Orbiting the planet is easy! You're just doing it wrong, like you says, go around the planet, not through it. you need to aim right for the edge of the planet, go really slow, like almost 0 impulse, and when you get close, a red line appears around the planet edge and a target marker. You just have to aim at the line.
Also, when your missions are coming it too fast, you can fix that by going to credits when ur in the turbo lift, and there are settings for number of missions and events.
Put the shields up...Shields UP!! Fuck this. *theyre firing*, this is bullshit... *they keep firing* stop fucking firing guys!..*keeps firing* fuck you....*he finally fires back* like that you cocksuckers! Wish kirk would do that shit.
I was going to help you on this, but then you started firing on a Miranda Class which is my favorite class...so..
Seriously though, Star Trek:The Game has very little in the way of walkthroughs. retroisland might be your best bet at getting help on this, i see you already commented on his vid.

As a kid the blaring alarm sound when the star fleet logo appeared, always scared me!

I think it may be because if you get hit by a planet, there's rarely time to exchange insurance details - even if it's the planet's fault.

I could never enter orbit either. I'd cut the engines a instant before hitting the planets and still wasn't in transporter range.
I had to hit the planets but after hitting too many your lost the trust of the crew.
If I could get into orbit I could have done hundreds of missions per game.
Also, have you ever tried to fly a shuttle. That was also terrible.
Otherwise top game.

Ha! Imagine, losing the trust of the crew, over something as silly as running into planets! :D
Cheers

Hey, it's Do It To Them Before They Do It To Us, right?? Hahaha.
Someone did offer a solution to me, I've yet to try it out. Cheers though!
