I'm so happy that I grew up during this time. The comedy was funny without using sophomoric dirty language. It was the golden era. Too bad young people today don;t watch this kind of humor. Too bad.
In this movie the german flight attendant says something like "vitzkliiege" or something whenever she leaves or he leaves. But I don't know what it means and it would be helpful if someone could translate?
Jerry Lewis perfectly in control, Tony Curtis a marvellous deceiver and Thelma Ritter, the most tired woman ever: her lines are simply unforgettable. Marvellous comedy.
Tony Curtis was boasting that his part in this movie was funnier than Jerry's. It might be so, but I should add, hoping not to offend any of Tony's fans, that Jerry was sexier than Tony here...
Christiane Schmidtmer (who played Lufthansa's Lise) passed away in her sleep on March 13, 2003 at her home in Heidelberg, Germany. A long-term illness and trauma and follow-up surgery from a broken arm and shoulder were more than her frail body could withstand. She was a great actress but always underestimated. On a side note, the Lufthansa Boeing 727 on which she arrived in Paris at the beginning of the movie was namde after the city of Heidelberg. What a coincidence?!?!?!
This was one of several film adaptations of a French play by Marc Camoletti. In addition to this American version, there was a French version in 1960, a 1985 version in the Southern Indian language of Malayalam, and a Hindi version in 2005.
The current Broadway production of the play, imported from the London stage, has been nominated for 6 Tony awards.
In 1991, the play was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most performed French play throughout the world.
What a lovely movie. Dany Sval is really cute, but I adore Christiane Schmidtmer (Lufthansa). She is so beautiful... what a lovely and graceful lady. It's so sad that she already passed away.
Really? I didn't know that she had died. That's unfortunate.
My personal favorite was Suzanna Leigh as Vicki, the British stewardess (who doesn't appear in this clip). I've just always had a thing for English girls, I guess. BTW, she played a character named Vicki (or Vicky, or Vickie) two other times -- in "The Deadly Bees" (1966) and in an episode of the TV anthology series "Journey to the Unknown" (1969).
Christiane Schmidtmer died in her sleep on March 13, 2003 at her home in Heidelberg, Germany. Due to natural causes after an accident and being ill for some time. Trauma from a broken arm and shoulder and later follow-up surgery were more than her frail body could withstand. She was a great actress but always underestimated. On a side note: the Lufthansa Boeing 727 on which she arrives at the beginning of the movie was named after the city of Heidelberg. What a coincidence?!?!?!
Jerry appeared in this strictly to fulfill the end of his Paramount contract- this was his last film for the studio, after 16 years. He had nothing to do with the production end of the picture {for a change}, and that's why this isn't in his "style", 'utube'. He just wanted to get his obligation to Paramount out of the way so he could produce and star in his own films for other studios...
This was an interesting change of pace for Jerry (it was basically a sex farce after all) and I think he's quite good as a womanizer and gets to play off a partner other than Dean for a change. A shame he didn't get more opportunities like this to try something different.
I guess this was Jerry's foray into a romantic comedy with a big Hollywood costar. I believe this was the time when Jerry was a very hot commodity at Paramount and they were eager to try him in just about any comedy role. It really isn't Jerry's style and his talent seems pretty much lost in this role.
that "big hollywood star" just happened to be one of jerry's closest friends..Tony and Jerry had been friends for many many years before this film was made, and i couldnt disagree more with "his talent seems pretty much lost in this role" statement, i think this is one of his finest moments.
Me gusta que Jerry a veces tome el rol secundario, ya que permite ver el otro lado de Jerry, igualmente talentoso , buenmozo y carismatico como siempre
This is the kind of movie that critics usually describe as a "labored farce." It's noteworthy mainly for Jerry Lewis taking a second-banana role, and pretty English actress Suzanna Leigh (who I had a small crush on at the time).
@kfkohea I didn't grow up in this era but I absolutely agree that the 60s were the golden age of Hollywood comedy.

Is she the one with the very blonde, curly hair?
You know the one who was engaged to Tony but then got engaged to his best friend in the movie?
I'm very confused about which one is which.
