  • Did u see the whittle plane!! So tiny

  • also am boden is der sound langweillig aber so im vorbeiflug ist der sound richtig geil!!!

  • Really Cool Powerful Awesome sound.

  • I am almost considering putting this on my mp3 player so that I can listen to it while I am trying to go to bed. Also, I just started learning to fly a glider and, as if I needed any other reason to want to eventually move up to powered aircraft...

  • The Plane is only as great as the men who flew them.

Dedicated to triple ace "Bud" Anderson

  • Beautiful airplane!

  • The Cadillac of the skies with a heart of pure Rolls-Royce

  • OMG Merlin _Engine sound is the happiest you can experience with your pants on..

  • The merlin engine is such a beast!

  • I have seen this plane flying (international air show). I love that V-12 sound and whistle of centrifugal supercharger!

  • OLD CROW is the best mustang ever!!!!!!!

  • At least a few loyalists remember that the Mustang was a "never could be" until the installation of the Rolls Royce Merlin manufactured and installed by Packard here in the US--not a bad way to produce the preeminent fighter of all time-so when you get those goosebumps just remember that the sound came from a British engine--

  • Just gives me goosebumps !!!!

  • On the first pass you could hear the superchargers whichis that whisteling sound whenit goes pass nice footage

  • thats not the d

  • Thanks! This is great. Thanks for not adding music--I'm always amazed that people add music to their videos--nothing beats the sound of that engine!

  • I love this.

  • Actually it`s a Rolls Royce Merlin with superchargers that and the four blade propeller creates that amazing breathtaking sound!

  • god, it sounds simply heroic.

  • Packard V-1650 based on the Merlin 60 under licence from England's Royals Royce.

  • @twobellz Royals Royce? Haha, Rolls-Royce

  • MERLIN.. best sound in the world!!!

  • Isnt this a RR Merlin engine built under licence by Packard? They have one on display at Duxford

  • Sweet sound!

  • Comment removed

  • Nothing like the sound of a Merlin in the morning!!!!

  • Die klingt richtig Geil!

  • they used those merlins in the old unlimited hydroplane boats, ill never forget the sound. they called em thunder boats for good reason. detroit river has a few sunk merlins on the bottom near bellisle.

  • All Mustangs were powered by Merlins except a very few Allison powered A models. In the US the Merlins were built under a license agreement with Rolls Royce by Packard after a deal for Ford to build them fell through. They were called Packard Merlins.

  • FANTASTIC VID ! FANTASTIC PLANE ! THANX A LOT PADDYPATRONE ! (AND NO F... MUSIC !!!)

  • Look at the size of that supercharger intake :3

  • @strangelogue

    Thats the radiator

  • @strangelogue Actually, the supercharger intake is just below the spinner.

  • Can you imagine a sky full of these Nazi nightmares circa 1944? Makes me hard just thinking about it...

  • The American Spitfire, you know a merlin when you hear one!.

  • i like that plain

  • Packard & Rolls Royce only disagreed over one aspect, Packard wanted to shut the exhaust valve 5 degrees later

  • OMG I LOVE that sound!!! Pure mechanical music!

  • @dondude69 god blesss the roles royse merlin

  • @dondude69 god blesss the roles royse merlin

  • Awesome.

Sounds like a flying Harley Davidson.

  • it is a pachard merlin some number ,, similar to the merlin 66 in horsepower , i have been in this one and only old crow nice aircraft

  • Awesome indeed!

  • GREAT!!!

  • angels over our shoulders

  • Listen... LISTEN! Listen to that beautiful sound of air superiority!

  • THE most Bad Ass fighter EVER. Grand Daddy of the Warthog A-10

These things shot down ME-262 jets AND busted German armor AND looked Cool doing it.

They're beautiful and deadly.I want to love them long time. Oh, Baby!

Bring 'Em Back to help waste The Autonomous Tribal Regions with tactical nukes. Little "love letters, straight to their goatlover hearts".

    No Fukkin' Mercy!

    Victory Roll!

  • @Gmissile ...the A-10 is not a fighter( A for Attack, F for fighter)...and the P-51(P for Pursuit) was in fact aimed to gain superiority in the sky, to neutralize the enemy activity.Against enemy armor...in SPR for sure ;-)

  • @kaa13 ---Thank you. I didn't know that there would be a quiz. As a non-USAF kinda guy (Navy), I used "fighter" loosely and generically. Can you ever forgive me?

What is "SPR"? It's late,I'm tired and can't psych it out.

    RSVP

PS: I still think the P-51D is the most beautiful prop driven aircraft EVER. The old Navy Corsair is also Cool, but comes in at #2.

  • @Gmissile

oops, sorry...did not want to seem pedantic ...!!!

SPR is for "saving private Ryan"...reference to a one of the closing scenes when a wonderful P-51 attacks a german tank...

    cheers.

  • @Gmissile Mustang, without a doubt and of course the Corsair and Spitfire have to tied. It's hard to choose in terms of handsome good looks but the mustang was without question king of sky over Europe and the Pacific. Even taking the jet Messerschmidt into account.

  • Das hätte das Leid der Deutschen und aller anderen Beteiligten nur verlängert.

  • the plane fw190 is the one i like best it so cool

  • man the p-51d mustang was a fast fighter no doubt

  • It was Griffon, not Griffin.

  • Rankings are artificial & dont tell the real story. Spitfire, Hurricane & Mustang were all legends. Hurricane I think had more kills & were made in greater quantities than the Spitfire (easier to make) Spitfire was faster almost as good in a dogfight & used well for moral. Mustang was the newest of the three & could escort a squadren of B17's to the target then defend them against 109's something the other two never had the range to do.

  • I remember reading that they didn't have the advertised range, because they would run off of thier main tanks first to lighten them up in case of a dog fight, then drop thier half empty wing tanks when they got over enemy territory...

  • I love this Bird !

  • P-51 is ranked as the most successful fighter of all time. No doubt :)

  • Thats untreu... that is the Messerschmit or the Spitfire...

  • it is.. like officially

  • Ah whatever, i dont think i find this valuable enough to teach you.

At the end all are wonderfull airplanes and i hope those that are still

    flying, will always do

  • Man, I didn't make the ranking. Just talking about that.

    My favorite fighters are:

    P-47 (USA)

    Spitfire (UK)

    La-7 (URSS)

    BF-109G (Germany)

    A6M5 Zero (Japan)

    Macchi Folgore (Italy)

  • what about focke wulf ? eh ;) but indeed nice planes :)

  • sure that's one of the best fighters of the ww2

Another great fighter was the P-39 Airacobra. doted with an aerodinamic design and a powerful cannon

  • You dont here me say it is not on the list of the best of ww2, but i dont think it's the No.1...

You must also not forget the Focke Wulf was a very inovative design.

  • yeah, but anyway is not easy to say what is the best fighter of the wwII. But the P-51 was fast and maneuverable, well armed and aerodynamic

  • dutchforces, you can check on this ....

but didn't the "inovative design" of the FW-190 lead the U.S to designing the F8F Bearcat?

  • lear your facts right

  • hoolius, I believe you were right the first time - I have read accounts that the 1650-7 did initially have 1,490 hp. It may have upgraded to 1,650 later on.

  • wow

imagine the sound of a cannon on board

    :)

    but.. make peace not war

    user/cveitch

  • 4000th view!

  • oh yes, it definitely had the speed of the Spitfire re840, although the engines were similar Rolls Royce Merlins, it's top speed was 437 mph, about 80 mph faster than the Spit.

  • My mother's uncle fought in Europe, he used to tell us stories when the P-47's and P-51's were called in to lend close air support. Can't imagine what an entire squad on a strafing run would sound like.

  • I bet It would sound awesome!!! Makes you wonder why some film director doesnt include an extended strafing type scene eh? Band of Brothers only included what they call a "beauty Pass" of two Mustangs and Private Ryan only a short clip at the end, but the attack in Empire of the Sun is perhaps the best in recent years.

  • EOTS did have some great Spielberg scenes in it, as you said. "Hart's War" also had a short clip of a 332 FG Mustang bringing down a FW 190 I believe, over a POW camp. Movie starred Bruce Willis.

  • Aye, seen it. Not bad either,

  • Originally the P-51 was regarded as an average fighter, however with the Merlin Engine it became the best Piston fighter of the war.

  • says who?

  • Packard!!!!

  • Packard !!

  • maybe it`s a Packard Merlin , I dont know, but it`s a Merlin ;)

  • Sir, thanks for a beautiful posting with the most glorious aviation sound in the world, (to me, anyway).

  • @PaddyPatrone its a rolls royce merline v12 engine

  • @PaddyPatrone The P-51 D usually used a Packard V-1650-7 liquid-cooled supercharged V-12, 1,490 hp

And the P-51 H usually used a Packard V-1650-9 liquid-cooled supercharged V-12, 1,490 hp, but Rolls Royce, and Pratt & Whitney also made engines for them.

  • @recreatedtiger But 2,200H.P. with water injection in full war emergency hence 487 MPH at 25,000 ft.

  • @paullubliner Really? I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!

  • @recreatedtiger The P51H was already in service in the Aleutians in '45 but didn't see combat. It wasn't deemed necessary in the ETO nor was the B29! No one ever mentions THAT little tid bit. The P51D was successfully tested with a throttleable rocket motor to meet the Me262 on a more equal footing. The H model with that same rocket would have matched the Me262's top speed and totally outmaneuvered it as well! Another "What If" that would have guaranteed the U.S. winning the war in Europe.

  • @PaddyPatrone the P-51 made in Michigan made by Ford used a Packard and i was able to get up close and personal with one able to look at engine and even taxi to runway but then me and pilot switched and he took off

  • @PaddyPatrone Rolls Roye Griffon MK 58 . V-12

  • @Rastamallon Merlin made by Packard by Rolls Roice's license.

  • awesome, thanks for posting.

  • Merlin dumb ass

  • awsome!

  • Merlin or griffin?
