  • Immortale...

  • Classic. For me totally awesome. I saw Procol Harum in NYC in 1968, 1969 and in San Francisco in 2005. The interweaving of Gary Brooker's gospel/classical grand piano and Matthew Fisher's serious classical/rock lines underneath Gary Brooker's rich and emotional vocals in this song always makes me feel very happy.

  • sono unici ... emozioni di altri tempi ancora vive ... li ascolto sempre volentieri quell'hammond!!! li accompagna in tutte le loro canzoni , qui poi c' un giro armonico ... braviiiiii

  • One of my favorite PH songs. I know the title is a reference to a hat, but it nonetheless reminds me of one of my favorite German cities. Es geht mir gut!

  • I love homburgers !

  • I like the songs from Procol harun. I remembered a beautiful youth

  • I can't believe Gary Brooker can still hit those high notes!!! Sounds much like the original.

  • Sorry, that's"A whiter shade of pale." missed a key. By the way, the first concert I saw these guys at in 1972 was a landmark. It was the 1st time "Harum" ever played LA in a full fledged concert. The opening act was The Eagles. Take it Easy had been on the charts for about 3 weeks in So. Cal. The show was to begin at 8pm. At about 8:45 The Eagles walked on to a bare stage and took their positions. Glen Frey then said , "Sorry we're late. We were across the street bowling."

  • One of the best bands ever. I saw them live in 1972 and then again in 1974 both times at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Southern California. They were stunning. I sometimes think the band was far too intelligent for the masses. Brilliant music played beyond the pale. God rest you B.J. Wilson. One of the best musicians I ever saw perform. How Ironic today is. I was moving a piano with some friends and one of the guys picked out "A White Shade of Pale" on the board when we were done.

  • this was the follow up single to AWSOP,

and got lost - they play it well,Brooker one of rock's best singers

  • Sounding sharp after all the years!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Gary Brooker; great singer, great songwriter, love his piano; kept the band together for god knows how many years. I first saw them in NYC in 1969. I saw next saw them in 2004 in San Francisco. They were touring for This Well's on Fire. Matthew Fisher was with the band for the album and at the gig. What a wonderful creative B-3 man. Truly a magical band. Whiter Shade of Pale, A Salty Dog, Homburg, She Wandered through the Garden Gate. Ahhhh.

  • He who has an ear, let him hear!!!

  • Somehow, Procol Harum did not get air play

on pop music stations in the 60s Whiter Shade...everyone's favorite "slow song"

caught on, but soon became overplayed. The

same thing happened to Conquistador - it had

a beat people could dance to. It seemed like

songs that had a different type of melody or

rhythm - like Homburg or A Salty Dog were not

    given the recognition they deserved.

  • I agree..was driving back from State College yesterday after bringing my son back to school..and conquistador came on the radio..(with the Edmonton Orchestra)..my girlfriend didn't realize it was live? and was amazed..there were ppl out there that realize how great this band was? I think they should be in the R&R HOF..and they will be someday...such a tight band..with all the qualities of a great band..singing, muscianship..the drummer is friggin great cause this type of music is tough to play

  • Agree with you both. Being a musician myself and a classic rock connoisseur; I'd say Procol is one of the finest bands ever. I have just seen a DVD with them in a 2004 concert, and they are so fucking great! I've rarely seen such unique and beautiful style. I'd strongly recommend the DVD "Live at the Union Chapel"

  • Awesome DVD - no doubt about it. The old footage of BJ Wilson is a treat - that guy was just unique

  • I just learned Homburg and brought the tune to a band that gets together, and everybody loved the tune and was inspired to perform it with emotional zeal, including myself. Gary Brooker had a great sense of melody.

  • Same goes for Whaling Stories...and the entire "In Held Twas in I" Song Cycle!

  • BRAVO !!!!!

  • I agree with MisterNifty...both comments :-)

  • E' una canzone che continua a farmi sognare, dopo tanti anni. E' proprio verochel'amore non ha età.

  • ...sapessi cosa rappresenta per me, che l'ho suonata da giovane centinaia di volte. Tanti ricordi e tanta nostalgia!

  • its fantastic

  • are these guys still going?

  • ever more, for ever!

  • When only thru the needle / The blinking eye can see / And the camel on the pyramid / Sits and dreams of me / Then too we'll lie together / And sift the shiftin sands / To the music of the sunset / The sky an orange band.

  • The idiots talking while these guys perform don't deserve to be listening to their music.

  • While they played, I crying...

  • There are so many hidden elements in Procol Harum's music. The band thought of quality of music not in terms of clarity of distortion, as ELO and Supertramp did, but in terms of incorporating every member's talent way up front in the song. Listen to their music and you will hear both the piano and the organ adding something other than just the typical background. They really were master craftsmen in this regards but one has to know a little about music to appreciate the accomplishment.

  • have nothing to add to that MN...think you pretty much wrapped it up!

  • how can his voice still sound like it did a few lifetimes ago? he's a sublime artist and medical miracle

  • obviously!

  • I thought the same thing - my old LP and cassette tape are worn out - but the voice sounds just like I remember it from 30 or 40 years ago.
