the best High Kings songs.

  • fantastic song

  • my nam loooooves singin this

  • THAY ARE THE BEST

    I love Irish music

    thank you .

  • I love you for loving Irish Music.

They are the best they bring all the old stuff back yeah know. An another thing they look like they are having fun.

Other newer Irish singers like Celtic Woman and Thunder, just seem to me any way like they are going through the motions.

Fine taste in music though good ears.

  • I could peel Darren out of that sweater!!

  • 2:59!! Man,. they look like so much fun to party with!!!! ;D

  • wow love it soo much !!!!!

  • They are simply the best!!!!!!!!

  • 2:59

Haha, reminds me of my great-grandfather. XD

  • sweet jumpers! i want the same one! I will ask my mother to make for me ^_^

they are great! in their music it's visible that they have fun.

  • These guys can really get the whole room involved in a swinging time! This music is absolutely magical! I shall have to look around for their CDs!

  • i wish they would come to the us...

  • 2:59!!! I want to go fucking party with them!

  • God I just love this song so much and its such a briallant version of it to. They are an unreal band

  • I saw them about two weeks ago. iT WAS AN ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE, NO BACKING BAND. iNTERESTING CHANGE.

  • This was on easter it was great for sunday afternoon great music and engergy good versions of them tunes aswel

  • To see Finbarr Clancy (the speaker in this clip) singing with the Clancy Brothers search for "Haul Away Joe - Clancy Brothers & Robbie O'Connell." The Clancys were getting old by then, but it was nice that Finbarr had the opportunity to tour with them.

  • I saw them live a couple monthsago they were amazing

  • How long have these been going?

  • not very long

  • i went to see them last year, they're great live, really get d crowd goin.

  • i think they started in late 2007 early 2008 but not to sure

  • This is my 2 yr old's favorite song ever!!! He dances the whole time and when they sing "Fine girl ya'are!" He throws his hands up in the air. Awesome!

  • These old people singing with these young guys in the audience and they know every word. I love it

  • oh give these guys a break people.

    they are decent. really.

  • This one is great... some of their songs are very polished, but this has a hint of the old "Makem & Clancy" spirit.

  • good on ye boys.this is great stuff.cheers

  • Get them over here in U.K. They are fantastic!!!

  • This song is absolutely amazing. This is enough to get anyone on their feet. My 1 1/2 year old daughter loves this song and the Wild Rover and knows almost all the words to the songs. I'm hoping to take her to see the High Kings sometime. JOB WELL DONE BOYS!!!

  • Youre just jealous!

  • Darren is sex on legs!

  • Well, Irish music is safe for another generation. Good to know.

    -jcr

  • @NSResponder only one more tho ! :(

  • I must have been an Irish fisherman in a past life, I just Love these seafaring songs! Check out Luke Kelly's "Shoals of Herring", its unbeleivable.

  • they are a talented group but a bit too polished for my liking! Maybe when i see them live I'll like them a bit more! They do a great job of this song though!

I'll be testing some of their music on my foreign friends in Ireland to see what they think as they don't seem to like my usual Irish Music!

  • How can anyone who is Irish, whether in Eire or in the Diaspora, not listen to this and have their hearts swell with pride? What else holds the Irish around the world together than our tradition of music, of hospitality, of celebration in times very good and very bad. We are family, all of us, across the globe, separated for decades but always proud and ever connected by common blood and love for our motherland.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with you. Erin go bragh!

  • FINE GAL YE ARE!!!

  • This song has me a victim of Mind Rape.

    lol

I keep randomly screaming FINE GAL YE ARE! And people look at me like im nuts

    :D

  • Draw me another PINT and throw me a WHISKEY chaser aswell .

    FINE GAL YE ARE !!!!!!!!

  • I like CT just as much as HK...I love them for different reasons.

HK becuase they are carring on trad. and CT because they are more modern and younger.

  • Okay, I love both Celtic Thunder and High Kings, but you can't say one's better than the other. Why? They're two VERY different styles of music. The High Kings are very traditional Irish ballads, and sound very Celtic. Celtic Thunder, like Celtic Woman, has a very contemporary sound, but that doesn't mean they're better or worse. So... there. Mwha.

  • lad the high kings are still better.

  • First of all, I'm a girl, lol. And that's your opinion and I respect that. Personally, I like Celtic Thunder's style more, though I like both in different ways. But *shrugs* whatever

  • i think that celtic woman is more traditional than celtic thunder though still contemporary

  • There are no comparisons between The High Kings and Celtic Thunder. HK are streets ahead of them in all departments. CT are just bland and boring.

  • celtic thunder reley on their good looks as much (if not more) than they do on their talant.

  • They really sound the like the clancy's in here, actually.

It's a shame bands like these, Celtic Woman and Celtic Thunder don't get more Tv/Radio play here in England

  • lad celtic thunder is a discrase to irish bands every where and i was ashamed to call my self irish when i listened to them sing.

  • I understand what you mean, but music has to change and bands like these are carrying on irish traditional music but suiting it more to todays audience.

The dubliners still own irish music though

  • absolutely the best :-D

    Mon the Kings!

  • I mean if celtic woman and the high kings got together to do a concert. that would be some o' the best music i ever heard.

  • For sure!

  • They already did. The High Kings' debut performance was as the opening act FOR Celtic Woman at Radio City Music Hall in March.

  • Brilliant, Thanks for uploading these videos.

  • fantastic irish quartet!!!

  • Brian Dunphy makes me smile - his joy with what he's doing is contagious!

  • OMg, yes definitely!!

  • All of 'em make me smile but Brian in particular. lol!

  • Very similiar to the great Clancy brothers. Typical of the balleds of the sixties. The great thing about this group is that they will probably casue a resurgence in irish folk music which is what is needed. Sing on lads.

  • Wouldn't it be awesome if Celtic Woman & The High Kings did a gala concert together? Each group doing some of their own songs & some sung by all of them. What do y'all think?

  • The high kings opened for Celtic Woman at radiocity

  • that would be awesome!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorites! I hope they have a version of A Nation Once Again!

  • I think their management will probably keep them away from anything remotely controversial. It is obvious from their performance that they are very carefully stage managed.

  • Fine girl y'are!

  • never have seen anything more exciting!

  • there's nothing like hearing an irish folk song when it's sung the right way, and these guys do it right.

  • AMEN!!!

  • I am trying to find this song by them (or anyone else) on itunes and can't find it. How can I purchase it? What album is it on?

  • ok, I found it by 43 people but not the High Kings....rats.

  • I have not seen it on iTunes, but I ordered the DVD and CD from Amazon. That might help

  • Wow Finbarr really looks like his brother Liam in his Aran sweater and with his guitar.

  • Liam is his uncle, not his brother.

  • Oops haha thats what I meant!

  • this is such fun!

  • irish accents have to be the cutest on earth, match only by aussies.

  • no way!

    the aussies aren't even close!!!

  • i find both aussie and irish accent endlessly amusing

  • Wadyano, I love both accents. Have mates from Oz, but I just can't decide which is my fave. I would sit and listen to either all day though...LOL

  • Oh, that accent..nice song, good level of energy.

  • This alone has made me a fan for life!

  • Agree with you there! Fan for life here!!!! Love this one!!!! Get up and dance!!! Book the flight to Ireland!!!
