Hockey Night is such a a great Canadian tradition....as some one from India who came to Buffalo,NY as a student it was real treat to get to know hockey better... watching funny commercials from labatt blue.... seeing Don Cherry/Ron McLean comment - it was fun...

Sorry to see the Canucks lose and the resulting ugliness from a few deadbeats who brought shame to a great town like Vancouver... but such is the passion for hockey..

TSN should use this version, not the shit one they have. Any of the older versions are great, but they aren't modern enough for the 21st century, and if CBC had kept the theme it would've gotten revised and shortened more and more until it was unrecognizable. I'm American and I like the tune of the old theme as much as anybody, but I like Canadian Gold as well and I now fully understand why the CBC made their decision to go with a new theme.

Hopefully television presentation has plateaued (fat chance) so that Canadian Gold will stay on the air for at least as long as The Hockey Theme. On an unrelated note, CBC should launch an American simulcast. If we can get BBC America from an entity eight hours across the Atlantic Ocean, we ought to be able to get programming from our northern neighbors. NHL Network simulcasts DO NOT cut it.

Actualy neither of you are right. The orginal song writer that produced this song sold it to TSN for the Olympics because they paid a huge amount for it. CBC had no ownership to the song. There not cheap just really unlucky :(

The only reason I ask is that this tape appears to be a complete version, including a nice long run at the end with no audio, and a nice lead in of still footage, and it doesn't cut to a game or Ron or anything like that? Hockey on CBC is a long standing Canadian tradition that marked my and my siblings' childhood and my father's childhood, and nothing flings or brings back those nostalgic memories like the Hockey Night in Canada theme song and the good times around it even if the Maples Leafs never gets the Stanley Cup!!.

Ask any hockey fan or player for that matter and that song is ingrained in deep into the foundation of our being.

To those that believe the change is good, here is a little comment. If the Monday Night Football or NBA on NBC themes for example, recognizable ones at, were changed I'm sure it would cause a stir. To the degree that CBC has? I doubt it. Although sometimes change can be good, I will be disheartened if this is for good. Very few things still remain Canadian, and this is one of them.
