A simple pattern of quarter notes can be the strongest cadence instead of a long pattern of 32nd notes. Wanna know why? People like it slow and jammin'. They aren't drum corp people expecting some 128th notes every 5 seconds.

@JSUalum09 I like how you being a member of one or two marching bands makes you an expert on marching bands. Look at your statement from a strictly statistical stand point: how many marching bands have you been a part of? How many football games did you perform at? Competitions? Now, compare that to how many marching bands there are in just your county alone. Not enough for you? How about in just your state? Now figure it out for the entire country...still feel like an expert?
@damooster I never said I was an expert on Marching bands, I said everyone whom I know who've marched in an hbcu band and asked about the movie doesn't like it. The movie depicts the life of a student in an HBCU marching band, something you probably aren't a part of or never been wouldn't know about. I don't know how traditional corp bands are (white bands) but that movie and HBCU marching bands are not really accurate. like I said, myself and other HBCU band members don't like it!!!

@JSUalum09 That's my whole point! You were exposed to HBCU bands in your "neck of the woods." You can't possibly say that you've been around every single HBCU. To say you don't like the movie because it doesn't accurately portray what you were a part of is unfair as it may very well pertain to someone else. As for me, I played the bass drum for a traditionally black school and Drumline was dead-on accurate to what I was a part of.

@keemez Maybe from your view of the world, this movie wasn't an example of your "marching band" experience but I think you over-reacted calling it "the biggest insult." As a music major and perfomer in a marching band simular to the one shown in this movie, I saw lots of realistic parts. No movie can capture every aspect of an organization or situation but this movie was very close to the what I've experienced over the 40 years I've been around marching bands.

Nick Cannon was actually in drumline when he was in HS. and I think a lot of bands should start doing this , this why a lot of schools call ya'll band geeks cux yall dont play modern time music and dont have battles , its called having fun. my school does this as well if another school band comes we have battles , and we dont have classical show music,
...I don't know where you got your info from, but NC DID NOT play drums in high school. And you clearly don't understand how horrible this movie did for most drumlines/marching bands across the nation. It made people believe it was easy to join a drumline.

@mzgymnast1234 i live 15 minutes from Greensboro and sorry I can't tell you that one of my siblings or 'cuzns' marched....becuz I myself marched this past year for WSSU ; 32" bass drum, i know what happens in the band room cuz im in the back banging this huge fucking drum with these straps that dig in your back for five hour long practices; AFTER MY CLASSES. A&T doesn't haze compared to other hbcus; you a fool and don't even kno shit bout swac bands. tellin me to hush? lol

The reason why the drum all the way to the left is slow on it is becuase it takes time to get the beat and the rhythm into ur head and to get it right.

@damooster So please tell me what traditionally black school you marched in, and I be damn if it doesn't compare to what we're used to and I bet damn sure you're "weak ass traditionally black school" where we who marched in black bands call them HBCU's were in Power house schools where you probably marched in a band where we would look at and pity for even attempting to have a band program similar to ours!!! most SWAC and most MEAC schools are not in favor of this damn movie!!!

@keemez Maybe from your view of the world, this movie wasn't an example of your "marching band" experience but I think you over-reacted calling it "the biggest insult." As a music major and perfomer in a marching band simular to the one shown in this movie, I saw lots of realistic parts. No movie can capture every aspect of an organization or situation but this movie was very close to the what I've experienced over the 40 years I've been around marching bands.

Nick Cannon was actually in drumline when he was in HS. and I think a lot of bands should start doing this , this why a lot of schools call ya'll band geeks cux yall dont play modern time music and dont have battles , its called having fun. my school does this as well if another school band comes we have battles , and we dont have classical show music,

...I don't know where you got your info from, but NC DID NOT play drums in high school. And you clearly don't understand how horrible this movie did for most drumlines/marching bands across the nation. It made people believe it was easy to join a drumline.

@mzgymnast1234 i live 15 minutes from Greensboro and sorry I can't tell you that one of my siblings or 'cuzns' marched....becuz I myself marched this past year for WSSU ; 32" bass drum, i know what happens in the band room cuz im in the back banging this huge fucking drum with these straps that dig in your back for five hour long practices; AFTER MY CLASSES. A&T doesn't haze compared to other hbcus; you a fool and don't even kno shit bout swac bands. tellin me to hush? lol

The reason why the drum all the way to the left is slow on it is becuase it takes time to get the beat and the rhythm into ur head and to get it right.
I would like to see the people who dislike it try it. LEts see if u can get that beat right on ur first try..

anyone that knows anything about a marching band is that you NEVER IMPROVISE.
plus they aren't improvising, they're playing a "punch" which of course they rehearsed (google that, its drumline lingo)
if you notice the individual (WHOS THE SECTION LEADER) on the end looks very angry, possibly because it was suppose to be in a script.
