  • Thanks for this.

  • its funny i look at ur music instruments reviews, tthen i started to look at videography and it all comes back too u llol

  • Awesome!!! What program is this? Can you set the preset for download?

  • hooray ~ I love audio and h4n-ness~~~

  • That was hilarious...I can get my voice to do that w/o the recorder but that'd make it easier :-)

  • Can't see a damn thing you are doing or changing. This does not help. Try making a tutorial that shows us what you are trying to tell us.

  • I know you uploaded this a long time ago, but could you send me the exact setting you use to get your voice sounding so good.

  • Can you recommend a good desktop mic stand for the zoom h4n? Thanks for the vid. I'll be getting my zoom this week!

  • Haha this guy seems like a dude ;)

  • by the looks of the comments there are people who would probably be willing to pay for a tutorial showing how you got that broadcast sound in this video. You're leaving money on the table. It appears you haven't even been back to youtube to respond to any of these comments.

  • 防风效果真不错!

  • Come on Torley, you can't do it and not telling us how to do the broadcast effect! We are wainting for you! Please! haha

    Anyone got it?

  • What setting do you recommend for interviews in a public place???

  • The Zoom H4n Has 50% Off NOW!!(United States)

    w w w . cheapbuy-online . c o m/zoom-h4n/

    be quickly!!!!

  • Thanks for this very fun and informative video!

  • hey, does anybody know why when I use my h4n as usb interface I get like a lag between the sound that goes in and the saoud a hear on the headphone?

    Thanks

  • @Mauriciovideomaker It's because of latency during recording. This can be changed in the H4n's control panel if you're using Cubase. Not sure where you would change this in other programs.

You need a really fast computer to prevent latency.

I found this out after buying the H4n training course from ProAudiDVDs website

  • I just purchased one of these a couple days ago, should be arriving in the mail within the next couple of days. I'm pretty excited.

  • wtf...ya its a fukin mic.

  • Hi there. I recently bought an H4n and I noticed your video here. Seeing you have a good 6 month jump start on me using this thing. .I'd like to take my audio footage and alter the human sound in it. Do you have any suggestions on software that can change human sounds from the H4n to like. ..phone speaker quality? I'd like to simulate an audio track to telephone speaker sound. Thank you for the response.

  • @palmtrees89

Run your audio through a bandpass filter, available in most audio software. There probably is an effect built-in to the H4 that will do that too.

Here is an article where they use a bandpass filter in final cut pro. The same principals apply to whatever software you choose to use. Also, experiment with a ring modulator to get unique electronic voice sounds.

  • Or tap 0 lots, looks like you're getting too excited about this mic ;)

  • Nice vid dude ;) The best bit is when you wait for the vid to load and keep tapping 6 :P LOL!!!

  • What are your exact settings? :( You never say in the video

  • yeah..... we can't see what your doing....

Maybe use the macro mode on your camera?

  • Just got my H4N today and I'm lovin' it. Thanks for the tips Torley!

  • Did you up the audio in post production? And what mic level did you record this at?

  • Torley I get a lot of hiss noise, is my unit damaged?

  • @vZamfir turn the DB down to like -20 or something and try it again, the hiss hopefully will go away

  • It is virtually impossible to see the H4N screen (even in full-screen mode), so it might be a good idea to actually post a little tutorial in the description of this video.

  • Hi Torley. Thx for the video. I just got the h4n but couldn't find the built-in effect menu. Do I have to be in a specific mode (say stereo, etc.) to get that?

  • @storyim you must be in MTR mode in order to use the effects.

  • Hey, you are really funny. I enjoy looking you have fun to play with the H4n. But most exiting i find the Bass boost. I am looking long time for a recorder can do it. But thanks of you i can stop looking for now. The sound is really great ! :-)

I just have problems to see the Settings for the Broadcast-Effect. May you can write it here again?

My english is not very well, so I cant understand anything you say. But wroten words i can let translate :-)

    Greetings from Germany!

  • whats the name od the program???

  • "Oh you can hear the bird still.. That's nice"

  • when he puts the bass boost on he sounds like kipkay. now I know how kipkay does it! haha. Wish I had this recorder.

  • I just posted a tutorial on how to dump your projects and tracks from the Zoom H4N to the computer using the Audacity freeware program.

I hope it will be useful to many beginners and pro users.

  • HI! I have a 7D and wanted to know on which frame rate does Zoom H4n records in. Any tip on how best to record a vo with zoom without the computer attached.

  • I like this guy.. I'd hire him.

  • THE SAD THING IS, IS THAT'S HIS WHOLE HOUSE... YOU POOR THING! LEAST YOUR FATHER DIDN'T DROWN YOU..... thanks!

  • This guy has a Tay Zonday voice! I would like this guy to sing "Chocolate Rain."

  • Thank you very much for the tutorial. I just purchased an H4n recently and wish to record live bands using the H4n connected to a soundboard. I was thinking of going 1/4" "out" of the board to XLR "in" on the H4n. I would be interested in getting your input and/or suggestions. Would this be a good way to go?...and can the H4n handle output from a soundboard? Appreciate you time. Thanks again.

  • @xdj70s yes, the h4n can handle it. BUT before you go with this solution think about 3 things 1) will soundboard techie let you behind the board with him AS WELL AS let you hijack/piggyback/other his I/O ports? 2) Would you be willing to have NO mixability? (meaning that you have to go with the techie's mix as-is), which brings us to 3) Is this a live performance or studio? (if it is live then the mix will be garnered towards the room's shape and body count; maybe not good for you)

  • @xyegore Thank you so much for your quick reply. Last night I recorded a live performance and decided to use 1/4" "out" to 1/4" "in" which yielded great results. I was fortunate enough to have an awesome sound man who was very cooperative. His mix came out sweet! I was a little worried at first, and wondered if I would need an in-line pad between my connections. Anyway, I was very satisfied with the results and appreciate your help. Have a great week.

  • @xdj70s Hey, no problem! I'm super glad to hear it worked out for ya!! This actually encourages me to do it too... I haven't done it yet because I'm skeptical about how good a live performance will sound as well as how well the crossover would be. Would you be able to post a video with it or a sample from it so I can hear the results? You have a great week also!

  • @xyegore Sure... I hope to post a video montage of the event by tomorrow sometime. I'll send you a link when I do. I already made an MP3 of one of the artist's songs. They loved it and put it on their Facebook music player (the quality was that good). Talk to you soon.

  • love the way u play with it haha...

does it work well on a macbook?

i thought of getting it for vocal recording alongside keyboard and guitar playing. what are your thoughts bro? hope to hear from u soon. thanks

  • this is one happy guy!

  • why nobody ever do a range test with this thing?? i never found any video that does it.

  • Hi Torley

i have some questions about the h4n, and can't find infos on web, so may you could answer?

Is the H4n latency low or high ?

Did you used an external soundboard at the output of the zoom? or it's simply USB ?

    Mac or PC? ASIO drivers?

Ableton is lagging on my computer with motherboard' input line.

Do you think it's about settings or hardware ? (well i don't have soundboard)

Still recording by this way with others programs is no latency problem.

So may the usb device arrange it ? thank

  • nice stuff!!! ))

  • what's that audio record software running on the left side?

  • @Tobuscus Ableton Live

  • anyone know where torley lives ?

  • I need to record lectures in a classroom. Will this device be helpful i recording by using a Cardioid Clip on mic and the speaker keep the device in the pocket with the clip on mic on his collar. Moreover will it be able to reduce or totally remove the surrounding noises of audience and ceiling Fan.

  • Hi I'm Tom fron Chicopee Paranormal, I just got the Zoom H4N and I will be trying to capture EVPs with it. If I capture anything I will post it on my channel.

  • @ChicopeeParanormal I'm pretty sure the Zoom H4n only picks up human sounds, not ghost sounds. :)

  • I love how excited you get from this microphone :)

  • what's it like at recording voices from say 5 metres away?

  • hey i loved the zoom h4n vid for richer voice over. I was wondering if you could tell me exactly what to do to get that broadcast sound??? i really couldnt understand or see on the vid what you were doing, and being a noob i had a hard time processing the techical jargen.... so any chance you write down the steps??? i loved it! is it something i could really do?

  • Any chance you could actually specify those settings you have? It's no good telling us it's "preset 50" when 50 and above are empty banks for user edits :-) What limiter setting have you got, what FX and levels have you set up? There are likely more people wondering the same :-)

  • Try an RE20 or SM7B.

  • Sorry, just because your voice sounds bassier doesn't mean it is good. You're not a proffessional i assume. you are cute, however.

  • YO! can you do a better Tutorial so we can see your settings alot better, cool video but if we can't see what you are doing on the zoom, than the tutorial is pointless. Tip: show close up video of the zoom screen and than do a voice over, telling us what you are doing. thanks

  • I have a question about built-in speaker.

If a voice source from my keyboard input to H4n through a line, then play this voice source on buid-in speaker during non-recording/playback status.

Can H4n do this? If H4n can, please tell me how to setup.

  • - what if i have recording software that does not support asio?

    - When i record something in computer via h4n does it give sound out if i plug in speakers in (when i use it as external soundcard) ??

    - how good ar recordings?

    - If i want to wach movie in my comp can i make sound out throug h4n. Can i change in windows control panel from integrated sound card to h4n?

I hope you undersand my questions...

    Thanks.

  • Great info and great elephant t-shirt.

  • Hello. Great stuff!!

I also have the zoom H4N and i would like to do voice over recording in a few days. But i didn't really get everything what you were doing. Is it possible that you write me al the steps?? Step by step? It would be very kind of you!

    Friendly greetings,

  • mine has a distinct hiss too - any suggestions on how to resolve that? are there settings on the device?

  • Love the video Torley - I just ordered one today. I have a high def camcorder which unfortunately doesnt have a mic socket so Im hoping this will work in recording the separate sound for me to sync up in post production. I previously used the snowflake usb mic and my mac to record the sound separately but its not practical for field recordings. Thanks for uploading the video

  • Hi Torley, I have a H4n also and I am extremely happy with it. For those of you who ask. I am using it to record demos with two keyboards and vocals and I mostly use the MTR (multitrack) mode and just bounce the three or four tracks and mix within the unit, burn to CD and it sounds very good. And I don't even use the Cubase software included. Anyway Torely can I use the settings you are using on your voice and the external mics to pre-recorded tracks in MTR mode?

  • @alcatras4 Does yours have a "hiss" when you record? I got mine yesterday, and if I take the audio off the SD Card and play it in adobe audition, there is a distinct hiss?

  • Hello, Torley. I wonder if you can explain what do you do at 1:04 in your video here. I asked two or three guys and no one seems to know what you explain there. I really like that FM stereo sound of yours and i want to apply that sound to my guitar videos. Can you please explain to me like i'm a 6 years old? Because i'm not so bright in those things. Thanks for your help.

  • lol! great video :)

  • lol this guy is funny, wish i could be this happy//

  • I just ordered one along with a redhead windscreen (for my field use). Thanks for sharing the video Torley.

  • Hi. I was thinking about getting this recorder to record jam sessions with my band. The thing is being a drummer, im concerned that f i try to use this it will, for lack of a better term, sound bad and static-y. You seem knowledgable about this recorder and i was just wondering if i could get your opinion on the matter. Thanks in advance

  • how do i match up the zoom with my video camera?

  • The H4n supports Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) so your recorded files carry time stamp information. You can even set markers (cue points) during recording or playback. The Zoom Q3 camcorder has bad video quality but has the H4 mic technology on board.

  • Great video! Very interesting info about the recorder, nice to watch. Thank you!

  • how is the quality of the sound, iv'e heard it comes out like a proffesional recording studio sound, btw thank you for this tutorial, your very entertaining lol

  • Awesome tutorial, I'm getting this mic in a couple days definitely!! :D

  • Hi torley, I too have an H4n, i can't figure out how to get to those settings you mention here"limit, number 50, etc" I've gone through the menu and can't find it. can i access this on the mic itself, or are you playing with those 'pre amp' settingson your computer?

    thanks!

  • I bought a H4N today and as far as I understand it you can only use these effects when it is set to USB mode..what I cant understand is how to use the H4N as a usb microphone? I can record stuff directly into my computer through a DAW but cant use it like torley seems to..I cant hear a thing through my computer only through the headphone jack on the zoom. Torley HELP US!!! lol

  • is it possible for you to tweak a dynamic microphone to sound like a condenser microphone

  • Really great tutorial on H4N! Please make more!!! This really helps understand the settings to beginners like myself.

  • Brilliant fun! I've just bought one and can't wait to get it and start playing!!

  • lol.. nice one man, thanks.

what do you think is the best mic to buy if you're on a budget? (as most people right now are). I really want something like that but its too expensive.

  • i want one

  • Yaaaay - I bought the same H4n, 3 weeks ago to get good audio for my machinima's! (voice overs, foley).

Thanks, this is more then useful!!!!

  • no shit

  • "you're"

  • You are an interesting individual. More vidjos!

  • I didn't understand all the technical stuff but I like all tutorials it was so much entertaining. Love it when you pointed out the silent problem at 2:55 :D

  • It looks like something you'll find at the hospital to measure heart rate!

  • Nice :D 5 stars :D

  • Haha cool Torley

  • Yo Torley, you using the M-Audio Keystation 61 es?

  • 88es
