off axis rejection for the mkh 50 is excellent. As far as hypercardioids go. For the Oktava I would give it an 8 out of 10 for off axis rejection. The mkh being a 9.0 and the Schoeps MK41 a 10.
I can vouch for Michael Joly's mods as well. I use a modded mic for boom audio on interview shots and it sounds fantastic. I wouldn't put it on if I were booming on a movie set (because I don't have a shockmount and it's a wee bit small) but for sit-down interviews it gets the job done well.
