  • 国宝でも良いと思う。

  • Very nice ballet ....Bayadere <<<<<<<<

  • i've always loved this video, it's the light and shade from the cabs to the small grand jete really makes an exciting contrast!

  • @tin4r1.. if you have time try and watch a few other interpretations of "Bronze Idol"most notably the Bolshoi's. Here you have the perfect combination of technical prowess and dramatic content.

  • @tin4r1 you're an Idiot.. or Sciocco as you would say in Italian. I stand by my words.. and yes muppet I danced for 12 years, so I'd say I know a thing or two about technique.

  • Magnifique! Spectaculaire! Mais est ce la vraie variation de Solor? La Danse c'est pas du Cirque.

  • @mrNocco. best dancer in history? You surely can't be serious. As I said ,his port de bras was messy.. and being as short as he is ,he should find it easier to keep everything tighter. The trouble with Japanese and Chinese dancers is that they see ballet as just another form of gymnastics and therefore substitute dramatic content with technical prowess.. yawn!!! the dance world is full of brilliant technicians ..

  • @danbytheriver oh shut up! that guy is a beast, ya not the best ever but still up there in the top ten.

  • @danbytheriver just STFU you don't know anything about ballet!!!!! plus i can bet a lot of money you don't even know how to dance like that so just don't type anything!

  • Wow. It;s lamost like he floats through the air.

  • he's amazing! especially for when this was filmed!

  • Has anybody else noticed that the beats of the cabriolles are so big that they are IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC! That adds an artistic and musical dimension beyond what others are capable of!

  • Awesome double cabrioles, but as mentioned before a tad messy. I would have preferred he kept them tighter and concentrated on his arms for they were truly shocking.. as in "all over the place"Needs to keep it more tight. When you're that short you've got less weight to throw around, however it's not about that . Virtuoso roles he does well, but as a leading man.....nah!!!

  • @danbytheriver the only thing shocking here is you criticizing one of the best dancers in history...

  • WTF...... Nice dance i love it....

  • Wow!

  • his double cabrioles are so big he doesnt even have time to do that grand jete :)

i think the solo is phenomenal but he could neaten it up a bit

better port de bras and more technique

i dont like the way he prepares for his pirouette and the barrels at the back lose ballon cause he thinks we cant see him from the front...a bit lazy lol

  • your observations are right on the money. very astute and constructive.

  • lol,thanx

im sure most male dancers have given this solo a try and knows that its about as hard a solo as they possibly could come.its a lot easier to sit and criticize from behind a computer screen lol

this solo is amazing, but teddy could clean his lines up a bit like carlos acosta does

  • Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do. ~Edgar Degas

    Same goes for dance.

  • of course he is not a brilliant

but he is a good dancer

  • I think that he doesen't have a great body, but have a great tecnique and great jump too,I like him manage and the end...

  • You are judging one of the best male dancer in the World , this film was done in 1991 , and Mr Tetsuya Kumakawa was 19 years old , now he is the director/pioneer of ones of the most prestigious Ballet company in this discipline "" The K-Japan "". Ignorance is not a bliss , sorry !

    Morgan

  • yawn...you dont thnk i knew it was teddy

and i know the pioneers of the company, you dont have to tell me that one...i was there

  • i was only impressed by the cabrioles. everything else was a little sloppy and i dont see any lengthening. his technique isnt good if all he can do is jump high.

  • what? are you kidding? first of all those are THE BEST double cabrioles in history... and three times in a row... his pirouettes? amazing... look at his other videos please....

  • @MrFatality NOW IS AT SECOND PLACE IVAN VASILIEV DID GREATEST.ANYWAY KUMAKAWA IS GREAT

  • @pediatrapaola lol...only in second place?

  • @urranuss hy what happened?l couldn't send message,do you recive now'MY BE THAT YOU EXCLUDED ME FOR MISTAKE?IS YOUR PC OK?

  • @urranuss I TRIED AGAIN TODAY SENDING VMESSAGE YOU DON'T RECIVE,WHAT HAPPENED?DO YOU RECIVE COMMENTS?PLEASE CONFIRM DUE COMMENTS LINE

  • @MrFatality hmmm carlos acosta has better cabrioles , and well i like pretty much estban hernandez pirouettes

  • Where are his legs? Although the video is stretched!

  • oh please... his legs? they are chilling in split for a few seconds in between the first and second part of his double cabrioles...

  • best la bayadere ever

  • men..i want to dance like you!! what a perfect jumps..you are the best dancer i ever seen

  • increible

  • Techincally close to flawless, and lifeless. He's executing steps - his double cabriole is a wonder, elevation the same, but he's a blank slate. Before anyone comes out with a "can you do it better" remark- obviously no I can't. I some pretty mean elevation and some nice allegro in my day, but not anything like this. Just saying that because I do have a ballet background, and I know what's involved.

  • somebody's nitpicking. kumakawa's technically untouchable, and considered one of very few bests, as well, not to mention commercially very successful.

  • ... desperate do show your opinion and "expertise"?

In art, there are no universal truths. It is about pleasing, not one, but many different tastes.

  • If you're referring to me,I'm not "desperate" to show anything. The fact of the matter is that I did have a professional career, and now I have a position as Assistant artistic director with a well known regional company. I have knowledge, and I apply that to my opinions. If you're not interested, just ignore it. If you're uncomfortable, or resentful of that, again, simply ignore it, instead of making snarky, unsubstantiated comments. You're the one who's looking "desperate" not me.

  • Ah yes, I never hinted that he's not "pleasing" to anyone apart from me.That comment in itself is completely irrelevant. In fact in ballet there are some "universal truths" that concern technical abilities. If you're referring to artistic abilities, that involves a different aspect that's subjective.

  • I have nothing more to say Andante735.

  • Very good, niether do I.

  • i have to agree with andante on this one... his technical ablity is a wonder, but look at his face, he looks like a serial killer xD i think this a competition, so it's ok, but if it had beem a performance u really need to present urself in a role like this... But again, i haven't seen anyone do a better double cabriole than him :)

  • It's always nice to have an agreement. He's a technical amazement, but vacant otherwise.

  • your definatly right about the double cabriole

  • how does he beat 2 in the air and still clear that much air

  • Gooosh.. why do my comments not go to the proper stem?

  • i think this variation fine i think your mistaking his ton levees for a very bad grande jete im pretty sure he is sticking to the coreography

  • ı love kumakawa

  • WoW he is certainly a amazing jumper ...awesome

but what would be so great if you took the jumps away?

  • Would he be great if you took the jumps away? That is like asking if Pavarotti would be great without high C's. Or would Hank aaron be great withour home runs.

  • No its not. A great jumper doesn't constitute a great dancer. Pavarotti was not a great singer simply because of his hi C's, nor can you logically compare ANY sport with dance. This variation is awful... where is his grand jete? Where is his port de bras? Where is any kind of artistry potraying himself as a prince? This is a gymnastic solo, not a good ballet variation.

  • I see your points, but this raw athleticism is the type of thing that enthralls a wider audience. The balon makes the variation masculine and princely by default.

Not comparing sport with dance? I disagree. There are myriad parallels. And they should probably test Kumakawa for steroids.

  • This level of assault shouldn't be allowed.

  • Hahahaha hilarious! I think he needs to be tested too lol!

  • Yeah i agree. to me ballet is turning into a sport of golf were everybody ONLY strives for perfection in technique you dont often see many people like margot fonteyn around ...

although he is great and i looove watching him ...i dont think he is suited to ballet he should be in japan doing acrobatic ballet

  • obviously you've never paid any attention to gymnastics...

and i suppose you can do a better ballet solo then eh...

Regardless of what bitter people like yourself have to say , Tetsuya is an amazing talent -

  • I can do it better :)

  • pcorys, please post your "doing better" so we can all decide.

  • Look at the whole body; epaulement, etc. He keeps his positions well, and makes it all work. He isn't trying to make his legs look longer (as Nureyev). The last jump is complex but carefully executed; notice that video does not see much of that jump. I could as easily ask if other dancers, both men and women, actually can dance if they _can't_ jump. Some women never leave the ground on their own. Remember, all the steps lead to the jumps. Yet, I would prefer longer variations for men.

  • Well said.

  • Oooppppsss... my original comment was meant as a reply to bigposercrois's. Yes, all the steps lead to the jumps. Beautifully said. And I desire much more repertories for male dancers as well.

Complain people, only when you are comparable with him.

  • WOW!

  • ive never seen anyone jump as him!! his double cabriolles are incredible!!! i want to be like him :)

  • HE'S PERFECT!!!

  • Thanks!!! The cabrioles and the jetés... it's perfect!

  • look, he's a human being, if he could honor both the jete and cabriole, then he would be superhuman. i have seen no one do a better cabriole. in fact, his cabrioles here arent that amazing compared to what he's done in the past and in rehearsals...he used to do consecutive triple cabrioles. kumakawa is the BEST technician in recent ballet history. altho he may not have necessarily been the BEST dancer.

  • he is one of the best his cabriole is so good that the jete is really only there as a prep. so nobody gives a crap about the jete.

  • He robs the height of the jete in preparation for the height in the double cabriole en l'air, which is beautiful. He has to figure out how to honor both.

  • He's great! Thanks for posting!! Up to my favorites under "balletvideo"

  • pffff c'est un danseur ou un patineur ??

  • esa claro lo que es, amigo.exelente ejecucion

  • el do not dancing japon

  • I think he is no good at all! He certainly jumps high but look how much he shows the effort to go up... That's totally against ballet principles!

  • this is what ballet is about nice to see a MAN deliver for a achange

  • who is he?

  • He is Tetsuya Kumakawa.

  • i grandma has better jetes...but no doubt, hes a technical demon

  • awesome job

  • although his doesn't express anything, he's amazing!!! and technically he's really good

  • WOW! VERY HIGHT JUMP!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its an amazing video but its all about the trix theres no expression watch his balonces, theyre half ass no doubt hes amazing but its boring to me..... sorry

  • But this is just one solo part. If we saw a whole Bayadere show, I'm sure it would be different.

  • so impressed with the cabriole, couldnt the leaps in between have been a little better?

  • Holy cow!!! what elevation!!! How tall is he?
