It's not called the Triboro anymore, it's known as the Kennedy && Whoa when tolls were only 2.50 hahaha. Also all those signs on 95 under the apartments are gone.
As far as I know that's especially an issue in New York City, the last major road investments in the NYC area were in the 1970's if I remember correctly. The Robert Moses era was mostly an automobile-era, while they reversed that policy 180 degrees afterwards, hence NYC is far more congested than most other U.S. cities.
These roads were built decades ago and are now in some of the most densely populated areas of the United States. Widening, improving, etc would displace thousands of residents and cost billions. Innovation is fine but who's gonna pay for it?
