  • Sorry.. it IS the ONLY version, no other... Cheers Mate, sorry I stuffed up..

  • Awesome.. takes me back 44yrs, great version, Thanks Mate.

  • Lurch would love this song.

  • This is pretty awesome ^^ so is the Prisoner theme ^^

  • I had never heard this theme until the last month, when someone posted a Danger Man episode to YouTube. And I immediately had to have it; it's incredible, so much more energy and menace than the tune the USA associates with the show, Johnny Rivers' "Secret Agent Man". Found it on a Italian import cd, with some other music from the show.

  • @gomro Fortunately, in Canada, we got to see "Danger Man" as he was meant to be packaged. Not that I don't like Johnny Rivers, but "Secret Agent Man" is a puerile embarrassment compared to Edwin Astley's original theme.

  • An absolutely fantastic tune

  • Once again, inventive melody and new electric sounds for that time ! Pleasant and creative.

  • Fantastic.*****.

  • This IS the definitive theme.....ironically I too was watching it aged 7 in 1965 when it first came out.......but with my grandmother too.....in Aston, Herts

  • @truro007 cute use of the harpsichord baldwin made an electric one i dont think it was available yet the moody blues and deep purple used it

  • For me it is the best version because it is how I remembered it watching with with my grandmother who oggled McGoohans eyes (bit sick for a 9 year old :)))). A lot of 60's theme tunes had a coolness about them which you kind of didn't get as a child but now they mark a quality time and place in ones memory which is rarely matched with reinterpretations.

  • All the versions that I listened to previously to hearing this, rang "untrue" in my mind. THIS is how the theme should sound, as it came with the original tv programme. I remember the theme well, as it was the first time I had ever heard, or heard of, a harpsichord. Thank you for posting this!

  • Yep.Well done.

  • The original and best version as used on tv!

    Well done, Sid.

  • This brings back fond memories!

  • fantastic !!!

  • Thanks for uploading this superb theme, 40+ years on it remains one of the finest tv themes of all time. The series was captivating, well written, produced & acted. Has it ever been rerun in recent years in the UK?

  • Thanks for your help, I'm a Celbrity background music on 28 Nov to some spy tasks was distinctly familiar and now I know that it was indeed Danger Man. Excellent!

  • Rememberings, rememberings, this Music will stay in our minds, in our ears, for ever. Genius sound by Edwin Astley, one of the best 60's TV series with Patrick McGoohan. What a funny time !

  • great version, a travel in time...

  • Here's a bit of personal trivia for ya (and a warning to parents!) I was a baby when this show was on TV. I mean just a few months old, and I remembered this song. I never associated it with "Secret Agent Man" which had that catchy Johnny Rivers Tune (later 60's). It wasn't until a year ago I saw Danger Man here on YouTube, heard the music and BOOM! it all came back to me! See, babies DO remember! Thanx for uploading!

  • Danger Man was a 30min. show that was shown on CBS in 1961 and Secret Agent was the expanded hour long version that was shown on CBS in 1965-66. Both version were shown in England long before being shown in the U.S. when the Secret Agent Man theme was added.

  • In the U.S., the harp at the beginning of this music was heard in the background while a network announcer intobned " 'Secret Agent' (the U.S. title) is brought to you by...".

An edited (and slightly different) version of the rest of this song is heard with the episode-opening credits (Produced By, Written By, etc.) in each episode.

In North America, the theme music for the hour-long episodes was "Secret Agent Man", sung by Johnny Rivers.

  • I remember this music when I have 6 or 7 years old. Nostalgie....

  • They should bring this show back. Daimen Lewis who played Major Winters in Band of Brothers would make a good stand in for McGoohan as John Drake

  • Edwin Astley .A musical Genius, and sadly missed

  • very good

  • ....forever ...forever in our hearts.......

  • The most exciting TV theme ever along with the ultimate spy TV programme. John Drake could outwit James Bond any day.

  • Whenever they make a single out of a tv theme it's never the same nor as good as the one on tv ! this , Hawaii five-o , Rockford files etc...

  • what a classic from the60s,the decade that spawned the best tv themes we are ever likely to see, great post thanks,

  • did we have a damn fine time? oath we did! thanks patrick Mcgoohan and friends.

  • Again and again, this theme is one of my favorite for TV series. After these of 60's , most were inspired and only refelected these real creations. Love it.

  • brilliant-that vinyls in good nick too-bravo!

  • Excellent! great electric harpsicord, mad drummin, its got everything. Fantastic pace.

    The best version.

  • I'm pretty sure this is actually an acoustic harpsichord - A Neupert if I'm not mistaken! Makes it all the more awesome :)

  • I like the frantic drumming. The Brits OWNED spy themes in the 1960's... John Barry, the Avengers, the Saint, the Persuaders, etc.

  • And the Prisoner,1967. The best intro in TV history.
