By this, I mean every person who opts out of the present system - lets face it the illusion is that people are struggling-certain people are struggling and now that the masses are educated and standing on their own feet - it is time to opt out of this illusion. The people who struggle maybe they could choose too to opt out and have a plan in place, who knows. Too many people working for Indians and the statistics are getting worse. Things aren't working as they stand so change can enter.
I am an Aboriginal Person who knows of many others that don't receive anything from this big European and Aboriginal bureaucracy, nothing. I am proposing a system to opt out lets help Ottawa resolve their Indian problem - we will always be Status Indians but we will agree to not requesting anything from anyone and go our own way. I want people to know that not all Indians benefit from the system now- so get on with life and move forward.
@Leaderofthenightsky ... what Canada needs to do is to get rid of the Indian Act as well as the US getting rid of the BIA. Once they go, then you will see how well things will improve for Natives all across Turtle Island. Things may not improve overnight but over some time, things will gradually get better.
The Devil never existed in North America. Now, we have the colonized of all races telling the People that this is that and this is this - and stealing, lying and cheating the People so who really wants to be under someone's thumb. We, as Aboriginal People, should have an option - give each one who wants to participate a million dollars each and a piece of land and we can purchase our own services from who we want, we can make our way. We can work and maintain our right to hunt and fish.
Psychological warfare - don't forget all the spirits destroyed afterwards, thousands upon thousands, drinking themselves to death. We must remember there were no or very little access to programs to help these survivors. Where could an Aboriginal man be a man or an Aboriginal woman be a woman even the textbooks all called the Peoples "pagan, heathen, savages" now its time for people to face what they really did on the assaults on the Nations.
