  • hate the rapper but dan is awesome

  • probably the best collaboration i've heard. Simple Genius

  • Love it!

  • Mike Tyson can sing? Wooaoo! Ok kiddin' cool shit

  • What kinda mic does mos def have in his hand the entire time? Whatever the hell it is it's awesome.

  • @biscut75 I know! Looks like that he's just broke the reciever off a public phone.

  • this is REAL MUSIC.

  • @meliisssaaaa : EXACTLY !

  • @ak231510

What the hell can you do? Can you even play an instrument or write one line in a song? You can't judge all rappers that way. There are a lot more of them out there that are actually very artistic with their craft. You should check em out

  • Tags? wheres the most important part? this wouldn't be a song without the black keys, what if they had to use like red hot chillipeppers or modest mouse?

wouldn't be the same, Dan is the only white guy that is 100% black.

  • I can't believe i haven't heard The Black Keys until now!!! I will definitely need to abroad my genre of music.. Most Def...rap needs to bring it to a new level!!!

    echopark22

  • Mad Album........Gotta luv it :)

  • idk bout you but dan sure knows to make lalala stick in your head. black keys are the shiit

  • 1:38 to discover the playback

  • they must be really bad a lipsynching/ playing their instruments

  • Mos Def IS da man

  • omg is that....is that bass with the black keys?!?!?!

  • Going swimmingly till the rapper starts moaning about crap, and hey it becomes another headache tune, with his moaning about shite..

  • you can tell they were kinda nervous to preform this live. they did a great job though. awesome song.

  • REAL ROCK // REAL HIPHOP

  • Could the Black Keys be any more bad ass? Mos Def is s TITAN in the hip hop world, if you can get him to work with you as a rock group, you've got some fucking chops.

  • what kinda mic is that?

  • @irap4nofee

    Traditional blues, with hip hop.

  • @rekke41

i asked what kinda mic, not what kinda music.

  • 7 people weren't hugged enough as children. :(

  • dan auerbach is a musical genius!

  • jim jone eat mic!!

  • if they WERE lip-synching, they would be the worst lip-synchers of all time.

  • @TaffyRaphie its just a bad synch of audio and video from whoever posted the vid

  • This is amazing! Mos & The Black Keys, two of my loves together = ^_^

  • man i'd love to have The Black Keys do another Blakroc album with kid cudi

  • @enthnd03 wwooowww imagine the vocals and instrumentals on thaaat!!!

  • @enthnd03 Kid cudi aint got no steelo that all the rappers have on this album. this album is way to tough to even think about putting new jacks like kid cudi.

  • got more respect for jim

  • @midget6mafia came a long way from ballin right

  • @r3d3mpt10n666 The Black Keys, dipshit.

  • @curry136 please die as painfull as it can

  • Blakroc has made me fall in love with hip hop again. I thought my first love would never return.

  • greatness kid......@curry136

  • @curry136 thats what real music sounds like

  • @curry136 your listening to too much beiber and lil wayne if your calling this shit

  • Mos Def is the ultimate!! New Blakroc album please

  • @dickmaguffin I 2nd That

  • mos shouldve sang the hook AND spat the verses

  • this is one of the greatest Hip-Hop records to come along in a long time!!!!! every song is great!!!! i hope the Black Keys do another one of these!!!!!

  • Excellent collaboration!!!! So sick of the hard core rapping with all that sampling and weird noises played over and over. THIS IS indeed the infusion rap needs to bring it to a new level.

  • @Qwazier3 I don't want to start a battle over hip hop or anything but I just want to know what you have against the sampling aspect of the genre?

  • @guitarbaby008 Uh, cause they r taking and using music they didnt create. They have to call it sampling because if they called it stealing they probably couldn't get away with it. I still remember sean combs(no i'm not calling him by his ridiculous rap names) sampled a led zepplin riff for a crappy song he made for the godzilla soundtrack. They take a great rock riff and then bastardize it for a horrible rap song. Stop creating music with a computer, learn an instrument and make music yourself.

  • @ak231510 wow you really dont like HIP HOP do you? sampling has been apart of the music since it's birth like the Amen Break and vocal sample from James Brown. The pioneers of HIP HOP didnt think they were stealing in their minds they were using sounds that appealed to them in a new and fresh way. sampling wasnt a problem until HIP HOP took off like it did and the producers and mc's that rapped over those sampled tracks made money and the original artist got nothing. but now adays if a producer

  • @ak231510 uses a piece of anothers artist music they have to get it cleared by that artist and the original artist also gets royalties from any moneys made from that track. sampling has come a long way from basement and beat machines and is now and art form itself. btw artist like ryan leslie the black eyed peas and pharrell all play ACTUAL instruments and make or have made HIP HOP music.

  • @ak231510 so what about rock groups that remake/cover other group's songs? that happens all the time and nobody says shit..

  • @veksink the optimal word there is cover They are making no claims to it being an original work. When a rock group covers some1 its always stated, black keys - have love will travel (stooges cover) there is credit & respect given. Sampling doesnt publicly acknowledge credit to the orginal, which allows the masses to assume its their own work. And a cover song is never trying to be an original, if a rock group tired to use someones melodies or riffs on there own songs they would be sued

  • @ak231510 sorry but you're wrong, whenever someone samples something it's acknowledged in the linear notes, along with the producer, writer so on and so forth, and not every cover/remake states it in the title of the song as you claim, there are plenty of remakes/covers that become so much more popular then the original that a lot of people don't even know there is an original...

  • @veksink yeah they acknowledge it in the fine print that no one reads. Covers are not trying to hide something, unless you are stupid or do not pay attention at all, you always no when its a cover, and like I said, if a rock group reused someones music, it does not matter if they credit them in the album cover, its plagarism, but not with sampling for some reason. I know rappers sux at making music, but come on, atleast make ur shitty music legitimately

  • does anyone know what kind of microphone mos def is using?

  • I will write lyrics and just say them in monotone

lack of enthusiasm is the only thing I've really shown

This track was really flowing until I started my crap rap

underneath my backwards cap lies a mountain shit shat

    ~Jim Jones

  • thats hip hop you can listen to!

  • The Black Keys & Mos Def KILL IT!! But there's nothing new about that... they've always been fantastic!

  • alright ive listened the shit out of blakroc, and i need something new but like similar. someone message me or reply to this comment with the best hip hop music u knoww

  • @mikyonmars I've heard the Black Keys say they are going to do another Blakroc album :)

  • Comment removed

  • if you love the black keys, listen Marvin Green.

  • cant say i give a shit for jim jones but damn the keys are fuckin rippin it

  • jim jones ruined the fucking day..........

  • Thank you Black Keys and Dash for attempting to steer Hip-Hop into the light. This track is just short of epic, Jim Jones?? Lupe would of been much more suitable. None the less, hopefully we'll be hearing more hip hop that sounds like this and less like fuckin Lil wayne or whatever new toxic bile they play on your local "Hip-Hop" station.

  • jim jones..good lyrics but lacks passion. mos def + black keys kill this track.

  • damn this quality is shitty.

  • jim jones. GET. THE. FUCK. OUT!

  • @zachbdude He may be 'gangsta' but the shit he is saying actually relates to what the album was about, and what the artists involved wanted. It's a collaboration, not a mash up, and if nobody involved didn't want Jim Jones, he wouldn't be there.

  • @BizzyBoxx well, i didnt say his part doesnt make sense. i didnt say nobody making the CD liked it. i prefer the song without him, along with alot of other people.

  • three people need to die. this is pretty amazing if i do say so. except for jim jones hes lame.

  • @idadickman jim jones is surprisngly good....have you heard his first album- On My Way to Church? check it out

  • sweet quality....

  • YOU GOT THAT RIGHT MEMPHIS AND DON'T FORGET THEM SISSY ASS HIP HOP

  • dont sleep on dame dash! dude is a genius!

  • genius!!!!!

  • this was actually pretty touching, i've heard the song, dug it already, but seeing this collective in action is so dope. is how the arts should really progress.

  • It's not the first thing you think of when you think fantastic musical performances, but Letterman at Radio City Hall have featured some of the best live acts I've seen.

  • Thank you for posting this! as soon as I found out about it I picked up the cd. I wish I would have known about this sooner!

  • so sick. sucks the sound is off.

  • what kind of drum set is patrick using? Ludwig?

  • @PaintedSidewalk Yes; it's a ludwig.

  • I cant believe that reviews on this album were only so so..maybe some of the emcees? I mean there were great ones but they might not have had a whole track (Q-Tip//Monch)..the world was not ready for blakroc either way..the second album will be even better

  • @DBprep8 that is always the response with something that is prolific....its above their radar, thats why we are stuck with a bunch of bullshit that opens huge cause mediocrity sells to the masses, its happened over and over and over and over and over and over.

  • if you go to their site they have a ton of videos from their studio sessions. good stuff.

  • This is a good look. Hip hop needs some new/next level shit. Reminds me of the blues baby!!!! Music coming full circle!!

  • none of this is lip-synched you tools. the audio track is way off.

  • @Antihobo71 yeahh haha unless they think letterman lipsyncing too lmao

  • @Antihobo71 yeahh haha unless they think letterman lipsynching too lmao

  • @Antihobo71 they pre-record in all these shows... but its still awesome

  • total sickness

  • dan sucks at lip synching.

  • @MDTGM

Maybe he's not lip-synching at all, I doubt he is. I think the audio/video sync is just off.

  • @MDTGM there is no lip syching, its just the audio that is out of synch with the video

  • fuck david letterman wow, he just repeats mos defs name and stands infront of dan during the outro. Thats such a dick move.

  • Naw the audio is off on the video. The actual video is online somewhere.

  • maaan jones is definitely syncing hahaha

  • am'i confused or Jim does a 'lip rap' ??

his mic seems to be muted, several times his mouth moves but is not synchronized with what we hear !

    plus his sound his much better than mos's, like it's from a studio recording;

i can't believe he doens't know his verses so they had to use his recorded voice ????

great song, great collabo, great lp, in my opinion

  • @fingerslicking hmmm... im pretty darn sure that the entire audio is off... good idea though!

  • @fingerslicking Does seem like he's lip synching, yeah. Mos is impressive as ever, must admit I'd never heard of this album. :o

  • @jwfeatherstone its by The Black Keys. they wanted to do something different and invited a slew of hip hoppers to rap over some instrumentals they were coming out with. (i guess they had written more then they knew what to do with haha) so 11 months later the super group rock rap fusion band BlakRoc become real.

  • Hip hop and blues rock work so incredibly well together here.

  • @Nanomachinist rhythm and blues? you mean?

  • haha check the facial expression when he mentions sellin 'caine

  • check the facial expression when he talks about sellin 'caine haha

  • yes!!! I am in love with real roots music like this!!!!

  • @beautyfullone01 the roots suck

  • @1000rtodd you suck.

  • @blackmoon719 wow, so witty

  • Hip hop with live instruments is awesome (when done well)... just look at The Roots.

  • This is hype.

  • mos def in the led zeppelin moment i reckon sittin there holding the mic like that seems real zeppy :S

  • best shit ever! Jimmy shows he can spit on anything!

  • you can spit on anything i seen emcees spit on opera boom! take that with you

  • I like this slow... rocks out.

  • In times of Lady-Gaga-and-Kesha-crap-music and all that "blablabla" lyrics i´ve never expected to hear real music ever again.......but thank god there are people who understand what real music is!!! i f**king love the black keys!!!

  • i hate youtube lag.

  • this is oddateee i never liked jim unill this project ,,jim came out with raw material, mos def keeps on rockin hands down ,,underground for life ,,,,,i dont sell thousands of records ,but artists like this make me belive it still lives,,,,ODDATEEE 1973 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT LP OUTSOON,,,THANKS TO ARTIST LIKE THIS THANK YOU DAME,,U STEPPED IT UP THIS I BETTER THAN THE ROC OLD SHIT,,,,MADDD RESPECT,,,,,,ODDATEEE

  • should speed a up the tempo a lil bit

  • real fuckin music

  • Stop hatin on Jones, he goes hard on this.

  • This is really good yo. And btw whats with the mic mos def is using? Looks weird, anyone know what mic it is?

  • bit more rehearsal and they will own.

  • rap live has always lacked musicians its one thing to make something in the studio but live with just a dj very hard to not come off like millivanilli there are exceptions and there is a feel you can get without musicians but i think this vid just showcases what you could do. it's just my opinion as a drummer there is nothing like a nice live break-beat that just inspires one to start rappin and movin

  • Jim... if he wrote this... i swear i give him props. Either way Mos Def is always classy with his. This was eloquent in every way. I hope to hear more hip hop like this.

  • Unlike alot of you I never really got into hip hop and am more of a Black Keys fan, but this just blew me away. And I don't know why everyone is badmouthing Jim Jones, he and other rappers involved in this project seem to have what most rappers sorely fucking need.

  • @GeorgeTheBass

"Unlike alot of you I never really got into hip hop and am more of a Black Keys fan"

"I don't know why everyone is badmouthing Jim Jones"

If you were a true fan of hip hop like I am, you would understand why hahaa. Only reason he is on this project is cuz dame. but i do have to say, he has went up a lil bit on my list of garbage rappers (because of blackroc)

  • @GeorgeTheBass a lot of his songs stink and I mean badly, Back when he was in the rap group Dipset they didn't let him speak for a reason.

  • the only time, ive ever had any respect for anything jim jones has done..ever, but the keys an mos of course are always legit

  • I love hip hop and never recognized jim jones as such....but this.. left my jaw dropped.. I actually listened to some dipset albums and i kinda feel some shit. Jim jones by himself is a-ok in my book.. makes me kinda feel sad for being a underground kinda snob. Glad to know some cats do keep it real, and still keep true hip hop alive. But that's what hip hop is about... keep your eyes open. Talent is talent, Respect.

  • gotta give props to jim he was sick on this

  • I don't think this project was promoted properly because for the obvious reasons...the beast is still trying to erase African ppl when it comes to rock music. Hip hop is the new rock and it's going to morph into so many things...hip hop is already multi-dimensional!! What did you expect it to do...that's evolution!!

  • man thats exactly wht i was thinkin when i first bought the album, this is some REAL HIPHOP mixed with rock. ppl are gonna buy that shitty rebirth album when it is inferior to this. this album can change hiphop. This was not promoted correctly, totally agree

  • yeahh.. finally i found some people that know what real music sounds like. the black keys beats really compliment this shit.

  • Any rap with real instruments always kills other rap. The Roots, POS, Digable Planets, etc. We need more rap with real instruments. And less rapping about "me" and "what I got" and "all the pussy I get" shit.

  • @HeyJaw I bet youre a Beastie Boys fan. No one does it better then they do.

  • @johnnygoldenkey Beasties are legendary. Few can compare.

  • this is what hip-hop needs. stupid gangsta rappers are killing the whole game.

  • @memphis0o yeah but jim jones is one of them.

  • @MrMrdswoods I have no idea what you are talking about, you think weezy gaga and beiber are good? im confused.

  • @memphis0o ---You're nuts. this shows versatility. this song actually slams and the rap goes well. I like a ton of different music, rap, rock, punk, funk, chicago house, jazz and this is great. Just found out Black Keys even did this so I looked it up on youtube and it's better then I expected. A treat to see Mos Def singing.

  • respect I waited for it long time

  • This is so sick.

  • NICE!! a breath of fresh air!!

  • The Black Keys are foremost a rock band, live performances can end up dropping or adding bars, I think it threw Mos Def off a bit.

Jim Jones does add a gritty edge even if he Isn't the brightest on the mic.

  • Mos Def kills it....but wh yJim Jones....he isn't terrible by any means but he has such a lack of presents on hthe mic..give me someone like Guilty Simpson instead...

  • jim ripped it he smashed that shit tru he aint the best emcee but he got that gritty feel wich works for the music

  • I know jim jones isnt ur rapper's rapper but he did his thing on this track. Personally i dont fuck wit him but he killed it tho. I believe when there is a instrumental that is special even the worst rapper feels like if he doesnt spit good lyrics it's kinda disrespectful 2 the beat. Big ups 2 jimmy jones

  • They let it drag a lil bit. And something went wrong. Is the sync messed up? Yeh, the audio is definitely ahead of the video.

  • iTotally agree, iThink Mos was expecting it to pick up too and be just like it was in the studio, but it didn't.

Still think their work is genius tho.

  • I was watching this when it was on TV and I had never heard of this album...I did a double take when I heard "BlakRoc featuring the Black Keys with Mos Def and Jim Jones." This is a bizarre lineup, but with those names you know it'll be good, and sure enough it kills.

  • Even live they kill it. The lag on this video is fuckin' unbelievable though (haha). I was baked when I watched this live and was like "ga'dam, someone got it right finally". Jim Jones, man, dude is sic. Mos Def, man, dude is sic. Black Keys, man, them dudes is sic. I'm ready for album #2 already. That RZA track is hot too. Well, all the tracks on the record is hot. Mad props to BlakRoc

  • looks like a lip sync at 3:18
