  • Page and Bonzo were working on a heavier album in early 80 and they were not happy with the synthesized feel of In Through The Outdoor. Page wanted something heavier and that would have been the tone of their next album. band would have stayed together if Bonzo had lived because plant had a loyalty to him and Bonzo was a steadfast loyal guy to Page. Robert was getting his way by 1980 with shorter tours and less improvisation.

  • Is an overvre the same as a reportiore?

  • The bass line is INSANE,his movement in this song is original.God bless led zepp

  • Sublime guitar solo around 3.30 onwards

  • three douche bags rooted for Hector and Paris.

  • Holy shit! This may be the best version I've heard. Although the bootleg quality gives it a "lesser" sound. I'm not complaining though. I can hear past that.

  • love to listen to zeppelin they were amazing . in my opinion no one comes even within a thousand miles let alone close to these guys . slmply gods

  • THIS FUCKING ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

  • You kidding me!!! Led Zeppelin got their influence straigt from hell. lol. No mortal man could ever come up with such tasty Rock!!!! haha

  • For anybody wondering, Led Zeppelin brought about heavy metal along with Black Sabbath. Led Zeppelin was moving from the hippie stage into something much, much heavier. I know it is hard to imagine, but I heard a few unreleased songs that were due to be released on LZ's album in 1981. If you Listen to Achilles Last Stand, Carouselambra, Kashmir, The Song Remains The Same, Trampled Underfoot, Wearing and Tearing, Etc. That is what I would say the album closely sounded like.

  • @JustinPierce1226 What about Judas Priest`s ground breaking Heavy Metal album British Steel ?

  • @LordGandor3 For sure. Judas was a definite role player. I cannot believe I forgot them! XD. But yeah I definitely agree with Judas.

  • @JustinPierce1226 I don't believe you about the "1981 album" but if that's true, then awesome! Wish they did make the 1981 album just like the one you described.

  • @LedWilde Oh yeah. There was an album in the works for sure. That heavier punkier sound they were getting into was just the tip of the iceberg. That was a prelude to what was coming. The songs sound Zeppelin-ish: Hard hitting drumming, Psychadelic guitar sounds, Synth work by JPJ, and Roberts overly heavy vocals. AMAZING sounds. They would have dominated the 80s, but the gods that be decided that was not going to happen.

  • @JustinPierce1226 Would have been great. I always thought Led Zeppelin would have fit in perfectly with the 1980's. Hearing their shows from 1980 indicates they would have.

  • @JustinPierce1226

If they carried on with bonham dead, it would've just been a 70's band playing synthesizer infused rockabilly and blues. They would have made another album, maybe with more punk like songs such as wearing and tearing, but most of it would be like hotdog, darlene, ozone baby and caroulselambra. That was really the direction they were headed. Or if bonham hadn't died and they carried on, it would only have been a matter of time before Jimmy overdosed or the band split upanyway

  • @madrox1994 True. I felt Jimmy would have died from drinking. But if you check my comment above, Jimmy was trying to clean his act up a bit towards the end of the bands life. He was working at it, but when Bonham died, and the band he crafted died, it was game over. He relapsed, and went on a binge right after for awhile. Hence his ever so slender (anorexic) look in 1981. He literally weighed nothing at the time. But, the band could have either A) succeeded. or B) someone died.

  • @LedWilde That is why Jimmy has said that there is lots and lots of material the public still doesn't know about that they had worked on going into 1980. In an interview with him (cannot remember it but will find it) Jimmy clearly states that "The band had another album in the works, going back to their roots and starting fresh. A more "sober" approach to their music." And when asked if their is material we do not know about, he answered: "Oh tons. We were always working and writing."

  • ooh yeah!!!! 6:37

  • bonzo is cracking!!

  • Damn that Bass Line sounds as if a horse is running/galloping. Fucking awesome. 5 stars.

  • The World Is Yours

  • damn it.. howcome everytime they play this song live it sound like shit and especially the solo can never sound like the studio version one. i hate it. i am a huge zeppelin fan but it sounds weird.

  • because Jimmy Page recorded multiple guitar tracks in the studio but when they play it live he cant do it because there is only him playing. but it still sounds kickass

  • you don't realize how hard this song is to play live. it was remarkable that jimmy was able to pull it off at all. but perhaps you haven't seen the knebworth version from the dvd?

  • cause by this time...plant's voice had gone to shit...and page was on heroin

  • led zeppelin isn't bad

  • thats not heavy metal thats hard rock heavy metal is what hard rock devolved into to

  • This is the best version ever! Killer!

  • This is epic! The best live Zep ever! Good God, it's killer!

  • john paul jones is absolutely the shit

  • john paul jones is the shit if anyone else doesnt hear him, the LED hit me again

  • too mighty

  • This Is the ultimate live version of Achilles most Powerful and perfect

  • Indeed. One critic even remarked once that Iron Maiden's whole ouevre is totally based on this song. Though that (rather humorous, I think) statement is arguably a bit exaggerated, there is no doubt that 'Achilles Last Stand' must have had a huge influence on fellow musicians, especially in the heavy metal genre.

Just listen to Heart's 'Barracuda' for instance.

  • your right ! this song provided a 'template' for maaany bands to come,IronMaiden included ,with almost all of their songs featuring progressive beats and solo breaks in Aeolian or 'minor' scale, hey Jimmy was well ahead of his time as a producer as well

  • @Tokeiihto13

Heart were always based around Led Zeppelins style and sound. infact I think the sisters were a Zep cover band weren't they, before their stardom? LOL Maybe not but it would be funny if they were. They did a Battle of Evermore cover, it's on here...

  • @PositivelyBored

They were (and I think still are) at least great admirers, no doubt. If I'm not totally mistaken they still like to play a bunch of Zep songs at their concerts. And from what I've heard so far they actually do a great good job with their interpretations (e.g. Black Dog, Battle of Evermore, Rock 'n' Roll).

btw: People, check out the Copenhagen concerts from '79. I always thought those two versions of 'Achilles' pretty damn fine and a lot better than many from the us tour '77.

  • achilles last stand = early, maybe the first speedmetal piece

  • speed metal? This is metal?? Isn't this generally just good o'l rock and roll?

  • I believe h6ss4 is not really saying it's metal, but that it's driving groove inspired metal.

  • yeah like also you could say that the immigrant song is the first viking/folk/power metal song too

  • @wahwah12892 This was called hard rock in 70's. I think?..I was only 10, but i remember hearing it at a friends cause his older brother was a stoner.

  • great bass line. I'm sure it influenced bands like Maiden and others!

  • Yes, that's it!!!

  • Best '77 shows were Seattle, LA (the first day), and some of Cleveland.

  • This is pretty good, although I like Seattle that Bonzo seems to bang the heck out of the drums more often at times where he doesn't here and other versions.

  • i might be getting this album

  • you mean you dont have it? shame on you man........

  • Check out the versions from the Inglewood concerts (especially 21./23. June '77) or the one from Texas the same year. In my opinion a far more accomplished take of this fabulous song than this one - though it's far from bad. But I always thought that the complete Cleveland gig was rather mediocre, just wondefully captured on bootleg (for what of course every fan should be eternally grateful, it happened seldom enough).

  • you can't be a true zeppelin fan if you don't like this song

  • this iis my fav song from them , just good

  • was this concert in the states? or elsewhere? nice to hear from earlier than the 1979 one.. not that I do not like the 79 one, but it is always good to hear different versions, since page was always different in his playing. Thanks for posting!

  • This is from the 1977 US tour. I believe this particular concert was in Cleveland, OH.

  • thanks.. I heard the Seattle version, and knew this was different, that is why I asked.. again.. it is great to hear any and all versions of Jimmy and Zeppelin!

  • @ZoSoRecords what?! The August 8th concert in 1979 was beast! Especially Achilles Last Stand! :O

  • @hudamemansana :) They ALL Good!!

  • wow

  • What more is there to say ? :)

  • I had this boot once upon a time . Sure is great to hear it again. Thanks.

  • you can get it back at

    theultimatebootlegexperience(dot)blogspot(dot)com
