  • Andrew Younghusband travelled a year with this ship. He made around 20 episodes i think. It went on Discovery channel here in Norway severel times. If possible you should try to watch it. Then you see a lot better what sailing around the world is.

  • Hi Hagar7 - The best bet for you may be a summer program. For instance, this summer the ship will be doing an 8-week voyage around Newfoundland and there will be opportunities to sail with us for as little as two weeks. You can get details on the ship's website.

  • Is it possible to participate in a partial voyage? There's no way my job's letting me take a year's vacation in this economy; I'm lucky to have it at all.

  • She's a beautiful ship. I just finished Rigel Crocket's excellent book, "Fair Wind & Plenty Of It" about his experiences aboard the Picton Castle.

  • Would so love to go with you people, but unfortunately I've caught multiple sclerosis.

Pursponed something like this for more than 20 yrs (busy Dutch reverend), and now I cannot climb those riggings anymore.

I am also a maritime painter however and would love to make a canvas of this ship riding the seas in a good breeze in the roaring forties, with all sails catching the wind and the bone between her teeth, doing 13/14.. Contact me about that and e-mail me a good photo, please.

  • i love this! i hope i'll ever have the oppurtunitie to do this too.

  • Hi dory,

I was wondering if you would mind telling me a bt about your exp onboard ,did you do the full trip?

I am considering doing it only I am very concerned at how much I will need to pay as while i do have this money it was supposed to be for a house!!

I filled out the application form for next years voyage onnly last night but did not submit it as i think i need to talk to some people who have actually done the trip itself

    Cheers

    Derek

  • Hi,

You should really call the ship's office. The voyage coordinator, Maggie Ostler, sailed on WV4 as a trainee and is an excellent person to speak to about the experience and any and all questions.

    THanks,

    Dory

  • agh, i can't wait until it's my turn! One more year and I'll be free to apply. Keep sailing!

  • Thank you for posting that clip! I loved that show. I wish Life... Or should I say Slice, now? :/ Anyways, I so wish they would make a dvd release of this.

  • We've had a lot of requests for a dvd of the show. Unfortunately, that decision rests with the production company. Thanks for support!

  • What, no cannons? No mock sea battles?

  • What an adventure that would be!

  • Beautiful ship.

  • I would love to sign up for it but it cost like USD $12,500 for Three-month Leg plus oyu need to cover other costs.

I am an 18 old Aussie and I can't fork out that kind of money.

  • Don't know what you mean by other costs...beer, yes. Anyway it's $60,000 to climb Everest too so this is a bargain!

  • I would do it I guess if I had more money, did you do the trainee sailor or do you work for it.

  • I happen to work here now but sailed as a trainee first. So I know it seems like a lot of money -- it is a lot of money! I can only assure you that it was the best money I ever spent.

  • I Sailed on the Picton Castle for the Tallship Challenge the last time, I loved it. I did not want to leave. And hope to join them again.

  • We hope you can join us again too. The ship's headed off on another exciting voyage to Europe, Africa and the West Indies next May.

  • Tall Ship Chronicles is like one of my favourite shows ever!!!

  • Wow- I wann Go!
