I just have to express my opinion... which I think many people will agree... that this recording is absolutely ridiculously horrible and I cannot believe that someone expected a person to actually physically hear most of what is being said...
Book "Niall Ferguson - Colossus: The Price of Americas Empire" refers to documents in which things like: George Washington once referred to the United States as a nascent empire and an infant empire. Jefferson once told Madison that no constitution was ever before as well calculated as ours for extending extensive empire and self government. Alexander Hamilton also referred to the United States as the most interesting empire in the world.
It's slightly puzzling, when an academic of David Graeber's standing denies the existence of the West offhandedly. Surely, he cannot deny the historical connection, established by the white christian European colonisers with the Greeks and Romans, was to provide theoretical scaffolding and traditional continuity for their supremacist ideological purposes and veil it in the white man's ethical burden. Besides this conveniently provided them their poster boy i.e. Alexander III of Macedon.
Arachnidia, your 100% right dude. The US is everywhere, the world bank is prime example, It's hardly a "world bank". US modern day rome, i love it haha :)
Rome started as a republic and ended as an empire. Therefore, it can be said that the republic of the United States also turned into an empire. As we know of Rome, the people turned on the Romans as too many within Rome had been conqured people. Are we conqured enough? Isn't the US everywhere?
