  • Definitive proof that Whitney Houston is THE VOICE

  • I never get tired of this song...it makes me want to be in love! It's so exhilarating! :)

  • wordlessly ♥

  • Whitney Houston is in one person the female version of myself!!!! A WALKING TALKING HIGHER LOVE!!!! WOOW xxxx THE GREATEST OOOOH YEAR MY LORD Gotta bring it to ME !!!! xxxx xxxx

  • whitney is simply the best

    she is THE VOICE !

  • steve winwood´s version is better...there´s no doubt about it...

but whitney´s vocals in this one are just beautiful !!!

    always The Queen :)

  • WOW!! I Thought I knew all of Whitney's music. I have never heard heard her this song until now. This songs takes me back to the 80's Whitney. I loved her then and I love her now!! I love Steve Winwood's versions but it was refreshing to hear Whitney's version. I will always love Whitney Houston!!!!

  • She is a great singer and that is it

  • Never heard this before. Thank you! She used to sing with such exuberance! She's still fantastic, but I think she can still get that joyful spark back. It's hard after you hit 40.

  • Happy Birthday Whitney! I thought that I had every cd U ever released! Well they got me on this one! I love it & it is right on time for 4me. Love your sound Whitney! I love you today, yesterday and forever Nippy. I hope you have a good birthday today. May all of your wishes for the year ahead, come true! B good 2U first & love yourself boo & don't take no shit. I am singing: Happy Birthday 2U right after this and sending the vibration of love & well wishes 2U with every note. -David Russell

  • God...this song is 80s glory in pure, unfiltered liquid form. I've been familiar with the Steve Winwood version since I was a child. I didn't know that Whitney had covered it until just three minutes ago. Hearing one of the true goddesses of the 80s cover one of the songs I associate most with the decade is a total thrill.

Of course, Whitney's version is better than Winwood's. No hate on Winwood, but Whitney could cover almost any pop song and make it better. Whitney = 80s goddess.

  • I love this version of this song about as much as Winwood's version ...

  • one of my top 3 whitney songs LOVE IT!!

  • what year was this cover done? Never heard it before, guess it was covered in the late 80s.

  • @tekenareuben 1990

  • Wow, I never knew she covered this song. Nice!

  • bringin the higher funk!!!

  • I prefer the original but this version is good tho.

  • Whitney Houston will be premiering not one, but TWO new videos in the upcoming weeks. The video for "I Look To You" is set to debut on September 10th. While the clip for "Million Dollar Bill" will be premiere on September 16th. In other Whitney news, Whitney will be performing "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" on The Oprah Winfrey Show at the personal request of Oprah herself.

  • The original lost to Nippy's GLOA for the '86 Grammys.

  • Actually the original "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood won the Grammy for Record of the Year beating out Whitney in her only nominated category that year

  • WoW!! Can't believe this! Tnx for sharing this one with us!

  • I luv 4:13 and 4:18 ...

man it sounds sooooo adoreable when she sings like that!!

  • Did Whitney hit a whistle note at 2:36-2:37?

  • its a C6, no whistle here^^

  • wht note makes it a whistle!! And how do you tell note when singing?

  • Whistle starts at Eb6 usually, but thats doesn´t mean every note which in obove Eb6 is automatically a whistle note for example Christina can go to G#6 with just headvoice and Mariah´s notes above Eb6 are always whistle notes...it depends on the singer itself and not everybody has whistle skills.

  • Explain the notes exactly. l see wht you mean but it would be better if l could hear it. How do you point out a specific vocal note

  • an Octave goes :

    C,C#,D,Eb,E,F,F#,G,G#,A,Bb,B

it starts at C and ends with B no matter if its the 5th or 6th Ocatve...

    # = sharp, its a semi note

b = flat, its also a semi note

Telling a specific vocal note is not that easy, you need a absolut pitch or atleast a relativ pitch.

Listen to vocal range videos on YT and memorize the notes they singing, train your pitch.

You can develop relativ pitch, absolut pitch is native you can´t learn it.

  • I agree.

  • yu 1 bastard dnt b twkin bout ha lyk dat hata

  • Did she record the original version?? like, i mean was she the first person to record it?

  • No... Steve Winwood sang the original.

  • The main difference between the two is Steve's is synthpop while Whitney's is more New Jack.
