  • I love that you're an Aussie. Awesome when Aussies get out there and show 'em how. Love the work as well, Mate.

And why is it dickheads got to hound a bloke about the friggin' music? This wasn't even too bad. Don't they realize, some people will always love it, some will always hate it! Doesn't matter what music you play, or what you paint, it'll never please anyone.

So people out there, grow some manners.

  • Hey CA73/Gary:

Is there any something else that can be used besides, BITUMEN?

    Your Canadian friend, Willow

  • Lol this is an interesting video.. I just don't quite understand the point of painting artwork on the canvas before you cover the entire thing with foil.. (the cat).. It seems like that portion was a waste of time hahah.. :P

  • @alucardwillfreed14 I think that was pre printed of the mini canvas

  • i loooved the cat : ( and I also loooved what you shared, thank you, I'm an art teacher, and use a lot of ideas -so I appreciate these tips-very cool!!

  • Can you tell me if the only reason for using the bitumen was so that it could wiped off later to allow the silver to show through? Exactly what did you use to to remove the bitumen, I can't quite make out what you say in the video.

    Thanks so much.

  • This may have been explained, but I may have missed it... is there a avoiding streakiness/problems with dry/wet brushes when painting the foil?

Also, when layering, do you need to worry about the first layer rubbing away from the foil as you paint over it?

With other glossy surfaces, I've tried using setting agents on the first layers, but have found that this usually just ends up wiping away the first layer anyway, as it doesnt grip well to the slippery surface. :-\

  • gold stuff looks like nail polish

  • Thanks for sharing, greetings from Brazil !

  • how important is it to use bitumen on foil? does it work something like gesso on canvas before oil painting..?

    Thanks,

  • thank you...

  • wow at 4:19 on the first video it looks like brains!! REALLY freakin great. Rock on.

  • ??????

  • XD that music is NOTHING compared to the stuff my art teacher plays in class. the woman has TERRIBLE taste in music

  • lovely technique! very creative :)

  • Great vid! But what did mrs say when you took off your ring before shooting this? :-D

(-I'm also an artist. We notice everything, right? Ha ha...)

  • @BlazerRose LOL nothing cause i take it off all the time due to my occupation besides being an artist ;)

  • i just loved this work of yours.

  • owy X3 I put the volume up cuz I couldn't hear you but when you grabbed the foil it hurt my ears T-T lolz oh well really nice idea I saw the newer version too :]

  • SNAP ... annoying? Respect the classics man!

Anyway ... nice idea. Thanks for sharing!

  • excellent idea!!

  • Just wondering - why do you use the Bitumen - is it to seal it or is it just for the colour?

  • Hi Gary - this was very inspirational. I couldn't find Bitumen in US so I just used brown acrylic stain and it worked well. I used canvas to put it all on too. Mine ended up being much more feminine (wish I could post a pic but don't know how here). Anyway, don't care about the music one way or other - just loved the technique and mine was totally different in the end but enjoyed the technique. Thanks so much. lchristoffer.

  • Hey Gary! Thanks for sharing this technique. I love the music. I think you're an amazingly authentic creative guy!!!

  • i love ur work im gonna try soon thankx

  • I LOVE THE MUSIC, AND I LOVE YOUR WORK....... A HOT GUY THAT DOES ART... OMG THATS HOT!!!!

  • Great video,only one problem...music

  • the art might be good but the music is atrocious, that is for sure.

    STOP THE MUSIC...AAAAAAAHHHHHRG

  • Very nice 2D methods, check out my 3D style and tell me what you think!

P.S. I know the video quality is garbage but I used a really lousy camera that didn't last long anyway.

  • AWESOME! I can't wait to try it! Thanks. You rock. ")

  • OMG ITS RICKY MARTIN!! LOL

  • at first glance, you look like Ricky Martin. love the technique, TFS:)

  • oh my god i love ur work i will do it thanks for sharing

  • too bad about the shit music..

  • @mctribble LOL well u live and learn..was made back in 2008!

  • This is a great technique and thanks for taking the time to share this. I love how you use regular materials and suggest alternatives. I'm so sick of artists highly recommending particular and expensive brands to use in mixed media.

I LOVE the music! Just my cup of tea.

Thanks for the inspiration and I hope to see more videos from you soon.

  • love the song: i wonder what is the name of the song? and who is the artist of the song? if anyone knows please let me know?

  • Music isn't that bad. Painting is pretty awesome.

  • I'm wondering about cat either, what is the point of doing this technique over cat and other painting that has been covered by Al foil???!!!

  • @HanaPainting

Isn't it obvious that he's recycling an old canvas that just happens to have a cat on it?? Jeez!

  • Wow very nice work love to see that, and youre other videos.

    Thank you.greeting from Holland

  • you're kind of cute.. :)

  • LOVE that song, and great technique. Will have to use it with my altered abums. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers from South Aust.

  • this is soo cool ! the music is great and you are HOT !! thanks for sharing !

  • omg I love it :D before this the only texture I played with paints was with plastic wrap... I wonder how they would look combined..

  • Turned out beautifully. What an artist!

  • hi, so nice ti you showing yours techniques,i m french by teh way so excuse for the bad scribing....bref, i wanted ti know here can i buy bitume, and if teh result is as nice without ?

    thanks you a lot !

  • What an interesting technique. My mind is racing with possibilities. Thank you for sharing. Off to check out your other videos...

  • Love the work and the video....but I really liked that kitty, too! Hmmm....come to think of it....I once did a texture piece over a kitty I painted. Why do we all keep hiding our kitties?

  • Love it and can not wait to try this technique! Thanks for the video.

  • PS. Gary is not "a homosexual" but a beautiful young gay man with more taste and talent than anyone can shake a stick at. Put that in your pimp pipe and smoke it! Lol. Done.

  • Hey Granpimp, chill. You talk to to your mother with that mouth?

  • The whole time I was waiting for the cat to be uncovered again! It was so cute! I don't get the reason for using the bitumen. Doesn't that make it stink? It was interesting to watch you do it. I too hated the music, hit mute every time the music came on. Aside from being annoying music it came on way louder than your voice. I notice this in a lot of videos, maybe YouTube does that to you. No music needed, just talk us through it!

  • why did u paint a cat before u draw?

  • thanks 'CapriconArtist73' for sharing this ... will try it ... looks very interesting :)

  • great technique! where does one find bitumen in the us?

  • thats fantastic!

  • You are a doll for sharing this. Thank you!

  • Love the technique, HATE the music, perhaps the most annoying ever. Still, love the work!

  • @FrFrankiejr LOL yes well i can't please everyone with the choice of music. Im trying to keep the music to a minimum now ;) Thanks for commenting

  • @CapricornArtist73 I am sure trying this over the weekend.....No worries about the music...I like it ;-)

    Cheers!

  • @FrFrankiejr fuck you hes a homosexual he can play what ever music he wants! hes not constrained by your rules you normal fuck!

  • it looked like you were working on a cat painting before you put the foil over it. was that just a painting that you didn't like so you made something new over it? im def going to try this technique

  • OMG....you're awesome! Love this!

  • awesome! and it'd be fun when people come over and see it and so their surprise - it's aluminum foil!! hehe. I ♥ it.

  • Very creative! Thanks!

  • So nice!!! Thank you for the inspiration

  • thank you for great idea !!great work!!

  • Thanks for the inspiration , ! That was amazing , i made one for my self , it looks dope , tinfoil gives great texture , your a wonderful artist , ! WOW!

  • You did an excellent job of explaining how to make foil art. It was quite interesting to watch you both create & see you complete the final foil art piece. You have a true creative gift & great way of presenting new concepts. Thank you for sharing it w/us & I hope to see more of your art technique videos. Cheers!

  • would you mind showing those paintings in the back? your picture parody or whatever of M.L?

  • You are awesome man! thanks a ton for sharing the video. I am gonna be watching more of your videos. I think if you added bees wax to this stuff you just made would be hilarious! I mean not your peace but together with this technique.

    Merry xmas!

  • I see that I am not going to get more done for Christmas now that i have discovered your videos. The rest of the days will be spent looking at them. GREAT work, I feel like you are a piece in the puzzle or the missing link i have been searching for to get artist in me going. Thanks for sharing, thanks for inspiring me! Merry Christmas!!

  • love yr idea however the rust paint is that the black color u put on the foil when u first started the painting thx

  • 3: 56 nicee poor grass xD jk nice maan ;D ima doo something alike

  • I am interested in trying your foil technique. Must I use bitumen to prime the foil or are there other options? What about gesso or tempra? Would they work just as well?

  • Ricky Martin looks like you. You are hot!

  • My art teacher watches your videos

  • Thanks for sharing, i'm going through a bad "artistic" patch, ;-) and i need some inspiration...

    TY 110 times

  • Very cooo - great texture effects

  • Hi there - I'm not clear on the purpose of the Bitumen... is that necessary in order for the paint to adhere to the foil?

    Thanks for the videos! =)

  • subscribed!

  • Great videos ! thank you for sharing your techniques !!! Keep up the wonderful work !, Monica

  • He's cute, talented, creative, sexy, and has great voice. What more could anyone ask for...lol

  • nice lesson capricorn, I made some textured compositions using textile collages, see my "transylvanian night" and "the circle of life and death in the mirror" for instance.

u keep up with your innovative ideas! Jon

  • I love your work. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are very encouraging at least for the first timers. Am gonna try it.

  • Awesome this is cool! Faved. 5*

  • I looked it up: Bitumen - A History, Written by Zayn Bilkadi

The Sumerians called it esir, the Akkadians iddu, and the Arabs of Iraq sayali or zift or qar, but in English, it is simply "bitumen" or "asphalt" - that thick dark liquid you instantly associate with the smell of freshly laid pavement, and the first petroleum product ever used by the human race.

I don't think we put asphalt on our cars here in the US, just on the streets. But I'll go to an auto parts store tomorrow and find out.

  • Gary...Love your work and you are such an inspiration! One question...what is bitumen and what would it be called in the U.S.??? Wishing you the best!

    MJ

  • Gary, I left a response video here! lol. You really encourage me to go outside my box.

  • U're a earth angel. Thanks.

  • Lovely! Wonderful, Fascinating,,,

    I will try too!

    Thanks...

  • Very different! I like it!

  • i will love to know te name of the song plzzz

  • Loved it. Thanks! In addition to buying papers at the local craft store, go to whatever store near you that sells wallpaper and ask for their discontinued wallpaper sample books...they are usually free since they are headed for the trash bin anyway. I especially like the anaglypta...or embossed...papers. They are thick and can take a bit of sanding and abuse.

  • Mamacita: Great idea!

  • Gary as usuall another great tutorial. Love your work. I would love to know how on some of the others you keep your paper from warping. Love ya and your work is awesome. Really inspiring and such a great free syle of just letting go and trusting your intuition. Fabulous

  • Cool effect...great tutorial once again. Loved the little piece that you used for the substrate tho...kinda hurt to watch you cover it up. ;( Happy painting to you Gary

  • It is great,

Gary, thanks for sharing your techniques

and wishing you the best from Melbourne

    Kazia

  • aw hated to see the kitty go, that's one of my favorite stencils of yours, probably because it looks like our new kittens, but this is awesome. I used to do something similar but you have my mind racing with new ideas! thank you!

  • great

If I wanted to add paper/magazine collage material how would it interact with the bitumen and turp?

At what stage would I incorporate it?

    thanks

  • Very nice!! The mixture of Bitumen with turpentine that you always use, is it the same that Rust paint protector?...I'm confused...Thks.

  • Yes the bitumen is basically just 'Rust Paint protector'..sorry for confusing you! ;) I need to learn to be more articulate when talking on camera LOL..i still get nervous and the first few attempts i might as well be talking another language LOL

  • Thanks for answering my question!...I'll get some rust paint protector. You are doing a great job with your videos, I love them!!, and your accent is very cute!! Looking forward for more of your videos!!! :)

  • Thanks very much, let me know how you got on with using the rust protector! ;) Happy painting

  • Very cool! Thanks for the ideas...

    Take Care!!!

  • Thanks for commenting...plenty of ideas to come ;)

  • what a beautiful idea!

  • how did u do the round thingys in the begining?

  • I think you are refering to the textured silver paper i bought from a craft store..are u talking about the round pattern?

  • no the round thingys in the corner at the beggining of the vid

  • Very cool.

  • Great technique, Gary, thank you! The the gold paint (with brush) that you used ... I've not seen anything like that in my area (US). If any of your viewers know what it is here, I hope they'll let us know. Once again, great video, Gary, thank you!!!!

  • u use the same brand of acrylics i use yay

  • What was the last item you mentioned? I can't understand what you said. It looks like something in a can with a thick brush. I would love it if you would post the needed materials in the side bar. Your accent is LOVELY but not alwayys understandable. =D Thanks for your lessons. As always I enjoy them and I have been using some of them as well.

  • It sounds like you say, "bitterman" Is that it? What kind of substance is it?

  • Sorry i just made a materials list! It is bitumen, the stuff you can use to paint on metal to stop rust. You can buy it from a store which supplies anything to do with cars etc. Hope that helps

  • Yes! The description is perfect! Thanks so much for the list in the side bar! Awesome of you to do.

  • Just added a materials list ;)
