I always wondered what the great hits of Bacharach-David would have sounded like if Burt wrote both the lyrics and the music? Would the songs still be hits? Or, if Hal David wrote both the lyrics and the music?
Apollo Brown, music producer used this song as his intro for his instrumental album. Utter Genius. Must listen to his version of the song same artist singing it but with a new and cleaner beat to it.
Wonder if he'd write a score for Morgan Freeman ? I mean, all he would probably need is some young gal with a great figure, but the kind that would ask for directions like "Do you know the way to San Jose".... What he needs to do is call up Hef and see if he ride along with them to some of their engagements. Those gals are quick witted, so they just might have that certain punch line he's looking for. Even if some of the songs he might create are raunchy... aren't those the priceless ones.

This is AWFUL. He's no doubt cranked out some really great tunes in his time. But this is just awful. Wonder if he's coming to Memphis for the big tennis championship as he could play at Morgan Freeman place on Beale Street.
I always liked Burt Bacharach and his songs. The movie did not quite work as a musical, but it was a great story. Burt's songs were fine, and stand on their own apart from the movie.
He's a romantic idealistic composer/singer and maybe reality would improve if we include goodness and dreams creating spaces that are safe from harm and getting along with other people... to find a 'lost horizon' we can start at home and have peace and harmony within ourselves and those around us...
I love this video with his playboy style hair and clothes. Every little girl's dream... we watched Lost Horizon in the Philippines and I'm glad he has videos on Youtube for all his fans around the world.
I've heard lots of criticism of Burt's songs on this soundtrack but his songs were just awesome on it. I don't know what the deal is with some people. I don't know if they have a dull soul, bad taste, or low intelligence, or what. But those songs were terrific.
I've never seen this. How great you posted it. Bacharach didn't have what one would consider a great singing voice, but he had a unique sounding voice that conveyed more feeling in his music than alot of singers.
@bseligson Make It Easy On Yourself is one sung by him. There should also be A House Is Not A Home sung by him here on youtube. Not sure of any other.
Hi, Im the one who posted the Shawn Phillips version. I never thought much of Bacharach's singing, but of course, love his music and this is really nice. Thank you for posting it!
Burt Bacharach has always been one of my main inspirations as a songwriter. He is still going strong!

Yes, Bacharach is the man. You can dismiss the film, maybe, but not Mr. B. Hey, wasn't that true of just about every film he did songs for?

I heard this song when I was a kid and it's kind of mystical to me. Now I found it here with the great song writer himself . Thanks for posting this.

@motowngirl65 Agreed! I have seen 5 of his concerts and at 54 years old--I am indeed a child of the 70's (Burt's peak).
I enjoyed Lost Horizon!

Sadly, it was the MOVIE that didn't do too well. But the songs in it are just fantastic and vintage Bacharach.
