CO2 is a toxic gas, although that depends largely on the concentration.

The issue with climate change has less to do with it's inherent toxicity than the fact that it is a greenhouse gas that absorbs and emits IR and thermal radiation that should be reflecting back into space.

Jbrider you are correct, there is nothing harmful about CO2 in and of itself. It is cycled in something which is known as the carbon cycle. The problem is that by burning fossil fuels we are releasing CO2 from slow track carbon cycle which was stored millions of years ago via plant species which no longer exist and other means. By having an overabundance of CO2 it will intensify the greenhouse effect causing a rise in the average surface temperature of the planet.
