  • This is really great!

  • 1: The pianist is Ralph Berkowitz, not Emmanuel Bay. Ralph Berkowitz, who died in August of 2011 at age 100, was Piatigorsky's regular accompanists for many years, as well as a faculty member at Curtis and Tanglewood.

2: I don't understand how anyone could "dislike" this transcendentally sublime performance. String playing simply doesn't get any better than this. Sadly, I've come to expect the Youtube audience to include a fair number of ignoramuses.

  • How could that be if you are 25 according to your Channel profile?

  • زیباترین . و باز هم زیباترین............

  • what movie was this from?

  • @cellolove7 This came from the "Heifetz and Piatigorsky" DVD. The footage was shot in 1953 (I believe) and was supposed to be made into a movie short which featured Artur Rubinstein, Jascha Heifetz, and Mr. Piatigorsky. Unfortunately, much of it never made it to the theaters. Fortunately for us, the film was saved and is available on DVD and here on YouTube.

  • Wagner might have also added on "except the jews"

  • Wonderful, its just so perfect!

  • Elegance and ghostly, ethereal images seem to drift out of this music. As Wagner said, there are no words for this.

It is simply perfect.... human perfection.

  • es una pelicula???

  • could you please also send me the sheet music for the cello and piano accompanient please? my brother plays the cello and i play the piano and my parents would love it if we got to play this together

  • Does anyone know which movie this was taped for?

  • Anyone knows where to purchase the sheet music? Cello and piano accompaniment parts?

  • I could send you the music. DL

  • Yes, thanks!

  • Beautiful playing of rare poetry and elegance.

  • which waltz is this?

  • It's a famous Sentimental Waltz by Tchaikovsky, there are lots of arrangements of it. It's in E-minor. Hope this helps!

  • What is this from?

  • Piatigorsky was a great musician and his tone reminds me of Maple Syrup DARK, SWEET AND RARE.

    Thank you for this video.

  • You're welcome, thanks for enjoying before they make me take it down.

  • The pianist is Ralph Berkowitz, who was Piatigorsky's accompanist from about 1940 until his death (and he's mentioned in the film). The film was made around 1950. Mr. Berkowitz is still with us at 97, and he still plays and teaches.

  • Im pleying this, its really beautiful, ansd at the same time sad : (

  • Are you sure that is Emanuel Bay at the Piano? It does not look like him.

  • Piatigorsky was more than just a magnificent cellist; he was a marvelous person. I had the pleasure of studying with him.

  • @werty1779 How old are you?

  • Thank you SO much for all the Piatigorsky videos! My teacher (a graduate of Curtis and Juilliard) greatly admired Piatigorsky and recommended that I watch and listen to him play.

  • You're very welcome! Sorry I don't have more to share with you.

  • I prefer Aaron Rosand's performance on violin on youtube

  • He was really a remarkable person.
