I really loved the soundtrack album. However, very disappointed with the movie. It look like it was just through together. I love Prince but did not care for the movie. It could have been better instead of being done in a warehouse setting .Enjoyed his other movies! Still love you Prince!
Visual MJ lift, one after the other.... I'm trying to figure out does this video more-closely resembles "Escape" or "Come Together" before it.
oh and Pepsi generation.... 5 yrs later comes an alleged "NP-Generation"... "lay down your funky weapon" >>Beat it recall. Michael did everything Prince has done except first. That said, both I love. Michael's better at everything but instruments. Great song until watching video.
This video -- more of a movie trailer -- is proof that good editing *can* polish a turd. The movie that I *thought* I was gonna get after watching this trailer was 100x better than what we actually got. Still, the movie had some great moments and excellent music! And Prince's perm is tight!
Grafitti Bridge what an absolute crock of shit. NKOTB would have passed on all of the songs. My friend says he's still in recovery having never got over the trauma. I remember going in to buy it on the day it was released and getting it home trying to like it, I did that for the next 3/4 albums and then gave up and just restricted myself to the 78-89 catalog.
@doctacool312 They're just not good songs. Showy brash production style, really obvious- No subtlety or sophistication or dare I say depth. Listen to Mountains, Slow Love, Scandalous and then listen to those two songs. Prince used to create Soul music.
@timtrek ive listened to those songs many times, i dont get what they have to do with graffiti bridge though. is it not possible to appreciate more than 3 of his songs? clearly you aren't much of a prince fan i guess. and btw elephants and flowers was recorded before scandalous, so did prince make soulful music, decide to stop, and then again do soulful music and then stop again?
I have been a Prince fan since I knew what real music was (bout 12) I have every album of his, and think he is a musical GENIUS!!!! He can play every instrument and writes his own music and lyrics to boot. When M. Jackson died, my husband was devastated, as was I. But all me and my friends could REALLY think was, "THANK GOD is wasn't Prince, because then my life would be over."
WOW! I have followed this artist since his first album was released in 1978. Little did I know, that I was a fan of THE GREATEST MUSICAL ARTIST IN MANKIND'S HISTORY! AWESOME! Prince continues the most amazing, and influential career eve livedr. We have been so blessed to witness this greatness!
The movie didn't suck. It just didn't live up to what people thought it was going to be. Still had badass music! Now the music The Time did could've been better, which is why I prefer Prince produce them than The Time produce themselves
lmao, as much as I'd like to say this movie was good... It wasn't, but the music was GREAT! New power generation, tick tick bang and we can funk... Only the best from his purple badness ;)
I am 42 years old and after 32 years I am still the biggest Prince groupie I know. :) That being said Graffitti Bridge was a HORRIBLE movie. Oh my God it was bad, BUT the music from the movie was FANTASTIC. The thing I liked about the soundtrack was this was the only one from any of the movies he did that it was a complete soundtrack of all the music from the film. Usually (like with Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon) the soundtrack is only HIS music from the movie. This one was different.
GB the movie was really not that great, its a tough one to understand and make sense of, Prince rushed the movie and WB also gave him a very limited budget. He was making changes as he was making the movie. It wasn't going to be a Purple Rain sequal which it didnt work, its sort of an odd retelling :op
But the Funk was great, and the album a sort of 'greatest unreleased hits' of the decade.
@wendileona Prince rox as u know....and I agree the movie wasn't all that...but...in my opinion...As always Prince didn't care....and he just put into film another part of his very diversed and creative mind...for some it worked...for some it didn't ...I liked it...bcuz I saw it from a musical creative perspective.....not so much a movie perspective...and no...not a follow up to Purple Rain at all xcept for the Billys will part.....
Just finished watching "Purple Rain", and that led me on a Wiki-Trek on all things Prince. "Graffiti Bridge" was an uneven movie, but the music was still amazing!
Prince had a solid 5-year stretch when he was making some of the best "pop" music around, but neither MTV or BET showed him love.
It's an honor to share the early hours of my birthday with a man who is on the "Mount Rushmore" of great song & dance men (along with MJ, Soul Brother #1, and The Candyman).
@NathanMosaic Kurt Loder praised him up and down during the 80's on MTV and Rolling Stone, BET always had Prince video marathon's - Video Soul, Video Vibrations, etc., etc., etc.
Prince defied rock labels by mixing up many genre's that he loved. He wasn't just pop, he was a lot more.
Prince's beard is on point! I might shave mines like that next time.

@wendileona Valid points, but it was more of a begrudging statement of fact rather than a true appreciation of genius in the making.
And I meant pop in the sense of making music that was easily accessible to the masses.
