  • Yeah,..this is just the same role as in Mean Streets,as was said here.I loved him in that!! It's actually one of my favorite films. He was such a cutie!!

  • HE WAS SO HOT!!!

  • He pretty much played this role in Mean Streets. What a film and performance btw.

  • You can't compare them like that..its art not a sport! Both Versions(Cann and De Niro) are good...they're just different. Cann seems more of a powerful, tough, tempermental character while De Niro's version seems.....wild, creepy and crazy!

  • He deserved the role, as well as the other great actors.

  • omg his hair

  • he looks waayy too nice to be Sonny but honorable and charming like young Vito

  • I have a question: where is this taken from? it looks like a documentary or a making-off, any idea where I can see the whole thing?

  • @gigel008 Bonus disc in the boxset

  • De Niro would have terrific as Sonny....but Caan was perfect....this movie has many strengths.....the script, the cinematography, and ( of course ) the directing...but its greatest strength is its cast of actors....It is the best cast movie in Hollywood history....

  • Still looken good

  • hmm ... too lazy to be Sonny Corleone.

  • It's not that I'm saying Bobby couldn't act that better for Sonny's role but really, I think James Caan Had to be the Sonny. James Caan IS Sonny and Bobby De Niro IS Vito. I hope you get the picture because all the actors that were included in the Godfather movie were ALL "GODS" and they are the best actors and actresses ever. No one of 'em are weak.

  • he is a joker!!!

  • Fascinating. It would have been a different movie w/ DeNiro. Sonny would have been smoother, sweeter. Caan as Sonny was harder as he said these lines. I can see the picture working w/ DeNiro, but Sonny's outbursts would have been more shocking; it would have changed so much about Michael's story.

  • Greatest Actor ever....

  • Comment removed

  • I love DeNiro!!!!!!

  • De Niro looked amazing!

  • It worked out perfectly because Deniro became an icon in Part II and Caan in Part I.

  • younger robert de niro looks so cute in here, and hes a respectable dude, and al pacino looked cute younger too.

  • @DonCorleone87 Come on, this is Robert De Niro we're talking about here. To say there's any role he couldn't play is almost blasphemous.

  • @blkmambafan11 There is no role he can't play, he's fucking legend. And I'm not saying James Caan did better than him, I'm just saying I can imagine Caan as Sonny better than I can imagine De Niro as Sonny, especially when with Michael (Al Pacino).

  • @TheSouthernPsycho Noooooooo Robert De Niro can't Play Sonny, The goal for Coppola was supposed to be the Most American Looking son, when it was supposed to be Michael.

  • @lordvoldemort578 agreed cahn was better for sonny ...that feisty temper without laid back bronx accent..sonny just went better for cahn....deniro could have played it of course ...but ultimately james caan was teh better choice

  • @henhao1972 James Caan Just had that ability to go from Happiness, to laughter, to sudden confusion then anger in one scene it was amazing. De Niro could probably pull it off. But Caan was made for this role. Go Back and watch the whole Godfather, and Pictue De Niro as Sonny, You just can't do it. the all american, Muscular, masculine, looking 1940's guy, and that was CAAN.

  • @lordvoldemort578 Good point, and actually in some part in the book, Sonny was described as a brutal man, which I think Caan could picture perfectly. DeNito can portrait someone wild, but even then there seems to be a certain coolness in that wildness, which maybe wouldn´t had been as effective as Caan did. Awesome to see this, anyway.

  • @TheSRalston You hit it on the Nail James Caan is Sonny. They Said Sonny was Loving and Kind, but can go to anger and confusion in The drop of a hat. James Caan Played it perfectly. De Niro has portrayed angry guys in the past.Listen to this from the book: and then in the fraction of a second before anything actually happened, Santino Corleone knew he was a dead man. And in that moment his mind was lucid, drained of all violence, as if the hidden fear finally real and present had purified him.

  • raw diamond.

  • De Niro is the subtle, silent, only speak when he has to kinda guy.. Sonny was the crazy. dont think twice kinda guy... Vito was a better role for him although this try out was pretty good

  • WTF, young actors before were all so handsome!

  • @misscarly12 i know its hard to see old actors as being young bcuz we see them as old u know

  • Just think if De Niro got the part how Sonny's death would have played out. Would have been strange. Caan was the right choice. De Niro a legend of his own.

  • Comment removed

  • He would have played him too much like Johnny Boy.

  • @JoshRA I can't see that. The character is nothing like Johnny Boy. The only comparable thing between the two characters would of been the guy playing them. But anyways, James Caan was perfect for Sonny.

  • in the end they got every role just right

  • damn, If Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were brothers in the film; and Marlon Brando was their father, I'd think their grandfather HAD to be Jesus Christ, just saying lol...

  • @Viewer305212 hahah, and their uncle would be Chuck Norris :P

  • @Viewer305212 lmao thats funny!

  • wait so he was too good , that he didnt get it?

  • Hey CooloKing. Go watch some more cartoons.

  • Awesome. But he was destined for Vito and James Caan for Sonny.

  • I loooove Robert DeNiro but I think James Caan made a better Sonny. You don't want a pretty boy for this character.

  • ...non è solo un attore...lui è l' Arte del cinema...grande,grandissimo Robert

  • de niro looks like my uncle and my uncle looks like de niro ;)

  • @WindowsSoftwareDe I think your uncle might be De Niro.

  • @WindowsSoftwareDe my cousin looks like DeNiro and my uncle looks like Pacino :P

  • @WindowsSoftwareDe

Maybe they were separated at birth !

  • They should have done Part III like they did part II Show Vincents reign as Don Corleone and have him every now and then ask Lucy What Sonny was like and she tells him and the scene goes to flashbacks of the 1930's with Sonny in the Olive Oil war and how he commits his first murder and how he becomes the Underboss of the

    Corleone Crime Family.

  • @brawlerbob AND THIEF AND ROLLERBALL

  • He didnt get the part, but he got the part of the young Vito Corleone. So it worked out. How cool is that?

  • I love this guy.

  • Robert is awesome!!

  • DeNiro looks like he smoked a fat joint before trying out for the part

  • This archetype of common a garden variety psychopathic guinea punk can get in front of a camera operated by a higher ranking and a bit more intelligent senior guinea director and the end result is we get to see a guinea punk character on the screen that is surprisingly realistic. This guido's entire acting career is centered upon deceiving the film audience of his films into believing criminal meatballs are great men, and that he is a great actor simply by reading lines as the greaseball he is.

  • @Therealtaxidriver Oddly enough, DeNiro is 3/4 Irish....

  • @CoolerKing37 I have read he claims that is true more than once. But his father the Manhattan Artist and homosexual's last name actually was Deniro. I knew his mother who was also an artist by the name of Virginia Admiral and she had a strong Italian accent & looked quite Italian.

You can't believe any of the things this greasy rat bastard claims he is. He is full of shit from the get go! He's a mob owned puppet & was deeply involved with the deceased homosexual film director Stanley Kubrick

  • @Therealtaxidriver So why did you base your username on one of of his movies? Or do you really drive taxis for a living?

  • Comment removed

  • @Therealtaxidriver Wow, that's really interes-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @CoolerKing37 Well since you feel that way about hearing the answers to your dumb questions then I hope you don't mind terribly if I refer to you as the CooloMadiconKing! Piss off back to the homo wanker websites!!

  • @Therealtaxidriver Sorry, but your life is just boring. You better thank DeNiro for making it somewhat tolerable.

  • @CoolerKing37 My life is never boring because I was born with a pair of brass balls sonny boy. I won't thank DeNiro for anything until he drops dead so when he's buried I'll have a nice grave to piss on. Now go back to your cartoons and leave me alone Colo King.

  • @Therealtaxidriver Arguing with me on the internet is the highlight of your day. You should be thanking me.

  • @CoolerKing37 Get a life & Fuck Off Coolo King!

  • @Therealtaxidriver Get a life? Says the guy who's basically complaining that his identity was stolen by Robert DeNiro. Sorry, but your life wasn't THAT remarkable...

  • Yea, Caan was good but De Niro probably impressionated Coppola that much that he gave him Vito's role in the second part.

  • does this remind anyone else of Johnny Boy? I think they did the right thing getting him to play Vito in the second movie. De Niro excels at the calm but strong paternal type roles

  • He's such a god-damn hack!

  • he wasnt sonny :/ he was Vito corleone in his prime...

  • ⬇⬇ #OMG SUBSCRIBE to the Godfather's channel HERE ⬇ #FTW Thumbs up!!

  • So Robert De Niro's father would have been Robert De Niro?

  • At the end James Cann is like "He he he, I got the part!"

  • Excuse me but what is the name of this documentary on the Godfather ?

  • de niro is so hot

  • . beautiful your video!

There 'an Italian artist who makes video very nice

Think of the name ANGELO JAY .. and 'very good:

  • Im not saying they should remake the Godfather. Im just sayin that if they ever did then it would be kinda kool if De Niro played Vito Corleone.

  • I'm glad he didn't get this role because he was epic as a young Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather II!

  • Robert De Niro would of been great, but it wouldn't have been the breathtaking performance he gave in Part II as the young Vito Carleone

  • Bobby D!

  • @ WAMSgirls8 - stop spreading garbage!

  • A mans man...even with his hair bunched up in a scrunchie....lol

    De niro for prez!

  • Did anybody else besides me think that DeNiro in that audition bore an uncanny resemblence to Rocky Balboa? I think that's what got Caan the part. lol imagine a Rocky-esque gangster telling Al Pacino how to knock somebody off. And I know Rocky didn't come out for another 4 years but still lol. And I love DeNiro so don't blast me for saying this lol

  • He's so hot

  • that was good

  • I think that if they ever remake the Godfather they should have De Niro play Vito Corleone.

  • @jstock100 I think that they should never, ever remake the Godfather though

  • @jstock100 God I hope they never re make the Godfather. Why would you ever do that? Why doesn't Hollywood create new movies instead of rehashing old ones? If we just keep making remakes of old movies we will run out of movies to remake until we remake them a 3rd time. STOP THE REMAKES Hollywood! Use your imagination and actually CREATE.

  • @jstock100 Not every movie needs a remake

  • @atowari THANK YOU! I say leave the classic films alone. Hollywood is stuck in a creative ditch. No great movie need a remake.

  • @jstock100 Woah you must know nothing about the movie industry. Remaking the Godfather would be one of the worst mistakes you could ever make

  • De Niro is good but James Caan was born to be Sonny!!

  • @arodardoardo is it because of the book or the movie.

  • @kingcaesar5 i hve read some of the book but even then i pictured James as Sonny.

  • @arodardoardo caan? really? hes okay. anybody can play sonny. its easy. its harder to play young vito, and michael corleone.

  • Not bad, but Caan totally kicked ass. He deserved that part. Besides, when we need someone to play the young Vito, who better than De Niro? No pun intended.

  • @osamabad I agree, but what pun?

  • @Jacone10

In the movie, Michael says, "Besides, when I need a consigliere, who better than my father?". I'm not sure if those were the exact words, but it was something like that.

  • @osamabad I don't knwo what it is but i don't think de niro has the look that sonny should. he doesn't have that he'll do anything to hurt you in any ways. he has more of the tactical, not so hungry eyed look. Cann had that

  • @osamabad where was the pun there?

  • @godintheradio

In the movie, Michael says, "Besides, if I ever need help, who would make a better consigliere than my father?"

  • @osamabad So the pun WAS intended. Silly cunt.

  • @SiameseChemise

No, it wasn't. Do you not understand what that phrase means? It means you didn't intend to create a pun, but one happened by accident.

  • @osamabad There is no pun, either accidental or intended. Do you know what a pun is? You accidentally paraphrased the dialogue. That isn't a pun. CUNT.

  • @SiameseChemise

No, dumbass. A pun is when you say something that makes a subtle reference to what you're describing. In this case, my comment about De Niro has a similarity to a line in the movie being discussed. Moron!

  • @osamabad Here is a definition for you, because I think you must be retarded to continue embarrassing yourself on this public forum: 'the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications; a play on words' Your poor paraphrasing of dialogue does not qualify.

  • @SiameseChemise

Duh! Different meanings? Exactly! The first meaning is how it describes De Niro as the best choice to play young Vito. The second meaning is it's similarity to a line in the movie. That's what a pun is. It has one direct meaning and one indirect meaning. Funny, I bet you just looked up that definition now, because your second response to me clearly shows that you agree that it WAS a pun.

  • @osamabad That wasn't a pun

  • @AlisMalice

    Yes it was.

  • @osamabad a pun is making a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word.

    For example

"There was a sign on the lawn at a drug re-hab center that said 'Keep off the Grass'." Grass could mean Weed or Grass (thats the pun)

    or

Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now. All right could mean hes all good now or he just has a right side now, thats the pun :)

  • @arodardoardo

    Puns could include phrases too.

  • @osamabad i like the "no pun intended" part

  • Robert De Niro is a very talented and very very devoted actor.

  • De Niro should be in this movie!

  • Hahahahaha TRUE "Sonny" laughing at him epic :D

  • pacino and deniro were about the same age so it wouldnt have worked .sonny had to be older and caan certainly was.

  • @edthewise

Pacino and Caan are the same age..

  • Denzel Washington as sonny in an Italian Mafia-Family? Funny.

  • Denzel Washington should have gotten the part of Sonny in the Godfather! You racial prejudiced pigs always pick the white guy.

  • @onebaud we'll give denzel the part when a white guy stars in a Tyler Perry movie, you double-standard twat.

  • @onebaud Would he not have looked just a tiny bit out of place with all his family being white Italians? Not to mention that Denzel Washington is about 10 years younger than DeNiro, he would have been far too young

  • @onebaud It was the godfather. It was set in the 1940s ish as i remember. They were italian american..... How the fuck would they have been black?

  • If he got the part he wouldn't have won the Oscar!

  • @Oallright That's right 'cause he couldn't have played young Vito Corleone in part 2. Which, by the way is the only time an academy award has been given to two different actors playing the same character (but I bet you know this).

  • why didn't do BARAB BARABOOM that thing Sunny said to Micheal in term of advising ?

  • Deniro would have made a fantastic sonny corleone...but in this alternate universe, james caan may have been michael and the godfather may not have been as classic, scarface is never made because pacino is givin handjobs for cash instead of acting, and young vito corleone is later played by, uhh, someone else who gives less than an oscar winning performance. Coppola made the right call.

  • I don't know. To me, James Caan IS Santino. Especially after reading the book where Sonny's physical appearance seems like it would be more like James Caan than Robert DeNiro.

  • Doesn't sem right for Sonny, but then maybe that's because I'm so used to Caan's performance. He brought this same character to Johnny Boy in Mean Streets.

  • Brilliant

  • LOL at him looking like Elias Koteas ... picture De Niro playing Casey Jones LOL !

  • You can just see the effortlessness. The guy was born to act

  • so hot young

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL Honesty shows character. ;)

  • It wouldn't work De Niro was mean't to play the young Vito(although I liked Marlon Brando's performance better De Niro did really well as Vito. Both of them deserved their Oscars).

  • Elias Koteas and him look a lot alike during this time.

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL Di Caprio up there with De Niro and Pacino? He's way too clean cut and had a silver spoon in his mouth since he was a child. No way.

  • he did good for the audition, but James Caan had that 40s look to him

  • Lucky break - not getting that - he went on to play the best part in one of the best movies ever.

  • I love the way he says suit.

  • dam I just love this man.

  • @meiscool6 he says maRonna actually, which it's the sicilian way to say madonna.

  • @MarleneCrimson indeed! you're right!i'm sicilian,I know what I say!

  • I wouldn't give it to him based on this thing

  • why does everybody worship this fuckin cunt!!!???

  • @tfman31

because he's amazing, and what an awful word to use about him!

  • @tfman31

because he's amazing, and what an awful word to use about him!

  • @tfman31 because he is one of the greatest actors of all time, you dumb fuck

  • @playap23 well then fuck u asshole!

  • @tfman31 you're 13... says a lot.

  • @Dragsteryourself yo man. u mess with my friend again, and i'll kill u!

  • @udontfookswitdaniger y do u give a fuck?

  • Love when he says "maronna mia!"ahhahah.what an actor!

  • @MarleneCrimson too authentic for them. not "main stream" enough like Caan.

  • So young, yet classy lol Deniro played perfect young Vito Corleone

  • @mrsrmdeniro2011 no it was not

  • I didn't recognized him when I saw the Godfather first time!

  • @glglous me neither.....i grew up in 90s so i always had an image of him being old and fat....but when i saw godfather.....0_0 he looked like a true gangster

  • Man the actors of today suck and have no talent. The lack of talent is right in league with the amount of sequels, remakes, and reboots Hollywood keep putting out every year. I mean stack a Robert De Niro up with Matt Damon. No challenge. Stack a Al Pacino up against James Franco. Again no challenge.

  • Can you imagine? Deniro is Sonny, Caan is Michael, Pacino is Fredo, Marlon is Tatagglia, and Sir Richard Harris is Vito.

  • @SoothsayerYT So it's your opinion that he's shit versus the opinion anyone who knows a thing about film... Idiot.
