Wish we were back in this time period, where the media was not so sensationalist and you could rely on them for accurate information. Tom Brokaw always pimpin man the BEST!! You dig it?! Fortunately, I still live Carter's inauguration I still live in 1977 man! peace out!
The Duncan Hines commercial was quintessentially 70s (the "hidden camera interview"...they did it for every product: Pepsi, Zest, Imerial Margarine). If that's supposed to be Carol Sanchez's Lemon Supreme Pound Cake, then tell me WHY when she herself tasted it, she acted as though its flavor was revelatory ("Mmm! Tastes terrific!"...what, is she only boasting? It's HER cake!).
Maybe it would have been preferable if the pitchman had asked: "How did you come to CHOOSE your Aspen?"
actually my experience with the Aspen was good - I had a 1976 model that I drove well over 100K before selling it in the mid 80's for $500.00.. the Colt.. that was another story..
This is all good stuff- TV the way it used to be..
Is that guy in the Dodge truck commercial the actor from The Rifleman?!
I was born in 1985 and these commercials seem so weird and foreign to me. No loud music, no CGI, no "we buy gold!"... and they seem so long. Peoples' attention spans have really shortened in the last 30-some years, I guess. They're so fascinating!
@chibicelchan i was born in 1970 and retian very strong memories of the way t.v. was in the 70's (especially the late 70's pop culture stuff) Carter was the first President i remember seeing on t.v. and having a sense of who he was.....lol my family also owned a Dodge Aspen . also i love these 70's clips that include the commercials because its really the best way to get a feel for what it was actually like back then (from a pop culture perspective anyways)
Yes, Carter's presidential inauguration would have been in 1977. However, that second portion that looks like it was taped during The Today Show had to be from 1979. There were promos for both Real People (which premiered in April of that year) and the re-make of Laugh-In, a summer series that year.
I'd rather drive a 33-year-old Aspen today than a brand new Kia off the lot. I have a 2001 Kia, bought new, and the thing is a parts destroying money hungry machine!
My brother has a '03 I believe... and that thing is a piece of crap. I guess they're making them a little better now, but that thing... the engine is lousy, it squeaks all over. He's had it fixed a few times, but its more like a tunacan with wheels (actually a tuna can is probably safer) than an actual car.
Very cool. Thanks for posting this. It's always great to see older inaguration coverage. I wasn't even born yet-of course-when Carter was inaugerated, but have seen many others. It's interesting how different they are...yet how little they change ceremonially.
What's funny, is-in the spectrum of things-that it wasn't that long ago. I think back to when I was a kid (especially when I was 9, 10 etc.) and it seems like yesterday. It seems like ancient history thinking back to when I was real young, however. And trying to imagine the 70's (being way too young to comprehend, & not seeing the transition to the 80's), is crazy as well. Even the tv ads (color, graphics used, jingles) seem
I was born in 1966, and a lot of this stuff doesn't seem too long ago to me. I graduated high school in 1985 and it doesn't seem long ago to me. BTW, our main TV set is a 1982 Zenith, it's been in daily use since we bought it in early 1983, maybe watching the same TV for 27 years helps a bit. B-)
My folks had Zenith tv for years. Those things last forever. I got a Zenith DVD player back in '01 & the things works as well now, as they day I bought it. My folks had a microwave that my grandma gave them for christmas back in '82 or '83. My dad ended up w/ it when they got divorced. He finally had to buy a new one last year. LOL! Things were made better back then. I remember being young & one of our TVS being a Quasar, w/ the big remote (with those side-to-side toggle buttons).

Carter was inaugurated 2 months before I was born. Had I been born just 2 months earlier I would have lived through 7 presidents instead of six.
