@matomanci lool, guys saying that bullshit like ''i have 20 super cars'' or '' i drive a sls and you drive a lupo'', are probably the ones that drive shit cars LOOL
The E250 CDI is a 4-cylinder, makes a lot more noise then the E350 CDI and sounds way more "raw". Because of the 5-gears, it usually revs higher and thus increasing the sound levels + increased fuel consumption.
To answer your question, yes, the E-class certainly needs a 7th gear.
@guitigefilmpjes Yeah I wouldn't say Mercedes 4 cylinders were the best most refined engines I've come across either. I drove a lot of C180's and C180K's which were 1.6's with superchargers. They always sound dreadfully very raucous and tappety like an old 8 valve Vauxhall engine. I was very disappointed by their 4 cylinder engines but the 5 and 6 cylinders are much better with smoothness and refinement. They are a totally different ball game to 4 pots.
For the first 1,000-1,500miles for gas vehicles and 3,500-7,000miles for a CDI/BlueTec vehicles. Go easy on the engine. No engine speeds (rpm) over 4,500rpm. Keep the car speed under 80mph or 145k/hr. This will give the seals to set a for the oil to lube every part of the engine.
A don't use the cruise control while breaking the car in.
Also for the first 500 try to avoid hard/harsh braking. This will allow the pads to set correctly.
When we picked up our E-320 from the Factory we were told just go easy for the first 1000miles or so, but we only made it to 800miles. (Got on the Autobahn one day and couldn't resist)

nowadays the owners' manuals recommend that the first 2000km (1250 mls) should be driven with no worries (i mean with no major accelerations and decel), and that the rpms should be kept steady (recommended no to go above 3500 rpm on diesels and 4500 on petrols). cruise control is a great way to maintain rpm.
men, the car goes from 230 km/h to 255 km/h with slow speed... It's state or you accelerate without full throttle?

The E250 CDI has a more characterful engine with its twin turbos but doesn't have a 7th gear...does a the e-class even need a 7th gear?

Da wünscht man sich dann eine angenehme Reiselimousine.

Did you break it in first, before doing these "Flatout" runs?
bryanb16th 2 years ago
I'm not sure what you mean by that, but the car had already done 3500 kilometers before these runs.
guitigefilmpjes 2 years ago
Breaking in a car means:
For the first 1,000-1,500miles for gas vehicles and 3,500-7,000miles for a CDI/BlueTec vehicles. Go easy on the engine. No engine speeds (rpm) over 4,500rpm. Keep the car speed under 80mph or 145k/hr. This will give the seals to set a for the oil to lube every part of the engine.
A don't use the cruise control while breaking the car in.
Also for the first 500 try to avoid hard/harsh braking. This will allow the pads to set correctly.
bryanb16th 2 years ago 2
Well, I did not break it in first, but today's car (at least in Europe) only need 1000 Miles, at least that what it says in the book.
I talked to a BMW engineer once, and he told me that today's engine's do not need to have a break in period anymore, although it is recommended.
guitigefilmpjes 2 years ago
