Con'd: Ian Richardson played this role to perfection because of his years of experience and classical training. And the gift of speach his was born with. I'm still amazed watching him act this role. The asides, all of it. I'm sorry I never saw anything else he did all those years before I was born.
Lillian Gish was interviewed by Dick Cavet years ago and asked of Faye Donaways performance in Mommy Dearest. She said,"F.D. Diddnt act like Joan Crawford, Faye Donaway CHANNELED Joan Crawford. I.R. Had to wAit his whole life to play this glorious part.
As an American I identify with old Hollywood. The wonderful series was like an old movie. It was captivating. The backrounds filled with antiques and beautiful interiors. I.R's clothes seemed impecable. The music, the lighting, this Actor. I saw it all as modern Shakespeare. And there was high camp too which is always fun. R.I.P.
All those Daimlers make it look like a big funeral procession. Nice cars but I don't think politicians have ridden in them for decades. In fact did they ever? Wasn't it just the Royals who used them, while ministers used Rovers and Jags?
This Francis Urquhart chacter is rather interesting. He reminds me of the Master under the guise of Harold Saxon in Doctor Who. Both evil manipulative backstabbing politicians. Urquhart even says the word utopia during one of his speeches! I was particularly reminded of the Master when he said that.
Sure, I know that. I was just particularly reminded of the Master when Urquhart said utopia because there was an episode of Doctor Who with the Master entitled 'Utopia'.
Can anyone tell me where I can download an mp3 of the theme tune to House of Cards? I know it's composed by Jim Parker, and it's possibly called Francis Urquhart's March, but I'm not certain about that. I can't find it anywhere so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Beautiful. Been looking for this ever since my old VHS thingy went all threadbare. I love the shot where all the parliamentary sheep are walking up the stairs as FU's predatory hand is on the rail in the foreground.
Ah, Manchester Town Hall. I've spent several amusing election nights there! Nice place; doesn't look much like the Palace of Westminster, though.

Good old Urquhart, always polite, always a smile and a pat on the back...right before he sticks a knife in it.

You do know the word "utopia" didn't originate with Dr Who, right?

I know they released it on DVD in Australia. Even has commentary with Ian Richardson for the first episode of every series.
