I read an article awhile back where Josh actually said that they had them lip sync in this performance due to different factors. I think it was with EW or something. You can look it up.
I should point out that I am a huge Josh fan, so I don't like to think of him lip syncing. However, I also read somewhere where he said this is the only time he has lip synced, if that makes anyone feel better. It does me at least. :)
There are many reasons why "live" performances are lip-synched; Most are production-oriented, as live sound can be rather tricky to control. Also, pressure to make each "performance" perfect, as it is considered "entertainment", and nothing but the best will do. However, far too much is because the performance cannot be consistently duplicated, due to lack of talent (see boy bands,Britney, etc.). And to think: Pink Floyd and Queen had to disclose the use of tapes. Sheesh ! These 2 are great !!!
If they are lip-syncing, it's because it's too cold for them to be singing for real. Have you ever watched the macy's thanksgiving day parade? all of the people that sing in that are lip syncing because its too cold to actually sing. I forget why but it's bad for your vocal chords to sing in the cold or something like that.
i'm personally against lip-synching, but i've sung along to josh and charlotte's version of the prayer to know that it is the track and not live. it's hard to sing the same thing twice in the same (exact) way.
The ice skating couple were incredible..romantic...tender..lifts...so lovely...this song is a very important song to me with Josh and Charlotte..it was the last coreography that i danced to to before i got injured..I can't dance like i used to but I can walk and even exercise...dancing to that song will always be a lovely memory for me.
I loved the ice skating couple! Very sorry to hear you were injured but I'm happy that you have such a lovely memory of having danced to such a beautiful song.
It was mimed, play a CD of the original version in the background, and this video - no differences at all, synched perfectly with CD - it also helps when you had rellies working on the sound team in the stadium too ;)
i think if Sandi Patty will going to sing this song and larnell its more striking and fabulous....their not just a performer they are worshiper while singing....
what are you talking about?! it is live.. becaue it is very very possible to set up a sound system for a place like that.. aren't you aware of the technology that we have? maybe you are from the 15th century... helloo?? forgive me for saying this but before posting a comment, make sure you have the right facts..
AAHH! i was there. it was the COOLEST experience ever to go to the closing ceremonies! I was sitting at the same end that Josh and Charlotte were facing while they sang, like 20 rows up. This is when i fell in love with Josh!! :) Thanks for posting!
definately lip synched because every inflection, everynote is identical. No one sings the same song, the same way twice, NO one. They always sing it differently. The same with LeAnn Rimes when she sang "Light the fire within" at the opening ceremonies.
Not Lip synched doesn't matter if you hear it on the cd or play the clip back to back Josh Groban sounds pretty much the same whether live or recorded. The only that probably wasn't there was the band.
Yeah it is lip synched. I played this "live" version and the studio version at the same time and it's exactly the same! Every single note, vibration etc.
i remember watching this when it was on tv!! they both did wonderful... i love josh. he's my husband... REALLY! haha... and charlotte... well, she used to be my sister... but no one's supposed to know that... especially her. =)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Sounds like composers have forgotten how to write beautiful melodies.

I do think it is lip synched, simply because setting up the sound system for a place like that would be incredibly difficult.

Josh Groban is basically just flawless. It's not lip synched. Again, people just don't want to accept the fact that he's pitch-perfect all the time.
