i think the modern paradigm of being mentally "handicapped" is a bit on the flip-side. most people with autism from what i have researched are not handicapped in any sense of the word but simply different. clearly if a person can do something as amazing as this guy - he isn't handicapped at all, blessed if anything. But usually recalling a memory is like thinking of a key memory that you can recall at all times, then a chain reaction of memories occurs, filling your consciousness until the one memory you wanted to recall is remembered. this rainman guy probably stores a key memory every 10 seconds or something.
