Stan Kenton epitomized what was referred to as the West Coast Jazz, my father was a big fan of Kenton, I have several of my fathers original recordings of Kenton, one that was recorded here at the Earle Theater in Philadelphia.
The band at this point included trumpeter Karl George (solo near start) and drummer Jesse Price, who both also spent time in Count Basie's band around this period. This song was written by Skeets Tolbert, who recorded it for Decca with his Louis-Jordan-like little band in '42.
Hadn't heard this one before! Anita was certainly a distinctive stylist and important part of the era.
